'empire building' by George Bush.

He answered by saying,
"Over the years, the United States has sent many of
its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom
beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for
in return is enough to bury those that did not
return."
You

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a conference in France
where a number of international engineers
were taking part, including French and American. During a break,
one of the French engineers came back into the room saying, "Have you
heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft
carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
intend to do, bomb them?"
A Boeing engineer
stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers have three
hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are
nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to
shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to
feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand
gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a
dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and
from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships;
how many does France have?"
You
could have heard a pin drop.
A U.S. Navy Admiral
was attending a naval conference that included
Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large
group of officers that included personnel from most of those countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a
French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many
languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, "Why is it that
we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than
speaking French?"
Without hesitating,
the American Admiral replied, "Maybe it's because the
Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't
have to speak German."
You
could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

AND
THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE...

Robert Whiting,
an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in his carry on.

"You
have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked
sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting
admitted that he had been to France
previously..

"Then
you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said,
"The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible..
Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !"

The American senior
gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in
1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen
to show a passport to."

You
could have heard a pin drop.

If
you are proud to be an American, pass this on! If not, delete it.

I am proud to be of this land, AMERICA___

My Selfish Ole Skool Generation
Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.
The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days."
The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."
She was right -- our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.
Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our school books. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribbling's. Then we were able to personalize our books. But too bad we didn't do the green thing back then.
We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right; we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?

Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smart ass young person.___

let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
was asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
To rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
What does it mean?

A.
Well .. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman and child)
You each get $516,528

B.
Or... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.
Or... If you are a family of four...
Your family gets $2,066,012.

The University of West Virginia in Morgantown for the last forty some years.

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons of gas a year.
So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.
The government claims 700,000 clunkers have been replaced so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.
That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.
5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.
More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars.
So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.
We spent $8.57 for every $1.00... more »

We spent $8.57 for every $1.00 we saved.

I'm pretty sure they will do a better job with our health care, though.___

A new low for the highest office in the nation!!! Is this what we really want from our President of the USA ? Is this not Racism at the highest level?

Seriously—REALLY SERIOUSLY—what do YOU think would have happened IF a Caucasian President had ever produced and published a You Tube Video for ALL WHITE PEOPLE to unite for a WHITE PRESIDENT…Seriously, what do you think would have happened…

In my opinion, this is the MOST SIGNIFICANT DEMONSTRATION of INTENTIONAL DIVISIVE RACISM by ANY PRESIDENT in the history of OUR COUNTRY that I recall having seen - THIS GOES OVER THE LINE FOR ME

Would you vote for a white person who did this? I wouldn't and I think they would be run right out of town if they tried it. This is just some food for thought if you're pondering your vote in November.

Can you imagine Santorum or Romney or Newt or Paul putting out a call for all the white brothers and sisters to vote for him because he's white and so are they?

If this video is not alarming to you, simply delete. If you are offended by what's taking place, please pass it on.

Going back in the archives to share a personal fav for #bridgewednesday , #travelpanowednesday , and #widewednesdaypanorama .

This is the Bixby Bridge along California's Bug Sur costline. This image was created from 24 handheld portrait-oriented photos (3 rows by 8 columns). Of course that created a humongous canvas to work with so I had plenty or room to crop for the composition that I wanted to create.

I shot all 24 exposures manually in attempt of balancing the dynamic range as best as I could. I used Hugin to stitch this together and I think it did a fantastic job of blending the exposures across the overlapping frames.

A "deadly" article regarding Obama, at the Wall Street Journal, which

today is the most widely circulated newspaper in America .

Article from the Wall Street Journal - by Eddie Sessions:

"I have this theory about Barack Obama. I think he's led a kind of

make-believe life in which money was provided and doors were opened

because at some point early on somebody or some group (George Soros

anybody?) took a look at this tall, good looking, half-white,

half-black, young man with an exotic African/Muslim name and

concluded he could be guided toward a life in politics where his facile

speaking skills could even put him in the White House.

In a very real way, he has been a young man in a very big hurry.

Who else do you know has written two memoirs before the age of 45?

"Dreams of My Father" was published in 1995 when he was only 34 years

old. The "Audacity of Hope" followed in 2006. If, indeed, he did

write them himself. There are some who think that his mentor and

friend, Bill Ayers, a man who calls himself a "communist with a small

'c'" was the real author.

His political skills consisted of rarely voting on anything that

might be deemed controversial.. He went from a legislator in the

Illinois legislature to the Senator from that state because he had

the good fortune of having Mayor Daley's formidable political machine

at his disposal.

He was in the U.S. Senate so briefly that his bid for the presidency

was either an act of astonishing self-confidence or part of some

greater game plan that had been determined before he first stepped

foot in the Capital.. How, many must wonder, was he selected to be a

2004 keynote speaker at the Democrat convention that nominated John

Kerry when virtually no one had ever even heard of him before?

