In the wee hours of the morning, I watched one of my favorite classics: Cheaper by the Dozen. In the morning, I went to visit the office where I'll be interning this summer. I then spent some time refreshing/rearranging my Google Music library, and finally, I color-coded my keys to make it easy to grab the right key for the right car.

Daniel's Dailies - May 18, 2013

Today was incredibly hectic! I went to breakfast at McDonalds and got a great deal: all the food pictured cost me a total of $1.07 because I am an avid coupon-user. I then attended WordCamp 2013, a WordPress conference, as a requirement for an internship I'll be doing this summer. From there, I went and picked up a few friends and a few pizzas and came home, where I had a Hobbit-watching party with several friends. Most had to leave after the movie, but a few were able to stay; we stayed up till 2:00 a.m. playing VeggieTales games online and watching both Tim Hawkins and BlimeyCow videos.

Goal #1 of the summer - Complete!

I have a ton of goals/objectives/plans to do this summer vacation (not really much of a vacation any more, is it?), and I just spent the  entire morning completing the first one: cleaning up my room.
 Over the past semester, tons of books/papers/junk had accumulated across all the nooks and crannies of my room (Have You Eaten? - Tim Hawkins), and I didn't have the time to clean it. Now my room doesn't look like a pigsty any more!

I've been teaching piano lessons for the last 5 years, and I'm hoping to get a few extra students over the summer, when I have more time than during the school year. We were still out camping today. I did a ton of stuff, including hydrobiking, more hiking, and cleaning/packing as we headed home. In the evening, I went to REI to check out some Vibram Five-Fingers. I think I'm going to buy them! 

Do you have any experience with VFFs? I'm planning to get their "Spyridon LS* model.

The updated Google Music app for Android - WOAH!

I just updated my Google Music app, and...well, let's just say that the old app was one of the ugliest Android apps, and that the new version is just as beautiful as the old was ugly. Design and thought ooze from every little section of the app. It's fantastic.

One if my favorite things to do when camping is to build small rafts out of completely natural materials. This one is made of sticks, river grass, and reeds. I actually moistened and braided all the river grass first to make it easy to tie.

And yes, the raft floated quite well!

Today was so much fun! At church, in order to make it special for the mothers, we had all the boys dress "fancy." The result? The spiffiest group of youngsters in the 'hood. In the evening, we had a big barbecue as well. Now, I'm just studying for my final final, Calculus 2, which is tomorrow morning. This should be my last all-nighter for a while...

Today was a crazy day. I spent quite literally the entire morning (including the late night/early morning) studying for my Embedded Systems final. I took a break in the afternoon to attend one of my best friends' graduation, then went to UT to take the test. I mean, who gives finals on Saturday nights from 7-10pm? Well, UT does, apparently...

On my way home, I stopped at the store to get my wonderful mother some flowers. Somehow, though, I walked out with flowers not just for my mom, but for all the moms in my church...smooth.

Today, I went to UT in the morning to talk to an adviser about some classes. It had been raining pretty hard, but once the rain stopped, the sky was breathtakingly beautiful! I spent the rest of the day studying for my Embedded Systems final which is tomorrow night (Saturday night).

Today was a busy day. While cleaning my little brothers' room, I found my old harmonicas. I also updated my new website, http://danielmatthewjames.com. In the evening, we had a good-bye party for a friend from church who is going to Israel and Jordan for the summer, for research (he's doing his Ph.D is Hebrew Bible at UT). And now I'm going to be pulling an all-nighter to study for my Engineering Physics 1 final tomorrow.

My two-week review of Google Glass: it all depends on the price

This week I gave five speeches while wearing it.
I passed through airports four times (two more in a couple of hours).
I let hundreds of people try my Google Glass.
I have barely taken it off since getting it other than to sleep.

Here's my review after having Google Glass for two weeks:

1. I will never live a day of my life from now on without it (or a competitor). It's that significant. 
2. The success of this totally depends on price. Each audience I asked at the end of my presentations "who would buy this?" As the price got down to $200 literally every hand went up. At $500 a few hands went up. This was consistent, whether talking with students, or more mainstream, older audiences.
