I would love your support.  We now have a web page for donations in order to make the process quick and easy.

We're not looking for large amounts-- our goal is $10.00, per person.  When large groups give small amounts, miracles can happen.  I BELIEVE we are going to changing lives in a big way!!
Thank you, all!

I'm a firm BELIEVER that it only takes a small group of people to make a big difference. If more people would commit to a small contribution, there is no telling what kind of changes we could make in the world. For this reason, I have recently partnered with a friend to open up Tumaini Safe House in northern Uganda, which is a safe house for girls in need. Tumaini means HOPE in Swahili and this home will protect, house, teach, and prepare these girls for a prosperous and happy adult life.

These young girls have been kidnapped, orphaned, enslaved and forced into prostitution, as early as 7 years old. They are now safe and protected from the horrors that they were forced into. We have helped almost 100 girls, so far, and we are hoping to create a safe space for them to blossom, even further.

We are looking for donations of $10... that's it. This small donation will go directly to the girls and there is no middle man or fat organization that will take a dime of your donation-- I will personally guarantee that, as I am the co-founder and director of the home.

We have already gotten 30 computers for the computer learning center, sewing machines, nets for their beds, bedding and sanitary supplies to help these girls, who have nothing, live and grow into contributing and healthy members of their society.

If you would like to donate $10, please let me know and I will send you a note with the address to send your donations to. I will send you a receipt for your donation and we are compiling a list of all donators that will be placed on the wall of the home.

If you would like more information about us, you can go to www.tumainisafehouse.org. Thank you, for your consideration!

Alright, tribe, I have a question: When on a plane, or any other public transportation, what are your thoughts about talking to other passengers? Would you insist if they were sleeping? How about reading a book? I'm cool if it's mutual, but isn't it common courtesy to let someone be if they're giving clear signals that they're not into it?

I'm going to be on as a guest in about 20 minutes and you can listen to it live at www.980WCAP.com and there is a button on that site to "Listen Live". You have to have Internet Explorer to listen and I'd love your support for my pal, Casey. The show goes live in the next few minutes for an hour.

Hey +Bruce Garber, I'm not thinking that we're going to be able to get Maureen's interview done tomorrow- the bandwidth is just too sketchy. We've fought it all week. However, I DO have another guy named Casey McNeal who is available at 3:00 EST and he's going to be great, much like Kelli. He's a speaker, author, radio host and former comedian, as well. I love this guy and we're the best of friends. He's actually having me on his radio show (in Boston) tomorrow at noon. Let me know if that time still works for you.

I've shared information with many of you about my friend, +MOUREEN WAIRIMU Mathenge, in Northern Uganda, who is deeply connected to the children in Africa who have been abducted by Joseph Kony. I'm sharing some of the information from the emails that we have sent back and forth to each other in hopes of letting you see what is going on and, hopefully, they will activate you to connect more deeply and personally in some way. Maureen is one woman, doing what she can to make a difference in this world. One woman. I hope to introduce you to her this weekend on +Hangin' with Jennifer , if we can get our bandwidth issues figured out. I would love it if you would welcome her into the G+ Community and connect with her to find out the true story of what is really going on with the LRA.

Our emails from last week, which you may find enlightening:

MAUREEN: Good Morning from Africa. I've read your article about Uganda and realise that i was in tears, just knowing that you care so much for the African Child. Im a Kenyan who do outreach work in Nothern Uganda. By the Grace of God, i have helped 50 young girl who were abducted and forced to be child soldiers by Kony's men. They managed to escape, some pregnant and some have children, but i thank God coz they really have the zeal to move on and go back to school. I have 4 of them join university next month.

MAUREEN: Today i'll be teaching over 300 girls and young women on how to deal with your past pains, forgiveness and self esteem. Ignorance here is a major problem and over 90% of this women and girls don't know even 1% of their rights, they think being forced into sex slavery, early marriages and luck of education is part of life. I have women and men over 20yrs old and don't even know how to write their own names or say the alphabets. Its a very hard thing i do, but seeing them accepting change and living positively gives me the strength to wake up every morning. There's no court on Earth not even the ICC can give this children justice they so desire. The least that can be done is to have Kony arrested and put a stop to this crimes aganist humanity. Kony must pay for goodness sake.

JEN: There are a lot of people that say that the LRA is not an issue/problem anymore and has been eradicated for the last two years. I would really like these people to hear, first hand, about what you are dealing with.

MAUREEN: The presence of the LRA is still a major problem, children are abducted day in day out, they cannot be silenced totaly when Kony is still alive and demands to be in power. You cannot claim you've destroyed a tree by cutting it down. It will sprout again unless you cut down and destroy its roots. Kony is the root of The LRA, He'l always be a thorn in the flesh. Im willing to share our story and experience, and hope that our voices will be heard. Thank you so much Jennifer for your concern and help. We really do appreciate. Thanks a lot.

