Jardin du Luxembourg is a great spot to sit back and relax for a while. For #streettogs too, after you take a lot of pictures!

Paris is such a romantic city, yet even with the Eiffel tower in full sight, this couple wasn't holding hands.

A two-snap series from Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris today. Anyone who's visited the park must have seen the pond with the little wooden sailboats. It's very entertaining to see how kids play with the boats and try to launch them all the way to the other side.

Regret.
Quite a sad title for a post that includes a picture of my favorite (and very funny) photographer Elliott Erwitt, right? So why the title?
I took this picture in February 2011, when I attended a Q&A session with the legendary Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt in London. I was already a big admirer of his work, but after this entertaining night my appreciation only grew, both for his photographs and the man himself). At the end of the session, the guests (it was a small theater, so there weren't too many) had the opportunity to get a book signed, or just say hello to Elliott Erwitt. There was, obviously, a long line, I hadn't brought any of my books because I had to travel from Holland, and I did not want to keep my friend (who was with me but not into photography as much) waiting, so... I did not get in line to shake hands with Elliott. That's probably the only... more »

Thanks to +Leica Camera I got to attend a photography auction at Christie's in London last week. All proceeds went to the Positive View Foundation, which is a really good cause. More info about the foundation here: http://positiveviewfoundation.org.uk/

Tomorrow I am off to London again, for a two-day trip. Attending a photography auction at Christie's thanks to +Leica Camera and the Positive View Foundation, and of course I will be doing some more sightseeing.
Here is my favorite year of London pictures (I went there three times already). Hope I manage to take some more nice snaps this week!

This picture from a 1920s-style party is still one of my all time favorites. Is it just the memories of the party (was one of the best nights of my life) or is the picture also good without the knowing the story behind it? Please tell me what you think.

Just learned that I still have some pictures from London left to upload, so before I share my next shot from Paris, here's a pirate (seriously, that's what he looks like) from the East of London. Too long ago to remember the street I took this in, does anyone recognize it?

These elephants are a bit of a rage here in Holland, and everyone visiting the Rotterdam Zoo seems to be buying one (or a couple). This kid already lost interest while his mother was paying.

It looks impressive from the outside, but it is the interior of the National Opera of France that is truly awe-inspiring. They really had too much money when they built this...

I love anything vintage, so to see three classically dressed kids come running down the street jumping rope was a dream come true. Also a good reminder of how ugly many of today's cars are.

In just two hours I will be off to Paris! Have not visited the city before, despite the fact that it is only a (rather pricy) 2.5 hour train ride away.
Wish me good luck with picture taking and the weather. I will start posting Paris pictures when I return early next week.

My grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last Tuesday. This picture shows my father giving a speech, and my grandparents at the table. Grandma suffers from dementia, which may be why she has not turned around to listen. As a photographer, I can only appreciate her position: it brings across an extra element to the story.

Win a copy of Joe McNally's "The moment it clicks".
This goes out to all photographers on Google+.
On the forum of www.cameralabs.com I help organize a monthly photo competition. Since this month I got to choose the theme, and since it is my birthday this month as well, I am offering to send the winner of the March competition a prize. If we get a minimum of 20 entries, the winner (as chosen by the forum members) gets a copy of Joe McNally's "The moment it clicks". Free shipping too!
The theme is "Growing up". The picture below is my entry (which will be excluded from the poll, of course).

Wonder why this man was carrying his suitcase over his head. The wheels seemed to be in order, and I know that whenever I use a suitcase with wheels, I roll it all the time, even down a flight of stairs sometimes.

Here is another short set of images for you, taken last year in Ghent, Belgium. The three pictures show a woman in an electric wheelchair being stopped, arrested, and her wheelchair being loaded into a van for transportation to the police station.
There's one thing I learned from this particular event. If you see something interesting happening that might work as a set of images, stay with it for a while.
I walked away after taking the second image, not knowing the police were going to arrest the lady and take her wheelchair. However, when I came back, I saw that was exactly what they were doing and took the shot of the empty wheelchair in the van a tad to late. A snap of the police loading the chair into the vehicle would have been more interesting.

