Lois Lerner, the director of the IRS division that oversees nonprofit groups, struck a defiant tone in a statement to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee today.

"I have not done anything wrong," she said. "I have not broken any laws. I have not violated any IRS rules or regulations and I have not provided false information to this or any other committee."

Lerner sparked the IRS scandal on May 10 when she acknowledged that the agency wrongly targeted conservative groups applying for a tax exemption. Her lawyer told the House committee this week that she will invoke her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself.

Snake's New Glasses

A old snake goes to see his doctor. "Doc, I need something
for my eyes. Can't see well these days." The doc fixes him
up with a pair of glasses and tells him to return in two
weeks.

The snake comes back two weeks later and tells the doctor
he's very depressed.

Doc says, "What's the problem -- didn't the glasses help
you?"

"The glasses are fine, Doc. I just discovered I've been
living with a water hose the past two years!"

The Stagecoach

I had a dream the other night. I was in the Old West riding
in a stagecoach. Suddenly, a man riding a horse pulled up to
the left side of the stagecoach, and a riderless horse
pulled up on the right.

The man leaned down, pulled open the door, and jumped off
his horse into the stagecoach. Then he opened the other door
and jumped onto the other horse.

Just before he rode off, I yelled out, "What was all that
about?"

He replied, "Nothing. It's just a stage I'm going through."

Former IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman told a Senate panel he was "dismayed" and "saddened" after reading an inspector general report last week that concluded agency employees wrongly targeted conservative groups seeking a tax exemption.

"The actions outlined in that report have justifiably led to questions about  the fairness of the approach taken here," Shulman told the Senate Finance Committee this morning.

In his first public comments since the IRS scandal broke, Shulman, who stepped down at the end of his term in November, described an agency with a broad mandate that includes overseeing nonprofit groups, tackling offshore tax evasion and implementing a complicated tax code.

"The IRS is a major operation," he said.

Tornado just flattened my #3 son's community. All family safe, but the homes are mostly just splinters. Son is an EMT so he went from "time off" to "time to work".

BERKELEY, CA -- A truck driver was beaten within an inch of his life by California Highway Patrol for not signing a traffic ticket that he could not read. The driver, who broke no laws, was beaten so badly that he woke up in a trauma hospital.

Olegs Kozacenko, a local resident originally from Russia, was pulled over and cited by police for allegedly driving too many hours in one day. Kozacenko refused to sign the ticket because he had not or could not read it.

CHP Officers didn't take kindly to the driver's refusal to sign. Two officers, one of them a trained fist-boxer, beat Kozacenko on the side of the highway nearly to death. He suffered a crushed left orbital eye socket, multiple facial fractures, a broken left arm, broken ribs, a concussion, loss of consciousness, and possible neurological damage. The Directions

A friend was thinking about buying a new house in the
country and asked me to come out and look at it. We found
the town, but we couldn't locate the road. We drove over to
city hall, where a community get-together was going on, and
asked around, but no one had heard of the road. Even the
policemen and fire personnel were stumped.

We went in to city hall and consulted a map, with no luck,
until finally one young man came to our aid. He pointed to
the map, showing us exactly how to get there. I thanked the
young man and asked if he was with the police or fire
department.

"Neither," he replied. "I deliver pizzas."

Just because you do not take an interest in politics does not mean that politics will not take an interest in you.

The woman who commanded the IRS persecution of conservative charities has been appointed the head of the new Affordable Health care Act body which decides who is allowed to have medical care. If you dare inconvenience the tyrants controlling the government, she can order you banned from health care, have you arrested on a pretense, and any number of other illegal acts to punish you for your dissent.

If you think this is just fine because you are a liberal and think that you cannot be targeted for such abuse, then remember the Obama-Nation ends at the next election, when most likely someone who is not a Democrat will become President.

Here you see some of my old college texts being put to good use. Best place for that Intro to Special Relativity. The books are pressing two leathers together while the rubber cement sets up, and then they will be stitched. 

The second photo shows a similar smart phone case just after the leather has been cemented but not yet stitched (I'll do all three phone cases at one time) and the final result such as this snake skin covered smart phone case. 

You can see the black pig skin liner is made to provide a soft lip on the outside of the case bottom, which feels nice, protects the phone from scratching as it is slipped into the case, and feels really nice.

When I line a project with pig skin, first the liner is glued backwards to the outside with rubber cement. Sometimes contact cement eats pigskin. After the cement dries I stitch the pieces together, then FLIP thep... more »

Crafting on three belts today, two to accompany the opal buckle. Also got three more smart phone cases started in time for the holidays.

The canyon tan belt is distressed -- it had been worn before and I removed the hardware for crafting. You can see how the stresses applied to the distressed leather create far more interesting texture and variations in color than perfect, flat, plain leather. The blue belt is not finished dying yet.

Steven Miller, the ousted acting commissioner of the IRS, apologized on Friday for an agency program that targeted conservative groups applying for nonprofit status. "The American public deserves better," he said at the outset of the first congressional hearing on the scandal.

He maintained that agency employees weren't engaged in partisan politics and instead blamed the program on "foolish mistakes."

Miller stepped down on Wednesday at the Obama administration's request.

Hopefully our own law enforcement have better judgment than to let themselves be sucked into participating in anything like these crimes against children. These kinds of actions are used to intimidate people into thinking they are subjects of a repressive tyrant like those under Islam, and that they people have no rights and can be arrested, beaten, or killed for no reason at all any time the "officials" decide they would have pleasure in abusing someone.

Three Bears

The three bears had been having some trouble recently and
ended up in family court. Mama and Papa Bear were splitting
up, and Baby Bear had to decide who he was going to live
with. So, the judge wanted to talk to Baby Bear to see what
he thought about living with either of his parents.

When he asked Baby Bear about living with his father, Baby
Bear said, "No, I can't live with Papa Bear. He beats me
terribly."

"OK," said the judge, "then you want to live with your
mother, right?"

"No way!" replied Baby Bear. "She beats me worse than Papa
Bear does."
