I've been spending my evening watching video lectures in my Coursera course, "Women in the Civil Rights Movement." This is my first MOOC (Massive open online course). It's not too terrible so far, except when it comes to the discussion board. Pretty chaotic to keep up conversations with a few thousand other students!

Have you ever interacted in a MOOC space? Would you recommend it to others?

How are you supposed to get motivated when its wintery?!?! :(

I admit I've been a terrible person and haven't been getting a lot of exercise since this whole winter thing happened.

My relocation to New England in the summer had brought so many opportunities for great outdoor activities. I walk to work/downtown, live less than a block away from a gorgeous park, and my city is sandwiched between the beautiful ruggedness of New Hampshire and pedestrian friendly Boston. 

However, I'm struggling to even want to get out of bed these days. While it looks pretty from the inside, it's gross and slippery and dangerous outside! It's so cold I have to take 20+ minutes every morning just to get enough layers on to make it bearable. Ideas/tips/tricks?

My birthday is coming up (ok, it's like a month off but still). This is the perfect time to suggest to my friends that we have to do something country-music related since they can't really say no. Best places in the Boston area for country music? I'd prefer Lowell since that is much more workable during the work week.

I know Garcia Brogan's has country night on Thursdays. Legit worth checking out? Any advice? (+Carrie Canup maybe???) I know I have like one shot to get this right, they HATE country music but love me.

I feel guilty for wanting to go out and play in the snow. My neighbors all have their kids hard at work shoveling.

Where did they even get the tiny snow shovels??? Cause I legit want one, our snow shovel is about the same size as me and I don't know what I'm doing.

I'm WOW'ed by the wonderful people I get the chance to work with at the United Teen Equality Center. Cameron Zohoori, Documentary Fellow, reflects on the recent New England Streetworker Conference. Worth a read/watch even for those not in youth work.

I'm so lucky and blessed to have known Ms. Kait Schlegel. 

Kait was the first person I got to know in MA. She knew that I had no family or friends up here and stepped into that role so easily---teaching me how to dress for the weather, braving the scary basement in the dark, making me mac and cheese when I was so homesick that I didn't think I could make it. I thought we had so much time left together.

Kait also gave me the best gift: a family in UTEC, where we worked. I'm so glad I picked up the phone that day in June when she called. In the coming weeks, she would tell me that UTEC needed me and ask me to come here, but the truth is, she understood how much I needed a place like UTEC. She completely changed my life. 

Kait's legacy lives on in so many places. I'm grateful that she chose to be such a big part of my life, if only for a short time. Sheh... more »