He outmaneuvered Hillary Clinton in primaries. He took Iowa by

storm. A charming young man, an anomaly in the state with a very

small black population, he oozed "cool" in a place where agriculture

was the antithesis of cool. He dazzled the locals. And he had an

army of volunteers drawn to a charisma that hid any real substance.

And then he had the great good fortune of having the Republicans

select one of the most inept candidates for the presidency since Bob

Dole. And then John McCain did something crazy. He picked Sarah

Palin, an unknown female governor from the very distant state of

Alaska . It was a ticket that was reminiscent of 1984's Walter

Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro and they went down to defeat.

The mainstream political media fell in love with him. It was a

schoolgirl crush with febrile commentators like Chris Mathews swooning

then and now over the man. The venom directed against McCain and, in

particular, Palin, was extraordinary.

Now, nearly 3 full years into his presidency, all of those gilded

years leading up to the White House have left him unprepared to be

President.. Left to his own instincts, he has a talent for saying the

wrong thing at the wrong time. It swiftly became a joke that he

could not deliver even the briefest of statements without the

ever-present Tele-Prompters.

Far worse, however, is his capacity to want to "wish away" some

terrible realities, not the least of which is the Islamist intention

to destroy America and enslave the West. Any student of history

knows how swiftly Islam initially spread. It knocked on the doors of

Europe, having gained a foothold in Spain ...

The great crowds that greeted him at home or on his campaign "world

tour" were no substitute for having even the slightest grasp of

history and the reality of a world filled with really bad people with

really bad intentions.

Oddly and perhaps even inevitably, his political experience, a

cakewalk, has positioned him to destroy the Democrat Party's hold on

power in Congress because in the end it was never about the Party.

It was always about his communist ideology, learned at an early age

from family, mentors, college professors, and extreme leftist friends

and colleagues.

Obama is a man who could deliver a snap judgment about a Boston

police officer who arrested an "obstreperous" Harvard

professor-friend, but would warn Americans against "jumping to

conclusions" about a mass murderer at Fort Hood who shouted "Allahu

Akbar." The absurdity of that was lost on no one. He has since

compounded this by calling the Christmas bomber "an isolated extremist"

only to have to admit a day or two later that he was part of an al

Qaeda plot.

He is a man who could strive to close down our detention facility at

Guantanamo even though those released were known to have returned to

the battlefield against America . He could even instruct his

Attorney General to afford the perpetrator of 9/11 a civil trial when

no one else would ever even consider such an obscenity. And he is a

man who could wait three days before having anything to say about the

perpetrator of yet another terrorist attack on Americans and then

have to elaborate on his remarks the following day because his first

statement was so lame.

The pattern repeats itself. He either blames any problem on the Bush

administration or he naively seeks to wish away the truth.

Knock, knock. Anyone home? Anyone there? Barack Obama exists only

as the sock puppet of his handlers, of the people who have maneuvered

and manufactured this pathetic individual's life.

When anyone else would quickly and easily produce a birth

certificate, this man has spent over a million dollars to deny access

to his. Most other documents, the paper trail we all leave in our

wake, have been sequestered from review. He has lived a make-believe

life whose true facts remain hidden.

We laugh at the ventriloquist's dummy, but what do you do when the

dummy is President of the United States of America ?___

I'm just a simple sinner who received God's grace.

Pretty is as Pretty does but, Beautiful is just plain Beautiful..

SPA HOUSE
a project by Metropolis Design
hout bay, cape town, south africa, completed 2011
––––––––––––
Set on the mountainside on the urban edge of Hout Bay, overlooking the bay and harbour, surrounded by weathered sandstone formative. The primary design intention was to integrate the building with the powerful landscape and to derive its poetics from the qualities of its surroundings. The Spa House is separated from the principal residence by a berm, and is connected to it by foot paths.

The brief called for a place of entertainment and relaxation both for the client and his occasional guests, who would also be accommodated there. It incorporates swimming pools, guest accommodation, spa facilities and general living and poolside areas. The house is conceived of as a hovering set of elements, suspended over a large waterscape, which forms an extended terrace on the mountainside.

Water constitutes the primary experience of the building. The floor planes are arranged to provide contrasting experiences of water, and the underwater spa with large viewing windows into the pool has a sense of stillness and mystery. The guest accommodation block hovers dramatically over the water and projects into space towards the mountain and sea. The dining area is submerged below water level, and pool decks are arranged as islands in a sea of water, connected by a bridge.

The building masses are arranged in a dynamic composition, across and counter to the contours of the landscape. The building acts as a windbreak, protecting the pool from the south-easterly winds raking down the mountainside in summer. The ground floor opens up entirely to the landscape and the interior and exterior finishes are continuous, to minimise the distinction between inside and outside and enhance the experience of the building as a light platform in a vast landscape. Formally, the building comprises a number of separate sculptural forms in a dynamic composition. The base of the building, incorporating pools, relaxation rooms and guest accommodation is entirely of concrete. The superstructure is of steel construction, which is clad in afromosia shiplap boards on timber studwork.
