Another Day, Another Heirloom Tomato Severed from its Roots

My ancestors were a smash on the vaudeville circuit. It must have been nice to feel so useful. And to have lived in a world without hydroponics. . .man, what a life!

I came across Sol as I was walking past a farmers' market on my way to visit an amaryllis that lives next to the Manhattan side of the Queens Midtown Tunnel.

Sol is getting by, but struggles with the daily alienation of being an old soul trapped in a modern skin.

I took this shot yesterday while at the University of Minnesota for the National History Day State Tournament. The Weisman Art Museum is at the left in the foreground. Next to that it the pedestrian bridge connecting the East Bank and West Bank campuses. Minneapolis, with its head in the couds, is in the background. The Science Teaching and Student Services building is on the right.

Spring in Minnesota

Yeah, it's like that. So far, we've had 13.5" in Rochester. The previous record for cumulative snowfall during the month of May was 2.0" in 1944.

I had such an awesome experience participating in the Flat Tyler Project.  The 35th running of the Fools Five Road Race took place on April 7, 2013, in Lewiston, Minnesota - and Flat Tyler got to run!  The Fools Five is a benefit for cancer research - this year raising more than $85,000 and adding 40 people to the bone marrow match registry.  The organizers of the race were spectacular - giving Flat Tyler a race number, timing chip, and t-shirt to commemorate his racing experience.

Eagle's Nest Above It All

I met her when she was still Kimberly Pemberton. That was before she got locked out for overloading Google's glitter filter, before we had the "Kimberly Pemberton's Nonstop Streaming Google Glitch Party and Collaborative Retrospective (also, I brought chips)" event so we could still be in touch with her, and before she had to change her name to +kimberton pemberly to sneak back in to G+. It was during my first week on G+, and I came across a picture that she posted of herself in front of a sign (No smoking?) while flipping the middle finger. And the best part was the narrative where she mentioned that her kid took the picture.

That attitude was so energizing, and still is. Yes, she's an amazing photographer, makes some of the most beautiful images I've seen. Nothing against beautiful images, of course. I love to see my... more »

I see a lot of ugliness in my day job as a prosecutor. I have to confront the dark side of humanity, and get through it while still believing that we're all basically good.  It's not easy. Being immersed in the reality of the horrible things that people do to each other makes it seem like that's the norm.

My perspective on life could easily get out of balance. 

Now, I enjoy photography for a number of reasons. I love the challenge of trying to master new techniques, and actually being able to produce images that I visualize.

Hello friends I'm not really sure what the end result will be....here are the beginning details.
Tyler
My daughter and son-in-laws 18 yr old nephew Tyler has inoperable cancer, he has been in the hospital since Oct. He has spent most of his time in ICU the Drs. have announced that there is nothing more they can do. He will spend the rest of his days here.
The fun details
Nicole is in the process of creating a flat Tyler and we are looking for friends and family to host him. We want so much for Tyler to see the world and know the kindness of people he will never meet.
The details are still being worked out, a digital file has been created for hosts to print out. You will then email the photos of Flat Tyler's adventures back to to us.
The Gift

Happy Birthday, +Eustace James. This is an outtake from my Selfy Sunday project photo shoot this past weekend. There are a few reasons why I'm posting this one for you, EJ.

1. I didn't realize it was your birthday, so I didn't have a chance to shoot something new.

2. I posted a flower shot during the #huntlove  thing not that long ago.

3. You're my inspiration for working on my lighting. I've picked up a couple of tips from you along the way, and I appreciate it, but that's not the main thing. Your work has motivated me to check out Strobist.com, watch tutorial videos, even work on some DIY lighting setups. Your work pushed me to improve mine. I see something of yours and think "I want to do that." Then I try to figure out how.
