To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.

#autoawesome appears to work beautifully. This is a series of images I am using for a timelapse project - just wanted to check out this new motion feature and see what all the hubbub is about.
Taken in #Portland #Oregon During 2013 Cinco De Mayo Festival.
Tip : It took roughly an hour or so for this to appear in the album so be patient after you upload. Eventually it will process it and you'll see a moving image in the series somewhere. Mine was mixed in the middle of all the photos.
Looking forward to seeing more of this. Excellent work +Vic Gundotra +Google+ Photos +Bradley Horowitz +Ujjwal Singh and all others!

Welcome to the NEW Flickr
Well it seems that +Yahoo! was not done being in the headlines after this mornings announcement that it was going to acquire the popular blogging website Tumblr for 1.1 billion. Today in a press conference, Yahoo announced the NEW Flickr. Here are the three biggest changes...
- 1TB of storage for all accounts (including the Free accounts)
- You can now upload full resolution photos
- More access to Flickr to uploaded from any mobile device
The service also got a pretty significant face-lift So, the question remains...
Is this enough for you to give Flickr a try (or retry for most of us)?

This week's most popular post:
Portraits of Angelina Jolie Captured by Brad Pitt
http://bit.ly/17YcsTP
It is a little known fact that Brad Pitt can hold his own behind a camera. Not just any camera, mind you, but an old school film model. A November 2008 issue of W magazine originally published a photo spread of Pitt’s work shooting his lovely wife, Angelina Jolie, and the photographs have resurfaced recently on Reddit. Lomography.com says that at the time, W’s Creative Director Dennis Freedman was looking fro a fresh and different perspective of one of the most photographed women in the world for the November 2008 issue. The answer to that couldn’t come closer to home, Angelina’s home that is. “I was surprised that Brad accepted the challenge,” remembers Freedman as Brad Pitt enthusiastically volunteered for the assignment.

I think this is a common misconception amongst both new photographers and the public at large. Not everyone believes this of course, but I think it’s more widespread in today’s world given the reliance on digital technology.
It’s so easy to make good photographs with today's cameras, but for me great photography is about connecting emotionally with the viewer. That can only come from vision and commitment.

This is a wonderful workflow presentation by +Robert Rodriguez Jr. And Robert is using Adobe Lightroom 5 (beta) to demonstrate that workflow.
The application looks solid. With a few new features and improvements to current features, like the Advanced Healing Brush and Improved Photo Book Creation.
I am still debating if I would download it onto my MAC

I'm rummaging through my phone snaps, and I thought some of you might enjoy this behind-the-scene view of what it looks like when +Barry Blanchard makes a seascape photo.
+Paul Porter, +Francesco Gola, and +Luca Gerardi also joined us out in the waves for some seascape fun, that evening. I hope we can all get together and shoot again, soon.
A lot of people make half-hearted efforts for their photos, because they don't want to get wet / dirty / tired / whatever. And it shows in their pictures. Here, Barry demonstrates admirable doggedness to get the best shot he can, regardless what's involved.
(One of the top five or so things I look for, in someone worth shooting with regularly, is is a willingness to do what it takes to get the shot.)

The inspiration for What Work Is arose from an interest in Parker Shoes, a shoe repair shop located on E. 18th St, in Paterson, NJ where I was raised.
It began as an investigation on this space, its patrons, the owner, the ebb and flow of this place that has survived and continues to thrive on E. 18th since 1920. For me I tried to find parallels between that and an immigrant’s family experience.

This is honestly one of my top 3 favorite interviews that I have done.
I think the blog has been helpful in getting people to find me and getting to know me, absolutely.
However, the blog can only get me so far and the rest has to be the work I deliver for clients. But the blog has been an amazing calling card for me and my business ...

We all need that person in our lives that will be brutally honest. It’s what keeps the artist both grounded and striving to be more. But always remember to embrace your uniqueness. And always be the person — people want to work with.

I have been shooting for about 15 months. And I have never shot JPEG. Why? Because I was always told RAW is the only way to go.
And now Tahir Hashmi makes an excellent argument on why shooting JPEG, professionally, is totally acceptable.
And in some cases preferred. What are your thoughts?

Looking for a Dropbox Alternative? Check out "Copy"
This morning I came across a new company called "Copy" that is looking to get pretty aggressive in competing with the likes of Dropbox. Like Dropbox, you get to place a folder on your computer/laptop and have all of the files placed in that folder sync both to the cloud and any other computer you install the Copy application. While I love Google Drive, I like having a folder to sync on my computer.
So why did I sign up for yet another online cloud hosting service?
Two main reasons....
- Right out of the bat your get 15gb of space (with an extra 5gb as a special)
- There are NO file size limits, unlike Dropbox and many other cloud services. I can easily share 2gb files if I wanted. This to me is the best selling point.
Its free, you get 20gbs of free space and no... more »

Say hello to the new Google+!
A quick tour of what you're about to (or just) see(ing)
It baffles me how quickly and unilaterally Google is rolling out massive updates to its social network. With each new update, Google+ helps you find and interact with more and more content. This update is no different. Frankly, it's putting facebook to serious shame. Announced at Google IO today, I made a simple slideshow so you can check out the new experience you're about to have here!

I appreciate +Google's dedication to making our +Google+ experience better. But what I am truly found of is Google's dedication to photography.
And this is not because photographers like +Trey Ratcliff are friends of Google. Nor because Trey is in over 5 million Circles. Or is it :-)
But seriously, it's because images are crucially important to us -- to you -- to me. They freeze, in time, memories that years from now will still makes us smile and laugh.

Analysis shows that it's not how long your article is, but how much you engage with readers!
Fast Company set out to discover whether longer articles attracted readers better. The answer was a resounding: sort of!
Yes, longer stories attract readers. But only if they become long over time. Let me explain.
Fast Company discovered that readership and reader engagement with a story goes through the roof when a story is "updated" again and again as new information comes to light. The story becomes this living thing that builds and which readers return to.
As +Mathew Ingram rightly says: "There are lessons in there not just for new-media players but for traditional media outlets that are trying to find a recipe for success online as well."
I would take it even further. This is a lesson for bloggers and social media con... more »
