+Shari Seibold and I checked out where we needed to enter the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot in San Diego, California for a boot camp graduation. We found we could take a trolley to the Washington Street station and walk in. If we had driven, we probably would have never noticed this skateboard park tucked under I-5.

La Jolla Afternoon
A lazy Saturday afternoon in La Jolla, California. +Shari Seibold and I took public transportation, the bus, from San Diego's Old Town station to the La Jolla area and then walked around a bit before grabbing another bus heading north. It couldn't have been any more than the low 70's in La Jolla, but, walking up and down the hills put a bit of a sweaty sheen on us; made us puff a little also.

Spotted
This spotted leopard was amazingly camoflauged as a beetle. I had to look several times to make sure I was seeing what I thought I saw. Captured on one of the Seibold Family camping trips to the Morro Bay State Park campground in 2007.

Remember When?
Actually, I remember one of the first McDonalds opening in Sacramento, California some time in the late 1950's. Maybe 1956-1959 period. I believe Hamburgers were 25 cents and fries were a dime. It was a once in a while treat for our family.
This sign was part of the decor in a Juicy Burger in Bakersfield, California. First time I've ever been there.

Out and About

We don't always have to drive to Los Angeles to join in with the +Drink and Click™ LA group to get our ya-ya's off. This was a couple of weeks ago at the Pyrenees Bar in Bakersfield, California to listen to some friends playing in English Revolver. If you enjoy rocking blues, this is the band and the Pyrenees is the place.

Watcher
Kutsavi, or alkali fly pupae, were a significant source of food for the native people of the Mono Basin. Each summer the Kutzadika'a people would harvest the alkali fly pupae from the shallow waters of Mono Lake. The pupae are rich in fat and protein necessary for the metamorphoses of the adult fly. High in calories, kutsavi was an excellent source of food that could be stored easily.
I didn't see any alkali fly pupae on this trip. Of course, +Shari Seibold and I weren't really looking either.

Gov't Mule performs at the Fox Theater in Bakersfield, California. This was in 2009 and a wonderful treat for all of the Mule fans from Bakersfield. Most of the time we are running around to other venues in California to catch the West Coast tour. This time, it was in our backyard.

Passing Through
For several years, +Shari Seibold and I kept a 20 foot section of chain link fence covered in Passion Vine. Gulf Fritillary butterflies made our backyard a stopping place. They loved the Passion Vine, but, we also had a large area of wildflowers growing to help attract critters.
