Jim Jordan and Darrell Issa now put that number closer to 500.  If it was just these four agents, they’d have to have been rather, er, productive.  Besides, if it was just four agents in one office, Lerner wouldn’t have spent two years trying to massage the process to make it look less partisan — she would have told the four to knock it off in 2011, and the IRS chief counsel would have insisted on it when notified in August 2011.

Why might Lerner have been motivated to let the harassment continue? Maybe the connections at her husband’s law firm might provide an answer:]

The move comes after questions were raised about the seizure of Associated Press phone records by the Justice Department as part of a national security leak investigation.

Shield laws protect journalists from being forced to reveal sources. The version that passed the Judiciary Committee in 2009 included exemptions for national security.

It is odd that private business, which is the cause of all evil, routinely goes through contractions without pissing off their customers [deliberately] - anyone that has worked in the real world for any amount of time has been through one or more of the 'cut your budget by 5%'  or worse - and we do it and move on.

I guess government is so ultra efficient that there is not a discretionary penny that can be saved, so they pressure their customers to get more money to become even more efficient ... that makes my head hurt.
