GRAND PRIZE Winner at the 2012 Scuba Diving International Photo Competition.
The last years I have won many prizes and awards in some of the best competitions around the world, competing with excellent photographers, some of them dear friends, with stunning photographs and new ideas, and for each one of those prizes I am very proud and happy.
This year when I was choosing photographs from my portfolio for the 8th Annual Photo Competition of Scuba Diving Magazine was very confident about my wide angle - close focus seahorse photograph that took this summer in Chalkidiki and somehow I expected to be awarded.
About a month ago the biggest shock was the announcement that I was one of the two finalists for the Grand Prize with the open cave split shot with a diver, not because I like this photograph less, but because I was betting on the seahorse and all this was extremely huge! After s... more »

Dendrophyllia ramea is one of the most impressive yellow corals in the Mediterranean waters. This one is the first ever reported in the Greek waters, found by my friend Konstantinos Milionis in only 40m depth in Korinthiakos gulf. I was hoping to find the coral with the polyps fully expanded but even this way coral is so unique and graceful that it is hard to shoot instead of admiring it.

It is never too late to join the elite in a sport!! All it takes is passion, commitment in practice and in this case a coach willing to start over with an athlete in age that other athletes finish their careers. My fully respect to finswimmer Pavlos Bapkas that joined finswimming club KOK at the age of 24 and even more to his coach Viki Tsikli that believes in every single athlete and gives her effort and her love to all of them.

It takes years of preparation for an athlete to achieve the best results in a championship or in a single race. The critical seconds followed after the finish, with eyes looking straight at the timeboard is when the athlete realizes success or failure. Then the rage and the celebration are separated by a thin line...

Finswimming is one of the most dynamic water sports and the closest you can get to a dolphin’s swim. Even when they train in high speeds the movement stays smooth, the swimmers flow in the water and shooting them underwater is incredible.

I am very happy to announce that I am between the winners of the fourth International Underwater Photography Contest City of Venice - Citta' di Venezia. The contest is annually organized by the divers and members of the Underwater Club Subacqueo San Marco and Underwater Research. My photo of a tiny hydromedusa Pandea conica won the first prize on the Mediterranean Macro Category.
