I cleaned this up a bit, got rid of the extraneous frames so the snail only teleports once per viewing. +Charles Strebor does it still work? Work better? Worse?

How to Learn Anything
"The major barrier to skill acquisition isn't intellectual... it's emotional." An excellent reminder of how easy it can be to learn a new skill. Kaufman says it only takes 20 hours.
"Josh Kaufman is the author of the #1 international bestseller, 'The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business', as well as the upcoming book 'The First 20 Hours: Mastering the Toughest Part of Learning Anything.' Josh specializes in teaching people from all walks of life how to master practical knowledge and skills. In his talk, he shares how having his first child inspired him to approach learning in a whole new way."

My (sort of) NSFW Elephant Joke
So, an ant is walking along and he came upon an elephant, who was obviously distressed. He asked the elephant what was wrong and she replied "I have a thorn in my foot and I can not get it out! It is ever so painful."
The Ant replied, well, I can help but you must promise to let me bugger you if I get the thorn out." The Elephant, seeing the absurdity of the request, agreed immediately.
The ant soon extracted the thorn, and climbed up to take his just reward. As he was buggering the elephant, a monkey came across them and, offended, started throwing coconuts at the pair. One bounced off the elephants head. "Ouch!", she exclaimed.
"Yeah, take it all!, said the ant.

There was a book, much like this, in my childhood. A very prized possession I no longer have in person, but always there in spirit.
If you're so inclined, share your favourite #ElephantJokes, by comment here, or in your own post.
Give yourself a moment of childish joy, and let the stress diminish, if only for that moment.

One for my Danes:
Where does one go (besides the retail chain stores; Silvan, Bauhaus etc) to find lumber? You know, wood for building stuff? I'd need it cut to size and delivered to our place just outside of Hedehusene. My searches turn up very little, even using DBA and KRAK, so I figure I am missing a critical danske word.
+Kent Oldhøj - any suggestions?

Making and testing a biodiesel fuel made from ethanol and waste french-fry oil
Prepared by Charles L. Peterson et. al.
Idaho Department of Water Resources Energy Division
Boise, Idaho
--------------------------------
Emissions tests showed a 54 percent decrease in HC, 46 percent decrease in CO, 14.7 percent decrease in NOx, 0.57 percent increase in CO2 and a 14 percent increase in PM when HySEE was compared to D2.
The HC, CO and NOx differences were statistically significant.
----------------------------------
CONCLUSIONS
A complete set of fuel characteristics for HySEE and diesel are presented. Performance tests demonstrated that HySEE can be used to successfully fuel a diesel engine.
In general, the testing performed has shown that torque and power are reduced about 5 percent compared to D2 and fuel consumption is increased 7 per... more »

Square Foot Gardening Overview
An excellent introduction in a few slides.
http://www.suwanee.com/pdfs/Square%20Foot%20Gardening%20PP%20031610.pdf
I have to admit, I am smitten by the Square Foot Gardening method. It is algorithmic enough to satisfy that part of my psyche and the prospect of supplying our own fruit and veg while beautifying our garden and making it more wildlife friendly is too much to resist.
We have a lot of salvaged material here from the previous owner's efforts, so the biggest expense is going to be seed stock and the soil to fill the 4x4 boxes. Both these expenses are front loading the system and with the exception of new seed for new varieties (SFG is very conservative of seeds) I will only have to lay out large for it once. I can get a single big bag of soil sufficient for 13 plots, we are only planning 6 this season, and we already... more »

The arguments and false controversy over whether global warming exists (it does) and whether humans are responsible (we are) are ones generated by the public due to politics, deniers, interest groups, and lack of education.
According to the majority of climatologists and other informed analysts, most of the claims made by global warming skeptics on TV, online, and in print aren't based on legitimate science.
An extensive review of the scientific literature was just published on May 15, 2013 in Environmental Research Letters and is the most comprehensive meta-analysis on the subject ever performed to date.
The review looked at ~12,000 international studies on climate change from peer-reviewed scientific journals over the past 2 decades (1991-2011). Of these, ~4,000 studies specifically evaluated and expressed a stance on anthropogenic global warming: an... more »

What Can We Learn from Denmark?
The Danish people rank among the happiest in the world and “enjoy a quality of life that many Americans would envy” with universal health care, inexpensive prescription drugs, strong family-leave laws and free higher education, Sen. Bernie Sanders wrote in a column published in Friday’s Barre, Vt., Times Argus. The senator will host town meetings this weekend with Danish Ambassador Peter Taksøe-Jensen in Burlington, Brattleboro and Montpelier to explore what Americans could learn from Denmark’s social model.

Cables from Down South - 17/05/2013
Back in Melbourne again...
There's an image missing from the album... the OCD is telling me to find it now.... the exhaustion is telling me not to bother.... which will win... which will win.
The Back Story -->>>
Everywhere that isn't Darwin is referred to as 'Down South' by Darwinites. As I was travelling in Victoria and Queensland during the last portion of April and the first portion of May, I thought it an opportune time to image as many cables as possible to make up for the lack of cables in my suburb.
