#autoawesome  appears to work beautifully. This is a series of images I am using for a timelapse project - just wanted to check out this new motion feature and see what all the hubbub is about. 

Taken in #Portland   #Oregon  During 2013 Cinco De Mayo Festival. 

Tip : It took roughly an hour or so for this to appear in the album so be patient after you upload. Eventually it will process it and you'll see a moving image in the series somewhere. Mine was mixed in the middle of all the photos.

Playing with light and focus.
Just an experiment using a reversal ring with a Canon 50mm f1.8. Quite a challenge to get something in focus, but you can get so close.

I highly recommend the +Moose Peterson Hoya Circular Polarizers if you can find them.

They are warming CP's which even with my digital DSLR I really like for the feel it gives the shots.

I have the 58, 72, and 77 version of it for my different #Canon  lenses.

Start Somewhere
Whether gone, going, or waiting, we all must...

This image is another angle of the same tree I posted in late February ( http://www.chrismackay.me/2013/02/26/forevergreen ). It is an HDR, comprised of 5 images, spanning 5 Ev, all taken with my Canon PowerShot A480 running CHDK (non destructive) firmware, and then processed with Nik Software's HDR Efex Pro 2.

Hammer & Sickle

It's time for me to put up some more of my Chernobyl and Pripyat photos from last year, first, because it will soon be the anniversary of the Chernobyl explosion, and second, because it will soon be the anniversary of my visit last year.

Chernobyl and Pripyat are enormously rewarding photo destinations, yet, they are also enormously frustrating photo destinations too.  The coat of arms of the USSR, seen here, tops the tallest building in Pripyat, and to capture this shot I was 16 floors below the level of the subject, more than half a mile away, and off to the lower left of the subject to minimize trees blocking the subject.  I had to do a lot of work to present the photo perspective as straight on as I could, but it's not perfect.  Maybe it's the best that could be done given the circumstances?

Picking up a couple of more of these as an early birthday present.

I'm finding myself using more memory card space since I'm traveling more and dumping cards less and also I'm now using SD cards in the 5D Mark III.

I'm finding myself shooting RAW/JPG combo on the G1X and 5D3 since then  I have a jpg to share from the road then a RAW file to edit/process later at home in Lightroom 4.

Looking to try a prime-lens?

A great "second" lens for any #Canon  shooter is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 which is known affectionately as the "nifty fifty".

On a cropped sensor camera, the lens will shoot like a 80mm lens, which makes it great for portrait work and also general "walk-around" photography.

The f/1.8 means you can create dreamy "bokeh" with limited depth-of-field.

For the price, it is a good investment and introduction to what a prime lens can do.

What do you see?

Sometimes instead of getting outside the box, it helps to put yourself IN one. Using a 1:1 format (or cropping after) can change the dynamics of an image and also is an homage to the square format film cameras of the past.

I find myself looking for squares now.  #PhotoSquared

We are looking for a couple of new folks to help with moderating posts in the community and to help keep things in line.

We would really like to find someone in Europe, Asia/Australia, and also someone in the Western US to help cover the time differences.
