Takahiro Yamamoto2,882,141We'll finish our 366 project in several days! Are you happy about it? Or are you sad? Anyway, who not celebrate the fact that we're completing our missions! You can share two shots this time. *Please remember just two images!* 1) Your best or most favorite shot you took in the fourth quarter of 2012 (October- December). Add #Bestof4Q12Creative366  in the comment section after you post the image! 2) Your best or most favorite shot you took for the project this year. Add #BestofCreative366Project  in the comment section after you post the image! If you think those two tags are too complicated, forget them and just two of your images! But please add your comment in the comment section after you have posted them. *And if you are the one who failed to complete the mission and are thinking you are going to do it again next year, you can add your fav one you took for the project here!* One last thing: I have made this event "public." I might have missed inviting those who are participating this +Creative 366 Project, so if you know anyone who isn't here but is doing his/her project, please invite them! The Best of Your 3662012-12-30 16:00:0088

Gailen Mapes74,676Hand Picked Photographers Circles - "Unknown or Other" Camera V-Z - 31 of 31Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 200 members. These circles are photographers that I admire. They have "more photos, less spam."  There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity). Be sure to get all of the circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to December 1st for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting November 7th.)  You can also use the #handpickedcircles hash tag and sort by "recent."I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:   https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles   #bestsharedcircle   #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle             #handpickedcirclesNote: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +Gailen Mapes .   Thanks for your cooperation.2014-12-31 11:40:31159001

Dieter Mueller (1967 - 2014)

There is bravery to saying the thing that others don’t want to hear or see. I was always pleased that he did. It is a form of honesty and diversity that Dieter Mueller brought to this online community.

His posts grabbed your attention. He posted irregularly but they came in a rapid torrent. Their content was extensive in scope. They might be his essays, links to introduce you to thinkers, philosophers, humanitarians like Norman Borlaugh, people who made an actual difference in this world. He posted on a wide-range of topics such as history, politics, art, music, movies, satirists, humour. A favourite among many were his witty, humourous, poignant captioning of photographs from a bygone era, when photographs told a story. The posts he shared was a fingerprint of the confluence of his thinking and his interests.

He had high hopes fors... more »

Francis Bacon (Irish, 1909–1992)
Triptych–August 1972, Tate Britain

Francis Bacon had a distinctive style that made him one of the most recognized figurative artists.

In 1964, George Dyer broke into Francis Bacon’s home, this is how they met. Bacon felt a deep connection to the young criminal Dyer’s vulnerability and began a relationship that came to an end in 1971. George Dyer committed suicide from an overdose of barbiturates. The loss of Dyer profoundly affected Bacon, haunted and preoccupied for the remaining years of his life, he never fully recovered.

Bacon painted portraits of Dyer obsessively, both during his life and after his death.___

The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, 1833

Paul Delaroche was born in Paris during the aftermath of the French Revolution. One of the darker episodes in English history, the painting shows the blindfolded sixteen year old Lady Jane Grey moments before she is to be executed.

Lady Jane Grey reigned as queen for nine days in 1553 until deposed by the supporters of Catholic Queen Mary. She was executed at Tower Hill.

Zhang Enli (1965)
Bucket 8, Bucket 3, Bucket 5, 2007
Tate Modern, London

Zhang Enli is a Chinese artist from the rural province of Jilin, in the North of China, now working in Shanghai. His work challenges the viewer to see ordinary everyday objects as a reflection of the human condition. The three paintings of metal buckets are from his still life series of mundane functional items. Zhang often depicts empty containers, an emptiness that can be used as a metaphor for an existential void.

The Rosetta Stone
British Museum

The 1700 pound Rosetta Stone, was discovered in Egypt in 1799. Called the Rosetta Stone because it was discovered at el-Rashid (Rosetta) in Egypt. Carved in 196 B.C., it is part of a larger stele (commemorative slab). The text itself is a list of things the pharaoh, Ptolemy V, had done in his reign.

It was the key to cracking the code that baffled scholars for centuries, to understanding ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. On the stone is the same text written in three different languages: Hieroglyphs, Demotic, and Greek. Historians think that the text was written in three languages so that most Egyptians could understand it. At the top is written in hieroglyphs, the traditional script of Egyptian monuments. In the middle is in Demotic, the common script of literate Egyptians and at the bottom in Greek, the language used by the government. more »

The importance of the Rosetta stone can’t be overstated; the Greek inscriptions provided a key to decoding Egyptian hieroglyphics and the details of their three thousand years of history.___

Rolling Ball Clock
British Museum

Invented by Sir William Congreve about 1820, this Rolling Ball Clock uses a ball rolling along a zig-zag path, rather than a pendulum to measure time. The steel ball takes 30 seconds to roll from one end to the other. At the end, a catch is released and a mechanism tips the table to enable the ball to roll back.

