The storm that passed through here recently began with a single wave one evening. I couldn't get all of it into my lens.

Sometimes I'm considered to be a geek, simply because I am always tinkering with a computer in some way or another. But I know I'm not a geek, because I still can't understand how to install Debian. But I'm getting there.

The viewing room at The Grotto in Portland, Oregon has these massive panes of tempered glass. To the naked eye, they appear like normal glass. My camera sees this instead (no polarizer involved). I've enhanced it, but it is real.

The Weekend Share-a-thon
I'm sharing you!
Reply with a link to your best work and I'll share it!
(But READ the RULES below first)
So I went to my profile this morning and yesterday's post is just gone.
All those wonderful comments from you folks, all your plusses and shares … gone.
I'm really frustrated with this photo upload bug right now so I thought, instead of sharing my work and the liabilities involved with the current #GooglePlusUpdate , I will share your wonderful work until it's fixed.
Here are the RULES
1– Go to your best shot in the lightbox and copy the link in the address bar and put it in the comments here. if the link you've gathered ends in "posts" it will go directly to your profile stream, NOT the image and I won't be able to share your best shot. I won't spe... more »

It never fails when I look at an impression in sand, whether it be a footprint or a crater on Mars, my first recognition is convex rather than concave. I see it as a relief when I should see it as a depression. This was at Cannon Beach, Oregon on the evening of May 4.

For #sacredsunday #sacredartsunday
From The Grotto in Portland, Oregon. I've always wondered why Mary Magdalene has been smeared and vilified by Christian dogma giving her the status of a whore, but this portrayal of her in a sculpture was just fascinating to view.

"The National Sanctuary of our Sorrowful Mother, popularly known as The Grotto, is a Catholic shrine and sanctuary in Portland, Oregon, United States."

Mari was delighted to have me see it, and I loved the tour (though I am not at all religious, it was a beautiful place). But it was so sad to see this statue of Joseph and the infant Jesus beheaded by vandals. Who could do such a thing?

I've eaten a lot of fish and chips in my life, from the worst to the best. But I have never seen a plate arrive with a lemon wedge as pathetic as this one. It was a good thing I don't ever use them. Topping this disappointment, the fish was cold. Sure, the place was busy and it was Sunday evening, but that's no excuse for whoever gave this to my plate of food.
Mo's is terribly famous for their clam chowder. Now they can also be famous for how they handle a true rush crowd.

Two surprising events merged this past weekend at Cannon Beach, Oregon. First, it was over 80 degrees all weekend. Simply unheard of for the northern Oregon Coast in May.
Apparently heat also overcame the swarming carpenter ants, as they outnumbered beach-going humans by millions. When they finally extracted themselves from the surf's edge, they started a migration across the sand directly into the oncoming wind, trying to dry their wings as they marched. Such an amazing thing to watch, they were absolutely everywhere.

+Mari Garris and I had a wonderful vacation over this past weekend. Our first real stop was at Multnomah Falls, where I found this professional photographer giving it a new approach with his tablet. I just couldn't resist.
We came home with many hundreds of new photos from the Columbia Gorge and the northern Oregon coast. More to come!
Thank you, Mari, for such a wonderful birthday getaway.

You might call this dessert by some other name, and if I told you I was making strawberry shortcake a very different image would come to mind. This is 5 lbs of sweetened strawberries layered among 4 pie shells. My family has called this strawberry shortcake for over 100 years, and I hope that never ends.
It was a tradition for my mother to make it for my dad on his birthday, which is 2 days after mine (May 5/May 7). Dad has been gone since 1974, but the treat has been mine ever since.
Nowadays I make it for myself. Tonight it smells like Heaven in here, and Mari has to wait until it refrigerates overnight. Poor girl!

So here is the class of 1930-something at the old Columbia School in Hermiston, Oregon. It was a very cold Winter, seemingly. Each child has so much personality in their face, I was always inspired to create art from the original photo.
This is stippling on 16x20 cold press illustration board, using only a Rapidograph 6x0 pen.
I am satisfied.

The old Arctic Circle restaurant in Hermiston has been many things since they closed. Its newest incarnation is something to behold. The cooking takes place in the coach, and they serve it up inside.
The topic of street vendors is really hot here currently, with little oversight by the county health authority. One visit per year is about all they get, and that's during normal hours. We only have one inspector for over 400 food vendors across the county.
I don't know how this operation fits into the scheme. Are they street vendors or a brick and mortar restaurant? Hybrid?

We're taking the 2012 Honda CR-Z for it's very first oil change today, after having it for a full year and only putting 5,600 miles on it. The meter says it's still got 40% life in the oil, not due to change until 9,000 miles. But the book says 9,000 miles or 9 months, and I've passed the latter, so here we go.
Out of curiosity (and I am over-stuffed with it), I wanted to know where my mileage falls in among average drivers. It seems I drive less than teenagers and q-tips. I can say that because I am a q-tip.
Maybe I should hand the keys to Mari.
