I don't go to the movies very often. I think the last time I went to a theatre on purpose was to see the first of the current Star Trek movies, and then I only went because it was a private screening and I could reasonably expect the audience to shut the fuck up, turn off their damn phones, and pay attention to the film.

I planned to write a paragraph here detailing why I hate going to the movies, but I think I just covered it, so let me write a different paragraph instead, about how I finally found a movie theatre that I will go to as long as it exists: the iPic theatre in Pasadena (also called Gold Class, I understand) is the only way I will ever watch a movie again for the rest of my life if I can help it. It costs much more than a typical multiplex, but it is entirely worth it, and this theatre has replaced the Arclight (which makes me sad, but sometime in the last couple of years,... more »

Hi.

A quick update on the current "silence" of mine here:
There has been a .... unfortunate event .. in the family, so I am a bit busy at the moment. I will catch up with all the great posts (which I've only quickly looked over so far, but will check out / share/ comment still of course!) as soon as possible -- I will be back home Sunday lunchtime/afternoon sometime, but it'll probably take till monday for me to get sorted and catch up.
But by all means keep the great submissions up I will definitely check them out -- also if you hashtag with #MetallicMonday  and/or mark/mention the page most people should be able to see it as-is (nevertheless I will still do the usual resharing again).

Also the cover image will be done as soon as I've gone through the latest submissions for the theme.

Sorry for the "silence" again.

Heute Abend geht der neue Anime-Block bei Tele5 an den Start! Los geht es mit dem Tekken CGI Movie (is ja eigentlich kein Anime... aber da sehen wir mal großzügig drüber hinweg...). Nächste Woche starten dann Guilty Crown und Black Lagoon. Ihr habt es in der Hand Animes einen festen Platz im deutschen Free-TV zu verschaffen, also fleißig schauen ;)

Hi. I'm currently shooting with a Canon EOS 400d and am considering upgrading. Since I only have one lens at the moment I am not really "locked in" to Canon yet, so I thought I'd have a look at the competition too.

I've been looking at the A65 so far (and A77  a bit, although that is a bit outside my original price range).

What I would like to know is why did you choose Sony over Canon/Nikon/Pentax and how has it been going for you so far? Are you completely happy with your choice?

A question for photographers:

How do you calibrate your screen / printer? Using color charts(if so which ones? A Macbeth ColorChecker or maybe does it work with a RAL color sheet too?)? Trial and error? or use one of those color measuring thingies that I keep forgetting the name of?

The reason I am asking is because I am having a bit of trouble calibrating screens on multiple pcs and/or printers at the moment. (A photo looks  fine on my screen, but at work they do look quite different..)

P.S.: notified a few people who I think might know this, but might miss the post otherwise (due to timezones,..) I hope you don't mind.

Star k Trek Theme  Played On Harps

So the Harp Twins have previously done a version of the Doctor Who theme tune. Now they tackle Star Trek.

It's really one of the nicer versions of the theme I've heard and they've even got some  classic Star Trek uniforms on, plus what looks like authentic alien planet scenery from the original series.

I'll never get the whole dressing identically thing though.

I meant to do this for a while, but finally thought about doing it enough in advance this week ;)

So anyway to get to the point. I think it is long overdue that the page gets a decent cover photo. While I can try to take one myself I thought it'd be a lot more fun if we make it an event and then decide which to use.

So anyway if you have a photo, which you think would fit, and don't mind me using as a cover of course, then just put a link in the comments here - or add it to the event .. although I think if you "normally" share with the page and #MetallicMonday  and put a link to the post in the comments here it probably makes more sense.

This game is so much fun!!

I just discovered it (thanks to webcomic Owl Turd) and I can't stop playing it. It's super simple to pick up, has a great soundtrack, looks like a Minecraft FPS, and is only five bucks.

You know, it would be nice if we could send Adobe a message about how mad this massive increase in price makes us. I now upgrade Adobe Photoshop every other version,; this amounts to around $300 over a 3 year period.  The best I can do under the new CC model is $20 per month for PS; which equals $240 per year. "The old model cost me around $100/year to stay as current as I needed to be.  The new model will cost me $240 a year.

I'm told by people who have their bread buttered by Adobe, that this unbelievable increase in price is reasonable.  Not only will this increase my costs in a staggering way, it will reduce Adobe's need to provide enough new features to entice people to upgrade.  They can scale back development, they can reduce their marketing budget - only need to market CC, not the product line.  To add insultto injury, L... more »
