One of my faves from a rainy day wedding last month in San Jose, CA.  

I only got two frames fired off (this was my first) before my Pocket Wizards stopped working.  I checked my settings, changed the batteries, nothing...worried it had shorted out from the rain...eventually had to move on...found out back at the reception it just wasn't screwed on to my hot shoe tight enough.  Doh.  Thank goodness this first shot came out ok and I didn't lie belly down on the wet street for nada. :)

"Mist in Cooks Meadow in Yosemite" From my photo shoot this past week with the fall colors and backlit leaves as the sun is rising over the peak. The mist in Cooks Meadow and the fall colors was just tranquil! I found the backlit leaves
and curvy branches twisting with the leaves! Did you find the hidden treasure in the top left of the photo?! Half Dome is tucked in the trees.  Yosemite National Park in the fall is so wonderful!  Enjoy!  John

...chilling on a cable car at California and Market in SF last week, admiring the awesomeness of some of his earlier shots that night (many of me, ha)

We went strolling about the City practicing some off-camera lighting.   While +Chris Chabot was doing amazing stuff with his Elinchrom strobes, I wanted to work on some techniques with a couple speedlights.  I was inspired by the work of Dustin Diaz on this one.  If you haven't seen his 365 project from 2009 on Flickr, it's great stuff. He diagrams the strobist info on almost all of his shots, which really show the versatility and power of  these little flash guns. Mossbrae Falls - Dunsmuir, CA

I made a quick day trip up to these falls last week for the first time, after discovering them using +Trey Ratcliff's iPad app +Stuck On Earth a while back.  The traditional way to these falls, along a one-mile, often narrow stretch of active train tracks, is now officially closed and off-limits while they work on a safer trail, but if you are willing to ignore the no trespassing signs (at your own risk) and dodge a few trains (think Stand By Me...babies on strollers...don't even think about it), you can still get there easy enough.