MAUREEN: Hi, i've got great news. Yesterday i was able to secure 4 positions in a private school in Kenya for my 4 ex childsoldiers. The immigration officer allowed them to travel to Kenya on short notice. Right now im taking a 10hrs road trip from Nothern Uganda to Western Kenya which boaders Eastern Uganda. Im so happy for this great breakthrough. We will share more tonite. Have a gd nyte. God bless.___

Hey everyone, I've got some really exciting news!!!

I have a friend who lives in Northern Uganda and she houses, educates and, even, exiles former child soldiers from the LRA who have been kidnapped and forced into positions to mutilate, murder, rape, and prostitute in the name of Joseph Kony's army. #KONY2012.

Well, (here's the exciting part) she's agreed to be interviewed on +Hangin' with Jennifer tomorrow, Saturday, March 16th! I know that many of you have wondered if the KONY2012 is hype or a real threat. Tomorrow, we will have a courageous woman, who is on the front line, describing the very real and very current threat of Joseph Kony's destruction to the African people in the region. Please keep your eyes on the stream for the OnAir Hangout Saturday afternoon-- we're going to try to open up the Hangout to all of you to discuss what is going on and... more »

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a couple thoughts from my friend, Maureen Greatness, in Africa. I'm hoping to get her onto a +Hangin' with Jennifer episode very soon so that you get to hear her story, first hand. I'm also hoping that we can do an after show hangout so that you can all talk to Maureen and get her thoughts, ideas and opinions about what's really happening.

Regardless of all the negative stuff that you think you know about what's going on with #KONY2012, I'd encourage you to read this small message from a woman who is solely responsible for rehabbing several of the children who escaped Kony's army. Please read her message:

"Im a Kenyan who do outreach work in Nothern Uganda. By the Grace of God, i have helped 50 young girl who were abducted and forced to be child soldiers by Kony's men. They managed to escape, some pregnant and some... more »

"Im a Kenyan who do outreach work in Nothern Uganda. By the Grace of God, i have helped 50 young girl who were abducted and forced to be child soldiers by Kony's men. They managed to escape, some pregnant and some have children, but i thank God coz they really have the zeal to move on and go back to school. I have 4 of them join university next month. Today i'll be teaching over 300 girls and young women on how to deal with your past pains, forgiveness and self esteem. Kony must pay for goodness sake."___

Happy Belated Birthday, +Shefali Burns -- this is just beautiful!

My Birthday Wish

Today is my birthday, not a milestone birthday, but a birthday nonetheless. Normally I would buy myself a new spring outfit, or a couple of crystals, or a few books. But this year, I realized that I don’t really need another spring outfit or crystals or books. I would like them for sure, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t need them.

I am very blessed and grateful for the life that I have. I am blessed with two healthy children that I love more than anything and am fortunate that they love me as well. I am blessed to have family and friends who I love and am very close to and can count on for anything. I am blessed to have someone special in my life who loves me and who I love in return. I am healthy, I have a good job, I own my home, I have two cars, I always have food in the fridge and cupboards. I am not lacking for anything materially or otherwise.

But I do have a wish for my birthday. I wish that we could find a cure for cancer, so that my mother and others like her do not have to suffer. I wish that we could find a cure for Crohn’s and Colitis Disease so that my friend’s son and others like him do not have to suffer. I wish that we could find a cure for mental illness so that the many people who are suffering with it do not take their own lives or suffer in silence. All in all, I wish that we could end all types of suffering.

So today, please donate if you can to my charity of choice, or your own. I will match whatever contributions made to Crowdrise. Or please share this post so that others can donate. Please smile at someone or give someone a hug today, anything to brighten someone’s day.

People are always telling me that they want world peace. But honestly, peace starts with one person, you, find peace within and you will be able to share it with the world. That is how we will attain world peace.

Thank you all from the deepest part of my heart ♥♥♥♥♥♥

Have a wonderful day filled with light, love, laughter, and peace ♥

Alright, so, I was told to do this and I felt like a complete fool until... It worked!!! So, go grab your broom and stand it up on its own. This is no joke. Apparently, we're going through some sort of solar activity that is allowing this to happen. Way cool!!

Three years ago, I had the pleasure of spending a month in Uganda.
Three years ago, my eyes were opened.
Opened wide.

Never before had I seen the purity and transparency in the eyes of another human being, like I did when I was in the presence of these beautiful, soulful people. I was warned that my time in Africa would make me an African and that I would struggle when I returned home. But, THAT, as simple as it sounded, wasn’t the true struggle I would face; the struggle would be in holding onto the African in me, even though the western brainwashing of money, power, status, and blindness would eventually threaten the purity and transparency that crept into MY soul.

