Venetian Fresco
The mega-resort even borrows a little from other parts of Italy, with such features as the magnificent painted fresco that covers the arched the ceiling leading from the hotel's registration area to the casino. Modeled after Michelangelo's masterpiece ceiling in the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, the Venetian Hotel's ceiling is popular with those staying at the resort as well as sightseers.

Made some macadamia nut fudge yesterday so thought I would shoot it today. Simple one light (soft box) to the right with small reflector to the left. Had to strategically place the pieces so that the light would scrape along the surface without catching to much light to cause a hot spot. Shot with a 70-200 @ f/11.

Learning by reading is great but I believe that doing is the only way to really learn something. I saw a similar simple picture of a spoonful of peas and decided it would be a good exercise to recreate this shot. I had frozen peas, a spoon, black background, clamps, white bounce cards, speed light and a free afternoon. This shot took me about 2-1/2 hours because of trial and error. The steam was the real challenge. I have since acquired a steamer but for this shot I used a birthday candle that I blew out prior to placing it behind the peas. I realize that the peas are not perfect and some day I will redo this with perfect peas and steam instead of smoke.

Hi all! I am a pharmacist by day but have immersed myself in photography over the last few years. My primary loves are portrait and food photography. I cook some but most of my shots are from restaurants where I let the professionals prepare the food. I have taken my use of flash from portraits and used it to give an impromptu restaurant shot that studio look. I am excited to learn and share experiences here.
