This story will warm you better than a coffee in a cold winter day:
"We enter a little coffeehouse with a friend of mine and give our order. While we're approaching our table two people come in and they go to the counter -
'Five coffees, please. Two of them for us and three suspended'
They pay for their order, take the two and leave. I ask my friend:
'What are those 'suspended' coffees ?'
'Wait for it and you will see'
Some more people enter. Two girls ask for one coffee each, pay and go. The next order was for seven coffees and it was made by three lawyers - three for them and four 'suspended'. I know this sort of thing has probably been brought up before, but I'm looking to refresh some really old skills. I used to be at I guess what I would call an advanced beginner level with Japanese (a few courses in school/college loosely assorted) and I would like to get going with some studies because I have a potential trip to Japan coming up next month, and I'd like to start working hard to refresh my memory. Maybe I missed a proper post on this, but is there a list of recommended resources? There are a lot of resources out there, and I'd like to know which ones you all would consider to be better and if you have the time, why. ありがとうございます

You can't uninvent something, and you can't always predict when someone is going to have a lapse in proper reasoning and make themselves a danger to others. What you can do is create a situation where if something happens like yesterday the headlines may read 1 dead psychopath instead of 26 dead victims.

Total newbie. I'm wondering how the different dialects relate to each other and how different they are. Will learning one mess up my perception of another? I was talking to a second generation Chinese person who knows Mandarin and Cantonese yesterday who mentioned simplified is weird to them in some way I didn't quite grasp, and was wondering how that may be.

Thoughts so far on #newgoogleplus

Things I'm happy about: The re arrangement of the things that used to be on top are now on the side, which I do like more, and then having the circles at the top of the feed. Makes a lot more sense than the previous layout. Trends are also a good addition, as now twitter is officially an antique.

I'm not sure if I like or dislike the new homepage.

Things I'm not so happy about: Poor scaling (lol #whitespace ). Trends/You Might Like/Hangout Invites need to have a way to toggle a collapse, as does the chat bar while I'm in full screen mode.

Logging on to G+ today I find myself with that sinking feeling in my stomache like I do when I see a Facebook UI change. Now to figure out if my first initial horror dictates my overall impression of G+'s new look. I can say this much: The whole chat sidebar needs to go.
