Think my rear camera broke.

Anyone know of any fixes I could try? Looks like Huawei took down their repair page, so I might be waiting for those new HTC phones to come out.

Is there an equivalent timer app on Android?

I've seen this timer be very useful to other folks in the teaching field, but I'd love to use my phone instead of my iPad, if I can.

Does anyone know if there's an equivalent app on Android?

Thanks!

Voice search for ALL those apps?

I took the plunge and got an +NVIDIA Shield TV, and let me say, I really dig it. It's fast, has a great layout, and doesn't look too shabby in the entertainment center.

However, when I use the voice search, I can't get it to search Hulu, despite having the app installed and being logged in.

Is there something I'm missing, maybe a feature I need to enable? And what's up with no Netflix voice support?

Any Shield users out there who know how to get this rocking? Thanks!

Lazy gPlus time: Does anyone know how to use these weird command blahblah Linux stuff so I can run multiple websites off of one droplet?

So, I want to run a Ghost blog, but it says I need node.js and providers providing that service are pretty small, but +DigitalOcean is one and they seem pretty nice and affordable.

However, they said I need to do some business with nginx and blahblah, they sent me a link, but I don't understand any of it, cause I'm noob.

Anyway, any Linux people out there make sense of it? I'm very curious (and excited), but I know I'll be spending all weekend trying to make this work.

Best wearable to sync into Google Fit?

Hello, everyone! Been a while since I've posted, but I figure y'all are the most knowledgeable about Google Fit.

Alittle about my wearable/tracking apps: I used to be a Fitbit person, way back in the days of the little clip that you put in your pocket, but haven't used Fitbit in quite some time.

Currently, I'm using a combination of Endomondo, Lose It, Withings, and Google Fit to track calories burned/consumed, weight, and exercise.

I was wondering what the best wearable would be to perhaps track steps during the day (to loop into my other metrics) that can sync into Google Fit.

I know Withings themselves have a little wearable deal, I just didn't know if that was the best.

I've looked at the various Android Wear watches, but even the 'sportiest' one, the Moto 360 Sport, is a whopping $300! That's pretty steep, especially considering it's reviews are pretty lukewarm.

At any rate, just looking to add another (and final?) piece to my cobbled together fitness tracking system and was hoping y'all could suggest what would best fit.

Thanks!___

Definitely uninstalling Chromer now.

Shared post says it all.

Seems like there were some weird, ethical transgress on the part of both developers (Anticipate was originally inspired by Chromer?), but if Chromer did indeed lift lots of open source code, I'd rather support the app that originally had the code.

Installing Anticipate, Play Store link below.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pluscubed.anticipate

It's clear that +Arunkumar took code from my open source project Anticipate for his closed source project Chromer. The changelog for the latest version looked suspiciously similar to the work I've done for Anticipate - improving setting the default app, dynamic toolbar color, pre-fetch using an accessibility service, etc etc, so I started to investigate. The decompiled code matches up with mine.

He accused me of stealing his idea when I published Anticipate, and I'll admit, I'm not much of an ideas guy. That's why I often contribute to projects like +Aidan Follestad's. However, I did see a project which could be improved, and put my own spin on it.  I came up with my own idea on how to implement it with an accessibility service that pre-loads links, built the app entirely from the ground up, and open-sourced it so others can improve on it. I don't mind people taking my code & learning from them - however, the license on my project is GPLv3, which means anyone who does so must open source their projects as well. It's this kind of behavior by Arun that discourages me and others from open sourcing our works & decreases our motivation in developing apps. I hope Arun will correct his actions by open sourcing his work & giving proper credit.

The album is some of the technical evidence (I explain them in the captions) - you can decompile the APK using dex2jar and use jd-gui to see all the copied code as well. Anticipate's source code is here - https://github.com/plusCubed/anticipate.

I don't particularly care that he copied specifically the following code - I just chose some of the more obvious examples. While Arun copied and moved some code around, and changed them as he needed to fit his app, the architecture and techniques are identical.

