I may not look fully Chinese, but I have often felt very Chinese in America. Many of my values are informed by my mother such as respect of one’s elders or a lifelong emphasis on learning and education. Chinese holidays were routinely celebrated in our household. And yes, “Haw Flakes” and “pork floss” sandwiches were routinely packed in the school lunch box.

To be an officially recognized contemporary artist in China, you must stay on script and veer away from the politically taboo.
Given such strict guidelines in a land known for censorship and government control, is there room for authenticity in Chinese contemporary art?

How authentic is the voice of contemporary art in China?
This month, I welcome three players in the Chinese art market -- Wang Chunchen (Curator of the China Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2013), Meg Maggio (prominent contemporary art dealer and founder of Pekin Fine Arts), and Jonathan Stone (International Chairman of Asian Arts at Christie's).
All at the table this month, "On China."

So an environmental agency in Hong Kong says the increased smog in the territory is due to "a lot more sunshine."
(Insert eyebrow raise here.)
In this month's "On China," I ask Christine Loh, the Under Secretary for the Environment in Hong Kong, about the causes of Hong Kong's air pollution.
"People in the public health and in the environment area don't often work together," says Loh.
"So in a way, you have administrations all around the world where different bits of the government don't see cleaning up as everybody's goal. You need strong leadership at the top to make it clear that if you are going to clean up air pollution or water pollution, this is a priority of the whole administration."

IQAir purifiers are not enough to protect the youngest victims of China's pollution crisis...
Thanks to the toxic haze in Beijing and other Chinese cities, children are often confined indoors or wearing face masks when venturing outside. Many have been sickened. Growth and development may be stunted.
No wonder many expats are choosing to leave. But what about the hundreds of millions who have no choice but to breathe in the choking air?

As U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will be in Seoul on Friday for talks on North Korea, how does the U.S. plan to prevent "diplomatic Groundhog Day" with North Korea?
There's long been a pattern of brinksmanship, saber-rattling, talks, and ultimately... defiance.

The core question.
"What would North Korea’s leadership get from unleashing a war that they are likely to lose in weeks, if not days?"

The Kaesong pullout, the threats, the rising tension. Why is North Korea doing this -- is it to force the hand of the international community or does it reflect an internal political issue?
