I Just finished and reviewed Michelle Gagnon's new YA thriller Don't Turn Around. It comes out next month and I highly recommend it. It's the first in a trilogy and from the first one, I can tell this one is going to be non-stop beginning to end.

I would take less money for a few more hours off a week so that someone else could also work. I know some can't do this, but it's just me a my husband, so families like ours could do this and just live a little tighter - like we already have to anyways. This definitely isn't a solution in itself, but it could be one of many things to help.

Dear Google Plus Friends: I know that we all enjoy free things. Free software, and free e-books, and free videos and entertainment. However, to get the world-economy turned around, free is not going to help anyone. Now, if we all start supporting local entrepreneurs and patronizing their businesses, then money and capital and wealth will circulate, and this is what revives economies. So, rather than downloading a free e-book from some wealthy corporation, try downloading the $5 e-book from your local entrepreneur who knows just as much if not more than the corporate beaurocrat who wrote the freebie. This is how we get change and wealth back into the hands of the people - by supporting local entrepreneurship.

Hello Social Media peeps I am going to be helping out the Google Community Managers - specifically the G+ and G+ business page team - Natalie Villalobos, Toby Stein, Louis Gray and others with a weekly hangout on air series with business owners. I will be hosting a few of them myself. We're looking to lay out a schedule of topics (mostly aime at google products of course lol) but also branching out to general topics like marketing and online security. Why are scientists like me getting so worked up over Elsevier and other journal publishers? It must seem strange from the outside. This cartoon explains it very clearly. It's hilarious - but unfortunately, it's TRUE!!! This is why we need a revolution.

(True except for one small thing: in math and physics, Elsevier does let us put our papers on our websites and free electronic archives... though not the final version, only the near-final draft.)
