(Sat04) I like this idea...stem-supported vase-less vases set on a shallow tray, saucer or bowl for watering.

However, i think i can make my own top guide/brace and end up with a result more attractive than a ring little plastic funnels.

Here's the thing. A law that has to be broken in order to save the life of a child--to prevent him from being torn apart by vicious dogs--is very likely an evil law. And a "justice" system that punishes a man (even if "only" by fining him) for being a lifesaving hero--is institutionalized evil. Why, as a (theoretically) free citizen, does any American tolerate this?

The Good

* If it weren't for the rendering issues, the new font is pretty and reasonably easy on the eyes (though necessary to zoom in for some people who had no problem previously; perhaps the default point-size is a hair too small).

* The embedded scrollbars on posts do help to constrain the tall nature of long comment threads. They don't work in all contexts (see The Ugly), but in the Home... more »

I understand that staff who are ignorant and have no desire to learn equal job security for me, but they sure do not provide ANY job satisfaction.

receiving little gifts like these (from a client, not a staff) are what keeps me going!

(Wed01) this is the house of a friend of mine (and their neighbors)

the hillside behind their houses slid away despite 2 retaining walls.

the results are:

     -emergency evacuation from the houses (ie: police at the door telling you that you have 30 minutes to grab your stuff and they will be escorting you away)

     -houses condemned as unsafe to enter (let alone live in)

     -families living with friends/in hotels/looking for rentals/trying to figure out how to pay for it all

     -none of the homeowners insurance policies cover this as it is considered an 'act of God'

     -mortgage payment still expected by the bank (in fairness, the bank did offer the homeowners 90 days deferments, not much but at least it is something)

     -foundations of the houses are cracked/skewed/shifted and nolonger safe to sup... more »

(Tue05) the same levee as in the previous post, but taken today.  Facing Northwest and standing to the east of where i took the other picture.

the north side of the levee was 'raised' over the weekend. you can kind of see the fresh sand.

there is no significant worry of the levee flooding unexpectedly, in fact, the city is pumping water our of low lying streets/storm drains over and into the levee.

 it is an impressive amount of water.
