any lawyers/law-minded folks out there? i am writing a screenplay, and i need to know the legal process for the following crimes in rural wyoming:

1. a police officer shoots a man he suspects of sleeping with his girlfriend, with the intent to kill him
2. the man retaliates by stabbing the police officer and beating him unconscious

these are both senior citizens. both survive, and have to be hospitalized for some time afterwards.

would they be arrested while in the hospital? would they have to serve time in jail? would they make bail easily? how long between arrest and trial? what would be the time served for both, if any?

all you screenwriters! dunno if you're familiar with scriptshadow or not, but a script from a relatively unknown writer is getting some big buzz right now - just goes to show that if you write a good enough screenplay, it should get noticed no matter who you are.
