Day After Hurricane Sandy
Brooklyn, NY

Here are some shots that I took while walking around the neighborhood this morning. Hurricane Sandy hit the shoreline pretty hard as you'll see in some of the photos (this is Bensonhurst, Brooklyn), but we were lucky at the house with no damage, no flooding, and no power outages.

Out of the 5 boroughs of New York City, Manhattan was probably hit the hardest - specifically, lower Manhattan. The sea level rose 14 feet last night (9' storm surge + 5' high tide) which flooded streets, the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, the New York Stock Exchange and many subway stations. The gas company had some minor explosions last night and many parts of New York City are without electricity due to intentional de-powering, the plant explosions, and/or power lines which were taken out from the wind and downed trees. The Beauty of Hurricane Sandy
Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY - 6:00pm, Monday 10/29

Hey all, sorry I've been absent from #leadinglinesmonday participation today. I have about 90 notifications, and I promise to get to every single one of them (if they don't cut out our electricity soon)! 

+Peggy Richardson and I were working from home today and doing lots of hurricane preparation. We made the risky decision to brave the elements this evening in the hopes of getting some cool shots. Here is one that I came away with. Hope you enjoy, and for everyone who is dealing with the storm right now, stay safe and God bless. 

And check out this video taken by Peggy showing a sequence of 3 waves that were roughly 30 feet tall hitting the stone walls of the Shore Road bike path in the same spot as where my picture was taken:

Hurry Along Now

While in Athens this past May I was caught a little off-guard when I heard some rustling in the bushes behind me.  The twig snaps seemed to continue longer than they should for a critter scampering by.  I got down low and peered into the shadows beneath the shrubs and found that this guy was responsible for all the racket.
