Speaking of the Name of the Doctor... does anyone else remember a Classic Who episode with Tom Baker where he was on Gallifrey and met an old schoolmate, who called him something that sounded like "Feet" or "Feat"?  Wondering if that was a Gallifreyan schoolboy's nickname. ;-)

The 17th Century Green Florilegium  - a beautiful collection of flower art. These were apparently created  for wealthy people who wanted to catalog their flowers. The original consists of a total of 395 paintings of flowers painted in gouache onto a total of 178 pieces of parchment. The work was created by the Hamburg flower painter Hans Simon Holtzbecker. If you have a few bucks laying around, it's for sale on Amazon.com, where you can preview the inside.

Wow - apparently when Nat King Cole made money, he gave a lot of it to his wife to spend on very nice things... jewelry, antiques and art. I just went to my account settings and disabled "Auto-Awesome" - a new feature that automatically takes related photos you upload and combines them into a cutesie combination photo.  Who needs that stuff?  Family fun photos belong on Facebook, where the rest of the family is. ;-)

These are fun. Dali apparently took vintage botanical prints and transformed them - in his own inimitably quirky style.   In private hands until now, this is the first time they have been seen. Hope to see more pictures of these soon.

I have decided that the new Google+ refresh button is ruining my ability to relax and enjoy what I can catch of my stream while occasionally posting my own entries. I used to enjoy this, but now it feels frantic.

Since I have about 4800 people in my circles, I am getting zillions of blue notifications. Being the kind of information junkie who does not want to miss anything knowingly, that means I am constantly hitting the button and reading posts - it is making me feel anxious. Like the potato chips you can't stop eating - or the slot machine. Just one more, just one more.  

In short, I hate this. It may mean I will spend less time here, sadly.

OK, why can't the blue refresh button automatically take you down to the first new post.. instead of having to do another keystroke (J) to get there.  I don't want to scroll through them backward - and have to remember where I left off before.

Wow - that's an interesting-looking guitar.  This custom-made instrument is the main lot in the Julien’s Auctions Music Icons auction event to take place at Hard Rock Cafe New York on May 18.

George Harrison used it while practicing "I am the Walrus" and John Lennon while recording a video session for "Hello, Goodbye."
