Assignment for Jake Johnson

Last week, +Jake Johnson was handing out personalized photo assignment to anyone who wanted to be motivated. The assignment is chosen based on what knows of the person according to the profile info or even through interaction with them.

I've been in the slump again for the last couple of months and I definitely needed the motivation to pick up my camera and shoot anything. So of course I signed up. Here is what he told me:

"You love food and photography, so logically we would combine them right?   I want you to cook an amazing meal this weekend and photograph it."

I went the comfort food route. Here's a dish I loved to eat as a child and can recreate even with my eyes closed. It's called pineapple chicken. It's basically a chicken stew with pineapples, tomatoes and coconut milk. I added some sweetye... more »

The end of the story... or is it?

Have you ever encountered a book that you simply cannot put down? You get so immersed in the story and the characters and you just want to keep reading. You enjoy it so much that you just don’t want it to end.

That is exactly how I felt about the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers  ran by +Robin Griggs Wood . For 13 weeks, it was like being lost in an enchanted book.  It wasn’t just filled with instructions and how-tos; it was full of magic, beauty, colours and stories. It had characters one can relate to and laugh and cry with. There was a well-loved fairy queen who ruled the kingdom with much grace, wisdom and beauty. A C-5 Galaxy was in town a few days ago. We watched it come in for a landing a few times. It was amazing to watch this massive beast maneuver in a seemingly effortless manner.

What a beautiful day. The sun is bright and it is a warm day out at 6°C. Bring on the shorts, tank tops and flipflops. Heh.

Even more important is that it's the +Robin Griggs Wood Appreciation weekend. Why? Just because we can. ;)

Seriously, it's because she is one of the most amazing people someone can ever meet. She is a dedicated and benevolent (my new favourite word) mentor, has a heart of gold and a beautiful soul.

Holy cooper's hawk! I thought somebody threw a rock on our window. Scared the bejeezus out of me. It was a Cooper's Hawk slamming on the window as it tried to catch the squirrel on the bird feeder. The squirrel got away and the hawk went away empty handed taloned. ;)

Y is for the Yellow-ish light reflecting on the wisps of clouds surrounding the moon tonight.

I had to interrupt cooking supper so we could run out and catch the moon as it rose over the horizon. I did manage to capture a few shots of the moon while it looked like an orange-y Yolk.

We’ve come to the end. The end of Week 12 of the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers, that is. Once again, our most wonderful teacher, +Robin Griggs Wood,  provided us with a box of crayons the tools/toys necessary to complete this week’s lesson.

This week's lesson was an extension of last week’s look into the workings of the different colours and colour harmonies. We continued with our study of colours as they helped convey moods, feelings and emotions. Admittedly, I have used and consulted the colour wheel more in the past two weeks than I have ever done before. It was fascinating, to say the least. Like I said last week, it was like being a kid again.

I am fed up with seeing the egregious thievery of this person plastered all over my stream. Nothing of what this guy shares is his own, he never credits the original artist and has even the audacity of putting his own copyright notice on his posts.

Please block him and share this post. I hope that when Google sees a few thousand people blocking him, they might do something.

Colour my world

"Colour, mommy?" That's one of Spawn Two's favourite questions. He squeals with delight whenever he sees crayons, colour pencils, markers, etc. Yes, he had written on everything including the walls, the floor, the furniture. Then he came to me and said, "This is fun!" Colour me unimpressed, but what can you do? Kids will always be kids.

So anyway, on with my post.

It's the end of Week 11 of +Robin Griggs Wood's +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers. This week and next week's lesson is all about colours and colour harmonies. It is a fun lesson for sure. We're like kids given a box of crayons and told to go nuts with them.