Rachel Harrison is an American artist, whose assemblage sculptures combine and juxtapose abstract forms and colour with manufactured products. The sculpture incorporates a variety of objects, revealing the artist’s interest in chance encounters of seemingly unrelated objects. Harrison uses a visual language to express humour, carefully structured and open-ended simultaneously.

Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890)
Self-portrait with a Bandaged Ear 1889
The Courtauld Institute of Art, London

In November of 1888, Paul Gauguin and van Gogh came together in the town of Arles to paint together. They quickly started to quarrel and after one such vicious argument, van Gogh mutilated his ear. This is one of the first self-portraits he painted after this incident. He believed that painting would help recover his mental equilibrium. Van Gogh stands in front of a Japanese print which he owned. It was his dream to form an artist’s colony, inspired by Japanese art.

Tate Modern, London

The Turbine Hall at Tate Modern is an immense space. Being in this enormity and scale changes the experience of viewing art. The installation is by American artist Richard Tuttle. His works include sculpture, painting and print-making, characterized by a delicate, poetic quality. Without a reference point, his textile installation explores colour, texture and form, permeating with motion.

He had high hopes for social media to elevate us all. A place, to share knowledge.

Dieter abhorred and was infuriated by the flood of inanity, the megalomaniacal self-congratulating, the void echoing the void, empty half-thoughts padded with political correctness. People seeking out confirmation rather than information.

Dieter tried to lift the murkiness of this weak mental machinery but it proved too thick. His attempts to unravel empty, weak arguments were never smug, nor were they filled with condescension. They were filled with frustration, a manic urge to ram one’s head against a wall until unconsciousness eased the pain of the spectacle of reverberating idiocy. He expected more.

His intellect and mental agility had a wonderful dexterity and nimbleness. Knowing Dieter, made every thought, new and fresh because he saw the world at a different depth and breadth.

Walking with him down the streets of Munich, he knew everyone along the way. They would greet him and he would respond with a witty quip that would put a smile on their faces. His warm exchanges with the shop keepers often got all the other customers laughing, filling the store with joy. He had kindness for all those around him.

He had great hair, thick, wavy, with attitude. Expressive eyes and a brilliant smile.

He was a great cook. Each dish was of his own creative invention. He had an intuitive sense of the chemistry and dynamics of the interaction of ingredients. He would take a pepper ring, fill it with cooked sushi rice, add shrimps and cheese, grilled to perfection with a quick drizzle of soy sauce. The sum of the unlikely parts exploding into a culinary experience.

He has said, people either liked him or they didn’t. These are two distinct groups of people. Either you are able to look further up the fruit tree that he was pointing to or you are busy grabbing at the low hanging fruit. If you were lucky enough to see what he was pointing to, he took you on a great ride; into history, philosophy, politics, art, music, humour… the very definition of what being human means.

He was loved by all those who encountered him on his daily routine, loved by those who knew him and Dieter will always be loved by me.

On Joy, in Dieter’s own words:

Why is there so little Joy on Social Networks?

I am not talking about Fun, Humour, Laughter, Warmth, LOLs, inspirational or cute Shit. We have Tons of recycled of Jokes, funny Videos, crash Videos, inspirational Memes - we are drowning in shallow Happy-Happy-Moments.

There is obviously loads of Hate, Conflict, Spite, Anger, Ignorance and Jealousy ...

But there is very little Joy ...

Joy is one Person that shares Joy to another by being personal, direct, spontaneous and generous ...

Joy isn't using Phrases a la "You are awesome!", "You are a Star!" or any other sociopathic Phrases. This is being nice to annoying as well as being cheap and predictable.

Joy "happens" when you surprise someone with a bit of Attention that wasn't needed or expected, when you break the Barrier or what is socially required, when you give because it give you Joy instead investing "Gratification" in the social Bank to reap in some Benefits later ...

Joy is when you create a special Moment, a Story, an Inside Joke, a Photo, a  Graphic or well crafted Words of ... Joy ... in which you reflect on your Friend and your lift your Relationship with him or her to a new Level ...

Joy is created, when you break the Bubble to the Internet, maybe send a Postcard or a little crazy Gift to your Friend. Ordering some little Thing via Amazon even in another country can done with little Money, but with the right Idea it will create a Million Dollar Smile ...

Joy is when something Special takes you out of your Comfort Zone and materialized a new Aspect of Friendship between you and someone else.

Joy is not about Giving, but about sharing or creating something YOU enjoy in the first Place and which like an electric Charge "jumps over" ...

If you yourself don't find Joy in something than you can't share it with Joy, then it's a Gift for the other Person (which isn't that bad either), but real Joy is simple and mutual, neither hysterical nor an Obligation ...

Joy just happens - if you let it happen and let it escape to "hit" someone else you like ...

Joy is the good Life.___