Taking inspiration from Elliott Erwitt once again, I have just created an album titled "Museum watching". Though I don't always enter museums when I am visiting a city, the times I do I love taking pictures inside. This picture is from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, taken last year. There is a big collection of Rembrandt paintings at the museum, one of which is being admired by an Italian couple in the picture below.
And be sure to check out my inspiration for starting this album, Elliott Erwitt's book Museum Watching:

Thought I would share with you my story of visiting the Leica headquarters in Solms, Germany.
In December 2011 I visited +Leica Camera to purchase my M9-P, 50mm Summilux, and various accessories, and it was a wonderful and memorable experience. To anyone living a reasonable drive away from Solms: if you're planning to buy a new camera/lens, do consider visiting the factory, it's fascinating!
One tip: avoid the days around the holidays, you'll see why in my article.

Dear members,
Having joined this Leica community quite a while ago, I thought I should introduce myself by now. My name is Bjorn van Sinttruije, I live in the Netherlands, and I am a student at the Rotterdam School of Management Erasmus University. Though that part of my life usually takes up way too much time, I try to go out occasionally to take pictures on the street.
Black and white street photography, or documentary photography in a broader sense, is my true passion, and whenever I have to head out I'll have a camera with me. I have shot with a Leica D-Lux 5, which I won in +Leica Camera 's Facebook competition, for several years. Since December 2011, I have had the pleasure and privilege of shooting with an M9-P and 50mm Summilux. The perfect instrument for pure creative expression.
Though I continuously try to develop my own style in photography, I take ... more »

Though it's not always easy, the evening is certainly my favorite time of day to be out taking street pictures. The sun during the day often gets too bright. Overcast skies aren't usually that interesting. Only when the sky goes dark blue and street lights turn on, can you play with light and explore its potential.
Looking to my left, towards the wall where I hung up some prints), some of my favorite pictures were taken in the evening. This might just be one of those. Titled "Evening shopping", it was all about those two female silhouettes and the shopping bags they held. Street light ads a touch of romance to this wonderful part of Berlin.
Please browse through the rest of my Berlin album, I just added a couple more pictures: http://bit.ly/13jHlAY
Comments and +1's are highly appreciated! Shares even more! Haha!

The first of probably only a handful of upload from my five day vacation to Berlin a couple weeks ago. It was warmer than I had planned for, so most of the time I did not feel like taking photographs. There seem to be some decent ones among those I took though, so be sure to expect more soon!

Every couple of months, I get some wild idea to put together an eBook with some photographs, and the motivation for each of those quickly faded away because the books lacked a theme for which I have some material already. The thought I'd have to start from scratch makes it too overwhelming for a first book I suppose.
This next book might just happen though: The bigger picture. Street photography is very diverse and close-up action shots of great characters abound thanks to photogs such as +Eric Kim . As an introverted shooter, I take my snaps from a few steps back, and I want to share this approach with the masses of people that are drawn to street photography today. I'll have to see how much material I can gather and create over the next month, but I'd like to have a free eBook out by the end of the year. I'll keep you all posted!

Long overdue update
It's been too long a while since I posted here on Google+, but I've had a good reason. Just wrapped up my BSc in International Business Administration, and I graduated without any retakes for the year (such a relief). The past few months were very busy with studying and a bachelor thesis, and so I'm glad I now have some time off to get back to photography!
My first step will be to finally process and share the remaining pictures from my February trip to London. I had a total of seven pictures in there earlier tonight, so I went ahead and added six more that I processed yesterday. Believe it or not, but five of these new pictures were nearly lost!! I wanted to transfer some files from one computer to another last week, and used an SD-card to do it. Quickly checked whether anything was on there before I copied the files and to my great surprise, I... more »
