Got my eye on you, sunshine

Out with camera for a little while today, looking for mojo in strange places, but only finding trees and slugs. On balance, I'll take the slugs ;)
Well, maybe found a little mojo, it was nice to get out shooting, certainly ;)

I am mentally limbering up for the next round of +Chrysta Rae's Photography Scavenger Hunt, since I sat the one in March out (albums currently being revealed over on Chrysta's page - which is where I'm headed next ;) )

Delicate

Those of you who have followed +kimberton pemberly for a while (and it's been since waaay back for me) will know how much riotous fun there is to be had in her post comments. Sometimes, the snark level present in there (in a good way) makes it almost possible to overlook the absolute stunning, delicate, beauty of her macro shots. A photographic angel, to be sure. OK, with added snark. And unicorns. Knows a thing or two about railroad safety too ;)

Those of you who have followed Kim for a while will probably also know that she has been going through a very tough time with her health.

Thanks to super thoughtful mystery ringleaders ;)  people are getting together today to put some photographic cheer into her stream. I had good fortune to read about it on a day off, so I was more than happy to be able to take this (and put in some texture) in full mind that... more »

Week 17/52 for the #52selfs project (on The Art of Self Portraiture community)

This was an outtake of my Christmas Scavenger Hunt album, for 'glitter' natch :) Although it's cropped in a little, I liked the slight abstraction that results. BTW, also petroleum jelly works great as a temporary glue, getting this stuff off is a total bitch - add glitter and it becomes a very abrasive exfoliant - Smooth skin the next day though ;)

A solitary surviving tree trunk from a campaign of deforestation near Newmachar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland,  with a little decoration to cheer it up :)
(this was actually an unused shot for the 'ribbon' category of the Christmas Scavenger Hunt round).

Each Time, I Die a Little Inside

I'm pretty sure this one has to be one of my California State Fair entries, and I've decided that just for fun, I'm going to give away a copy of each one I choose to submit.  So, look for a couple of others in the next day or so (the deadline is Friday)

So if you'd like to have this on your wall - for free, anywhere in the world that I can legally ship to - I have but two rules:
One - comment on this thread.  I use random.org to generate numbers, and it's just a halluva lot easier if I have to pull names from one place.

Evening everyone, just playing around with a Snapseed edit of an older black and white shot. Must admit, much as I love Lightroom, there is something quite therapeutic about spending 15 minutes or so using the touch interface to directly edit an image into something aesthetically pleasing. Happy to let you share some of my self therapy ;)

Sunshine through the mind's bedroom window

3 feather shot for this week's Feathers mini-theme of #macromonday (+Kerry Murphy +Kelli Seeger Kim +Jennifer Eden +Jake Easley)

These feathers are all from our menagerie, the right from our blue-fronted Amazon parrot, then left two from one of our Rosellas.  The two 'curtains' were stuck into a polystyrene sheet, and the 'sun' was hand held a few inches behind to get it out of focus, with lighting via off camera flash. This was an unused shot for the 'Feather' category in one of the Scavenger Hunts last year.

When I was walking up towards Prop of Ythsie, Aberdeenshire, last weekend (see a few posts ago) I was absolutely chuffed to bits to find barbed wire, but not just any barbed wire. Oh no. Blue anodised barbed wire.
As in, a company makes wire where they already know about my penchant for turquoisey processing, saving me all that time split toning in Lightroom lol ;)

Self Defence

Morning all :)  

Made it to the Prop of Ythsie yesterday, near Tarves, Aberdeenshire, Scotland - eventually (missed the turn off so 10 mins extra walk - I can do with the exercise, so no problem lol).  Nice to walk up to, and the view of the countryside from the top is beautiful, but was blowing a pretty ferocious wind so had to stand in between wind direction and tripod for added stability :)

50sec long exposure with ND 3.0 filter. Processing in Lightroom 4 / Photoshop Elements 10.  So glad this came out, as it was a first time for an architectural LE shot for me :)

The Prop of Ythsie

(now that I know what it is, thanks +Andie L from my previous post!)

The Prop of Ythsie is a tower near Tarves, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, that was erected in 1861 as a memorial to George Hamilton Gordon, owner of the nearby Haddo estate and also a short-lived British Prime Minister during the Crimean War.