Why did I spend all of that time writing this? I would much rather be doing something else - heck, this code isn't even all that precious, complicated, or significant anyway in both of these extremely simple apps compared to my other projects. Arun clearly has the technical talent as well. I want to expose this because it is wrong - making your app closed source, and stealing other's open source work, licensed with the terms that anyone who uses the code will open source their app, is wrong, no matter how insignificant. As I wrote above, I sincerely hope that, Arun, you can correct your mistakes by open sourcing your app & giving credit.

Closing this, I would like to say that the only purpose of this post is for Arun to review his mistakes. The users will still keep using Chromer regardless - most users don't care about the app's origin as long as the app is usable. Chromer started with a great idea, inspiring mine, and just became too greedy.___Definitely uninstalling Chromer now.

Can this USB Type-C cable be trusted?!

So, I was looking at the excellent list by +Benson Leung this morning, and it originally had this Cable Matters cable up.

By the time I'd gotten to my computer, though, it had been removed! Is this a mistake, or does the Cable Matters cable not make the cut?

Thanks, people in the know!

Best fitness tracker/health wearable/whatever?

Just saw a Facebook (gasp!) ad for the new Microsoft Band.

I used to be a Fitbit person (before they had cool, wearable watch-type stuff), and since I didn't really take to a plain step tracker, then a Misfit Shine person, then I couldn't justify a pretty pedometer, so I bailed.

These newfangled wearable trackers look like they typically offer more features (heart rate tracking, do they connect as a heart rate monitor via Bluetooth?), little digital screens, etc.

What do y'all think are the better ones, either because of cost, features, bang for the buck, etc? Would love to hear of your experiences, good or bad!

Also, Google Fit sync would be great, but isn't a deal breaker, as most of my actual, scheduled exercise gets synced in via Endomondo.

So, what do you get out of +Android TV?

Look, I'm about as big of a Google fanboy as they come, but I've still never been able to justify an Android TV purchase

Best case for the Nexus 6P?

Looking at Google Store options right now, but also looking at some less expensive thin cases (like the ADOPTED case) on Amazon, too.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Went with the ADOPTED case. The 6P Case is beautiful, but I want something thin(ner), rather than bulky.

Steam Link or +NVIDIA GameStream?

When the NVIDIA Shield Tablet game out, I thought GameStream was the deal. I picked up an extra controller so me and the girlfriend could play together, and it was good.

Now we're living in a different place and it's a wee bit harder to run an Ethernet cable to the living room, plus keeping the battery charged on the tablet is kind of a pain.

(Still great for +Nerd and Laser transactions, though!)

I've been eyeing the Shield TV, since it's so powerful, I already have two controllers, etc. The kicker is the initial investment price!

In walks the Steam Link, people say it works pretty darn well, and it'll work with Xbox controllers, to boot!

Anyone have any strong opinions either way? To go the Steam Link route, I'd need to pick up the wireless adapter deal + somec... more »

Anyone have any strong opinions either way? To go the Steam Link route, I'd need to pick up the wireless adapter deal + some controllers, which would cost.

If not, I have to pick up an NVIDIA Shield TV, which will also cost.

Just looking for the best bang for my buck! Thanks, everyone!___

SIGNAL BOOST!

For the evening crowd.

Best options for online store: Round 2

So, as I think about what launch inventory I want to have, there's the obvious time for speculation about the best way to sell online.

Previously, with Android Etch, I was using SquareSpace, but I know there's also a number of different sites (Wix, Shopify, etc.) that offer similar-but-different experiences.

Then there's also the self-hosted option, using something like Wordpress + Divi + plugnis or whatever, or Drupal/something else like OpenCart.

What I would love, eventually, would be to offer a Moto Maker-esque experience, where you pick your material/product (pint glass, wood panel, rocks glass, etc.), pick your design, and then it auto-adds that  to your cart.

Could maybe even add an 'Upload artwork' option to that, too, so people can easily order custom stuff.

Anyone know of an easy way to do that, or will it need to be custom built, from the ground up?

As always, thanks for your smarts!___SIGNAL BOOST!