Three years ago, I had the pleasure of spending a month in Uganda.
Three years ago, my eyes were opened.

The journey of thousands of miles hit me radically, like being awoken by a blasting marching band, as we landed at 6AM to the most brilliant sunrise of varying shades of vibrant oranges, shocking pinks and a deep blue sky that, to this day, I have never seen anything like. Stepping into the Kampala airport terminal, I was greeted by dozens of Ugandan strangers, (one who even hugged me!) who were there to meet THEIR friends and family who were on the same flight. They didn’t know me. They didn’t owe me. They just loved me. I knew immediately, something special was already happening here.

My speaking tour allowed me to touch tens of thousands of people through live events, and, eventually, the entire country through television and radio. When I started my journey, the plan was to educate, guide and inform, but it quickly became about elevating, motivating and inspiring. I had NEVER, in over a decade of speaking, been faced with audiences who were hungrier, more on fire to improve their lives or more transparent about creating change. These people shared their hearts, their souls, their families, their dreams… some even shared their homes with me. I was given meals that were prepared with more love and kindness than I had ever experienced-- and it cost them a month’s salary, just to have me as their guest. I was horrified and guilt-ridden at the thought (and, had a massive loss of appetite) but was reminded of the great honor this was and that grace and appreciation were needed, not guilt and embarrassment.

The message I spoke quickly became RISE UP, UGANDA.
Rise Up against your past. Rise Up for your future. Rise Up against atrocities. Rise Up for your country. Rise Up for your children. Rise Up for your dreams. Rise Up for your rights. Rise Up for your brothers and sisters. Rise Up for your community. Rise Up for your beliefs.
RISE UP.
I heard it from the mouths of strangers as I passed. I heard it spoken in conversations that I wasn’t a part of. I felt it in every fiber of my being. It was as much a part of me as the blood running through my veins. I have never been more filled with pride and astonishment at what I had become a part of. Something magical happened on my journey.

And then I went home.
Back to the rat-race. Back to the political BS. Back to over-scheduling and fighting to earn a buck. Back to McMansions, SUV’s, Louis Vuitton’s, and ridiculous celebrity worshipping.
I was an African, trapped.
They had been right.
I no longer fit.

I was disgusted by the blindness of those around me. Disappointed at the apathy. Completely discouraged by the lack of action of those that I solicited to join me. But, mostly, I was sickened by the wastefulness, over-spending and gluttony. Didn’t they know? Couldn’t they see? Why didn’t they GET IT?

I fought and fought… I swear I did. But, at some point, I got tired. I’m not sure when the exact moment was. There wasn’t a decision or a point that marked it. Somehow, I fell back into the western groove and lost the fire.
The African in me was gone.

I’m embarrassed to write this. I’m disgusted by my own weakness. The great machine is a powerful one… and, crafty as hell. How could I have let this happen? To my friends in Uganda, I’m terribly sorry. Terribly, terribly sorry.

But, today, the African in me has awoken, again.

Thanks to my eleven year old niece, Lexi, I was encouraged to watch the #KONY2012 video and I saw my babies. MY babies. The ones that inspired my journey to Africa and kept my fire burning for months after my return. MY babies that are being taken, tortured, brain-washed and ruined. MY babies that are being turned into machines, trained to kill. MY babies that are being prostituted at ages as young as seven and eight.
MY BABIES.

Here’s the thing, they’re YOUR BABIES, TOO.
For 20 years these atrocities have been happening. For 20 years children have been stolen from their families. For 20 years parents have been murdered, castrated and raped in front of their children and left to die. For 20 years children have been brutally mutilated. For 20 years children have been running and hiding, just to survive. For 20 years children have been hunted.
FOR TWENTY YEARS.

How can we have not known?
How could we have known and done nothing?
How can I have known and “forgotten”?

So, I’ve got a favor—watch this video that I’m attaching and DO SOMETHING. I know, “who am I to ask you for a favor?”. Well, I’m nobody, except maybe a fired up white chick with a red hot African soul, but more than that, I’m really nobody.
But, from another perspective, I’m their mom. I’m your sister. They’re your kids. It’s your family, too. Which, simply, means, it’s our human responsibility to RISE UP.

We have turned our heads for too long. We have been blind and asleep and it’s time to wake up. We cannot pretend this doesn’t exist. This world is one that we have to be proud to pass on… and, honestly, I’m not proud of what’s going on here. Or, pretty much anywhere, for that matter. Over there, over here-- there’s no difference. I want to leave this place better than when I arrived. I want my nieces and nephews to be better than my generation, which means, I have to show them what that looks like. I want the next generation to have a little African in them.
These are OUR babies. This is OUR world. The time is now.

In Lugandan, Belief is translated as Oku kariza.
I believe.
Do you?
RISE UP.
