Get the young into debt while in education, practically ignore their plight throughout the bad times and make them pay for it for the rest of their working lives?! You gotta be kidding me!
"...Lifting it would mean a rate of 3.6%, in line with RPI in March 2012. One indicative calculation suggests that an employee on £25,000 a year, with £25,000 of undergraduate loans taken out before 2012, could work until retirement without ever paying off their debt if the interest rate cap were removed."

Sony, you clever boy!
"We're just trying to have fun, that's the thing," Boyes added. "And we're all gamers, and the people that we work with are gamers, and they care, and it comes through. And it's just genuine."

Not impressed with the case styling, plus points for stock Android (& market), a very decent controller, nVidia Tegra 4 and SHIELD support. If they can keep it around the $99 price tag and nail the GUI it's a winner in my books!

That's an interesting heatsink... and serviced by only one fan. I sure hope this thing has dust filters!

"I want to see The Doctor. I want to be taken by surprise. I want to squint at a photo of the person online and go “but how can that be The Doctor?”. Then I want to be amazingly, delightedly, completely proven wrong, and, six episodes in, I want to wonder how I could have been so blind. Because this is the Doctor. Of course it is."

The 14" Razer Blade laptop is almost perfect, if it delivers what it says it does. The only other complaints so far is the screen and price. It's early days though and I'm hoping for something better to come along.
"The era of performance thin and lights seems to have mostly ended at the hands of the ultrabook, and there aren’t too many performance ultrabooks out there. So, as to me at least, this Blade is an incredibly exciting system simply for the amount of power it harnesses in a system of this size."

I'm very horrified and deeply saddened to hear what he's gone through in the very first few hours of his life. I sincerely hope life has better to offer him. From Sky News, which also has photos of the baby being properly cared for:
"A newborn baby boy lodged in a sewage pipe directly beneath a toilet has been rescued by firefighters in eastern China.
The mother, who had hidden her pregnancy, telephoned her landlord, claiming she heard "weird noises" in the pipe, and the proprietor called police after spotting the infant.
They spent nearly an hour taking the tube apart piece by piece with pliers and saws and finally recovered the 5lb (2.3kg) boy, whose placenta was still attached.

Happy #TowelDay!!
"What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with."

This guy made a custom ring that lights up when it's close to a wireless power source. From purely a maker's point of view, this is awesome!
"The final idea was to embed a LED and copper coil assembly inside the titanium ring, illuminating it from under the stones when it was in close proximity to an induced alternating magnetic field"

78 menu options?! :o
"Reporting a water leak to Lloyds TSB's home insurance department requires dialling a total of seven numbers, one at each stage of the call (1, 3, 2, 1, 1, 5, 4), and it takes more than four minutes to navigate the 78 menu options, according to the website."

Looking forward to this. In the meantime, here's a bit from the first book that cracked me up:
"Well, Joshua, he had them by the shorts. Reincarnation is still a cornerstone of world faith... To a discarnate soul, twenty thousand teraflops-worth of technological wizardry on a gel substrate apparently looks identical to a few pounds of soggy brain tissue."

Companies like Amazon and Starbucks just take advantage of tax loopholes. It's not right, but it's legal. They'll get away with it anyway. Our governments really need to get their acts together. Don't hate the player, hate the system.

Sounds impressive but when will they be ready?
"The speed tests are also not quite fair, because generic computers will always perform less well than a device dedicated to solving a specific problem, says McGeoch. "A next step would be to build a conventional processor optimised for this task, for a fairer comparison," says O'Brien."

What with all the chatter about the 3.9 kernel and a poorly 11 month old sitting on my knee watching nursery rhymes on youtube, decided to compile and install it... Yeah, I was a bit bored.

My buddy +Kim Beasley shared this on Facebook, and it is waaay too hilarious to not share with you all. I don't know how court reporters manage to maintain their bearing when things like this are happening in the courtroom, but there's no way I could do it.
----------------------------------------------
HOW DO COURT RECORDERS KEEP STRAIGHT FACES????
These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while the exchanges were taking place.
ATTORNEY: What was the first thing your husband said to you that morning?
WITNESS: He said, 'Where am I, Cathy?'
ATTORNEY: And why did that upset you?
WITNESS: My name is Susan!

"...Go ahead and make something for the elites. Not the elites of class or wealth, but the elites of curiosity, passion and taste. Every great thing ever created was created by and for this group.
There's a surprisingly large amount of room at the this end of the market--among those that care enough about what they do to say no, and better yet, to teach the market why they're right.
They earn their niche at the top of the market by leading, not pandering."

If he says it's a sport...
Q: You are a national wushu champion, so what is your view on virtual gaming being coined as a sport as well?
A: If poker card games and chess both have the players sitting down and are considered sports, why not virtual gaming as well? There are 2 kinds of sports, 1 physical and 1 mental. There is no good reason to debunk virtual gaming as a sport, and I believe the participants of such virtual PvP events have the same mentality as physical athletes.

Be careful to double check before flashing!
"Recently, news went around the internet that the new darling of the mobile world, the Samsung Galaxy S 4, had been rooted prior to its release. Generally that is great news, but in this case the person who did the “rooting” didn’t have the device to test the process. In many cases, like previous versions of the Galaxy series, that is OK because the way to root Samsung devices has been the same via repacking Samsung’s firmware package with su and then flashing via ODIN. While that old way worked, it doesn’t work on the new S4 as XDA Recognized Developer Odia proved in a thread similar to the original “root” thread"
