This is a promo shot I did for Abatis right before they played their set at Aubergine after Dark in Sebastopol. It really pays off to always have your camera gear with you. The funny thing about this photo is that I posed the band members under the dartboards because I liked the barn wood booth that was build up to separate the dart players from the lounge and billiard area. I've built a barn wood island in a kitchen before and It turned out awesome so did the photo if you ask me.

This is one of my favorite photos that I'm going to print for my portfolio from the band Abatis.

I now use three speed lights at local alternative concerts. They don't mind me using them either. I color the speed lights depending on the bands style or mood of their music. The master flash is on camera and in this photo only the flash from the left hand side fired (orange). the one on the right was blue but it didn't receive the infrared signal from the master flash. I love how the photo turned out anyway. It really represents the powerfull performance Abatis puts on.

The upper floors of the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco

I've been to the _Regency Ballroom_ for many concerts but I've never been upstairs. In this clip you'll see what it's like thanks to Survival Guide one of my favorite local bands to see hear and shoot live. I'll share some of my live photos from their gigs I've shot.

I now have all my favorite photos on my SmugMug page that I've taken of The Phenomenauts this year.

I'm going to print some on Aluminum and hang them at their "Command Center" in Oakland. That way I'm not hanging something behind glass that could get broken and hurt someone at their venue. ;)

I love supporting local bands

Seeing MÆRE and hugging the band members twice this week was wonderful. I got to shoot them on Thursday, my photography friend shot them on Wednesday while I enjoyed the performance.

I have given them around 200 extra views on their Amen by MÆRE video clip from my Google+ and Facebook friends. They were blown away by what I did for them. They couldn't understand where all the views were coming from.

I hope we can get some more submissions for the #BattleOfTheVideoClips! I have going on. Thanks to +Daniel Ely Rankin for participating! I hope +Alida Brandenburg will join in on the fun!

The Human Light Suit -- Burning Man

I just discovered +Eric Schwabel (a.k.a Softbox) and his Human Light Suit project. He sets up a mobile photo studio at Burning Man each year and does a ton of amazing portraits.

I'm not sure what's more impressive: the fact that he's taking the effort to shoot medium format with Profoto Pro-7b's into a beauty dish or the fact that it's all griped together on a c-stand that he's mounted to a bicycle. Don't even get me started about the dust...

Very very impressive way to shoot Burning Man. Way to go Eric.

Full Moon Over San Francisco #2: 4/5/12

Yup, it's that time again! I'm organizing another full-moon photocrawl on April 5, so if you missed the last one (9/11/11) or the haze ruined your shots, this could be your chance. I'm inviting two groups this time: photographers from g+ and from the Marin Photo Club. Even though it's a Thursday night, I would guess the g+ crowd will probably outnumber the MPC folks.

Moonrise is at 6:48pm. Sunset is 7:37pm. IOW the moon rises 49 minutes before sunset. Best opportunities will probably be between 7:20 and 8:15 or so.

I'll have details over the next few days. For those who can get off work early, we'll probably have an early/quick dinner at -- you guessed it -- the Cantina in Mill Valley at 5pm. We'll start shooting at Ft. Baker at 6:15-6:30. And I'm working on a place to rendezvous after the crawl... more »

I learned something today!

You should see me smiling now I feel like running around the house screaming. Why didn't I find this tool earlier? It makes life so much easier! I never used the extract filter and the history brush. I feel sooooooooo goooooood now!

Christy's Thursdays

I just saw Survival Guide yesterday in Santa Rosa and was blown away. I am overwhelmed by the talent by all the artist performing at Christy's on the Square. Pillars of the Night

This morning I've been playing around with the new Lightroom 4 beta on some of my more challenging images. It takes a while to get re-oriented to how the new controls work but then you realize just how powerful and wonderful the changes are. Because of the great contrast between the dark night sky and the moon lit rocks in this photo it was a tricky one to process, but with LR4 beta it was actually quite easy. I'm looking forward to its full release which I'm guessing will happen this spring. #PlusPhotoExtract

Christys on the Square - Thursdays

I've been going to open mics in my town and shooting them every week and just recently I've found Christys on the Square. It's a pricey lounge in Santa Rosa CA and on Thursdays they host alt. and indie. rock shows. I've really become fond of the venue after two shows.

So on Thursdays I go to the open mic in town and head on to Santa Rosa after 9 with my DSLR.
