Thanks to all who attended our talk at #io13 last week. +Brad Abrams and I had a great time showing off the new Mobile Backend Starter project. The video is now up for everyone to enjoy watching us juggle 2 laptops, 2 phones, and network connectivity to build a cloud-connected Android app. #androiddev #googlecloudplatform #googlecloudmessaging #mobilebackendstarter

Well, that was fun! +Brad Abrams and I gave a talk on writing a cloud backend for your Android app at #io13 today. To demonstrate the new Mobile Backend Starter project, we built Geek Serendipity, which lets you see where geeks with similar interests are hanging out. Within minutes after the talk, geeks using the app popped up all over the US and a few in Europe staying up late to watch the live stream. The app shows the 50 most recent geek locations anywhere in the world. There seems to be something going on in San Francisco...
PS The source code and video are coming. You can get the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.turbomanage.sample.geekwatch

#AndroidDev #CloudDev Looking for an easy and extensible cloud back end for your Android application? At Google I/O, +Brad Abrams and I will be presenting the new Mobile Backend Starter project and building an app before your eyes. MBS includes a complete App Engine project (no coding required) with CRUD services and a reusable framework for sending data to and from the cloud, including GCM for server push. MBS ties all of these together with a simple management console and a complete Android starter project. It's not the only way to write Android + Cloud apps, but certainly one of the easiest.

We're having a G+ hangout on Wed. Feb. 20th, at 4pm US/Pacific, with more on Google Cloud Endpoints.
Following up the Feb. 13th GDL hangout (https://developers.google.com/live/shows/76184973/), in this hangout we'll showcase the Cloud Endpoints Proto Datastore library (http://endpoints-proto-datastore.appspot.com/), which allows ProtoRPC message classes to be directly tied to the models used to persist objects. In addition, rather than interacting with ProtoRPC messages in our API methods, we'll show how to directly interact with the entities that live in the datastore.
Submit your questions here: http://goo.gl/FLw0j .
When the hangout starts, or if you missed it live, you can watch it here: https://developers.google.com/live/shows/150149336/ .
If you're a Google+ user, you can RSVP to the event here:
