How To Track Image Search in Google Analytics

Apply a few simple Google Analytics filters to gain insight into how much traffic you’re getting through image search. This is increasingly important as the Internet becomes more visual and the user behavior of these visits differs in material ways from traditional search traffic.

A Custom Analytics Report To Identify Testing Opportunities

To get started with website testing and landing page optimization you need something to test. In the old days (2009) we would look for landing pages with a high bounce rate and test those pages.

But that's a very one-dimensional view of the world. External traffic sources land on different pages. And we need a better metric than just bounce rate. Let's also consider conversion rate to help us understand the impact of a landing page. We need a multi-dimension, multi-metric approach.

I created a custom +Google Analytics report that shows landing page, conversion rate and, if you're an ecommerce site, transactions and revenue.

+Bill Slawski has posted, Google's Explores a User Activity Media Feed http://goo.gl/vAHRw . Screen shot diagrams in the patent application show some indication of how Google would implement tracking media and user's [and follower's] activity in social media profile streams / timelines.

While I would agree with Bill, it's unlikely I would want to receive a notification such as an email for every interaction, I would welcome an expansion in Google Analytics reporting to include all the captured information.

Overcoming a Ghost Town Feel?

Do you want to know when people you're connected to watch a video, or download an app, or play a song? Are you interested in finding out what percentage of musical tastes you share with someone else?

A patent filing from Google describes a User Activity feed that makes me think of Facebook. Honestly, it's something that I don't want, and would hope I could opt out of if offered.

Would it be something you would use?

Is AuthorRank Live?

There is not what I would call a "definitive" answer in the response from Googles John Mueller.
0:58 - 2:44

Question:
Is AuthorRank as it is publicly termed live and effecting the Search Results?

Response:
M: AuthorRank is really popular, I think Matt mentioned it
JM: OK
M: At SMX this week talking to Danny Sullivan
JM: I think this is something we are still mostly working on, so it's not something that you really need to worry about at the moment.
It's probably giving to understand how Authorship works and ot make sure you have your site setup for that, to kind of get prepared for all of that
, but er at the moment it's not something critical you guys have to worry about.
M: It's just good for your brand for people to see your face in the search results.  So, if you want tod... more »

Website Copywriting – 4 Common Sources of Friction and How to Overcome Them

4 years of research and over 250 split A/B tests have taught me a lot about website copywriting. One of the most important lessons is that friction kills conversion. The good news is that reducing friction is one of the most effective ways of increasing conversion. The bad news is that it can be difficult to spot sources of friction, if you don’t know what to look for.

In this article I’ll walk you through the four most common sources of friction related to website copy, and give you concrete tips for how to overcome them.
