I've seen a few movies lately with actor Luke Goss: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0331577/

After watching Interview with a Hitman, I checked out IMDB and noticed that Luke used to be a part of Bros. I was never really into brit pop, but I do remember hearing this song. It's interesting to see how some people 'do a lot of stuff' in their lives. Goss was a singer, now he's an actor.

Frank Beddor is another good example. He went from world champion freestyle skier to producing There's Something About Mary, and then on to publishing the NY Times bestselling The Looking Glass Wars, which he's now pivoted into the Hatter M graphic novel series.

What is it that drives people like Luke and Frank? Talent? A great mentor?

Horror novels cause destructive thoughts. Video games cause violence. Heavy Metal music causes suicide. Scantily clad women in comic books cause sexism.

This delusion: that fiction causes fact, is an American creation — though it seems to have spread to other cultures. In America, we blame our problems on other people, on inanimate objects, on simulations, on anything but ourselves. I didn’t do it, the book made me do it! The game made me do it! The song made me do it! It wasn’t me!

I’ve been in the middle of this argument in comics and roleplaying games and video games, and it comes down to this: people choose their own path. A work of fiction; a game or comic or film does not dictate an individual’s actions. Anyone who suggests otherwise is insane or wrong.
