Old video (2009), but: LOL
The Beggar Robot has access to areas normally off-limits to beggars, such as shopping malls and community events, where the richer members of society more often frequent. The hypothesis is that this part of society is only able to show some sympathy towards the marginalized if they communicate from a safe distance and via a technological interface. The project tests and exploits the advantages of robotic interface by bringing the Beggar Robot to public spaces in different countries and adapting it to the local context and local language, to beg in the name of the poor.

Please help us make more robot creatures & interesting things!
As many people here reading this know, we really enjoy making robot creatures! It’s our passion, we want to eventually create a world where these robot creatures can interact together and with humans.
One of the problems that we’ve run in to right now is that we don’t have much money to spend on different robot parts. We want to make bigger robots with more actuators and sensors- for a different interactive experience. But, we get stuck on creating little things. It becomes extremely difficult to earn money when we are spending much of our time on creating these robots.
We need your help to support our robot building activities and experiments. With your help, we will be able to make more crazy robots. We will also be trying to save money for Maker Faire NY, 2013.
We set up a page on Patreon, where... more »

Here's my definitive list of people to follow if you want to see robotics and electronics hacking in your feed. These are the people that inspire me to keep doing what I do. Many of them I know in person or hope to meet some day. #DIY #OpenSource

just for fun
Poor girls earthquake sensor. It detects cars driving by (manhole cover -> mini-earthquake).

Just a small update about what I'm doing and stuff:
Learning that spectrum analyzer/tracking generator thing (image:CB-FM-Signal),
robot-head: replacing ADXL335 (red) with better 10DOF 9-axis Indicator Module L3G4200D ADXL345 HMC5883L BMP085 Acceleration Gyro (blue)
Got my copper-wire for VLF-antennas and diy-magnetometer
Good website aboutVLF: http://www.vlf.it/
And I'm building something like this:
A simple magnetometer for detecting earthquake precursors

So many toys to play with ... so little time.
I will get more over the next few days, e.g. 1.5 GHz Spectrum Analyzer, more sensors (40+), more material for VLF/SDR/robotics and I'm setting up a cluster for speech-/image-processing/graph-db.
-> So .. maybe 1 post/week (max) and no social media interaction (commenting/plussing), some activity will be in tech-related forums/boards or mail-lists. Imho classical forums/boards/email are better for such things, e.g. threaded discussion (sorry g+). Understanding and building technical things is so fascinating! tnx for listening.

My little compass/magnetometer-collection
Look what I got today :-) (no specific order):
MicroMag 3-Axis Magnetometer
Triple Axis Magnetometer
Tilt Compensated Compass Module
Compass Module
... and now I will do some tests myself.

"Me thinking" while playing around with electronics, FFT/SDR, antennas and night-rain/cloudy sky outside: Why not amateur radio astronomy?
Sun and Jupiter are easy targets, I guess.

Skynet is Real — Now What?
Time for personal consequences, and if yes, then which ones specifically?
The technology companies, whose cooperation is essential to PRISM operations, include most of the dominant global players of Silicon Valley, according to the document. They are listed on a roster that bears their logos in order of entry into the program: “Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, Apple.” PalTalk, although much smaller, has hosted traffic of substantial intelligence interest during the Arab Spring and in the ongoing Syrian civil war.
Dropbox, the cloud storage and synchronization service, is described as “coming soon.”

My stereo-vision project
This is my first test-version, 2 webcams + 2 BBBs, each BBB is for image-processing, 3rd BBB is for stereo-calculation. There is a GPS+Arduino Uno for coordinates and a 3-axis accelerometer + Arduino Uno for cam-orientation. Data goes to a switch->notebook and it is controlled via notebook (both not visible). Now the difficult part: getting timing right and all the data together. If image-sync is too bad a fourth BBB will do the job.

Webcam, image-processing and BeagleBone Black
A little slooow, so I ordered additional BBBs for stereo-image-processing (me waiting...)
Great how-to - Beaglebone Images, Video and OpenCV:

I had to modify this - now real work starts.

Messing with pins and device-drivers is like walking in the dark.
My little Chinese friend DS203 is a little light in this darkness, but display is small and UI is not so good. So I called his bigger brother:
Rigol DS1102E, is much better. Signal is TX from GPS-module.
Don't care about menus and light, I'm pushing buttons (me not reading manualz).
Chinese scopes are not as good as R&S®RTO1044, but my Rigol is only 388 Euro.

I showed my bbb-gps-stuff to a few other people and ... these are the things I learned:
- GPS in buildings has it's own issues and PC-2-Beaglebone Black has problems too.
- Real SSH is better than that Browser-GateOne SSH-Client (Set Date thing fails sometimes).
- Fixing things is actually fun instead of annoying.
Some indoor data (NMEA/http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/nmea.htm) - I guess I'm boring now:

GPS and BeagleBone Black
It works!
I added UARTs to device-tree (edit, compile and copy) + enabled overlay, because there is no(!) ttyO1... in my Ångström-linux.
More info: http://devicetree.org/Device_Tree_Usage
I started "minicom -b 4800 -D /dev/ttyO4" to get some gps-module-data, UTC-time is visible.
However, beaglebone black serial UART -> ttyO... is nothing for beginners.

Fun with SDR (Software-defined radio)
A notebook, 20$-DAB-stick, free software and that 10 cm long mini-antenna. Me: Listening to CW (70-centimeter amateur radio band), very weak signals, but it's a start. I'm going to need a bigger antenna....
