3rd grader: How did St. Paul die?
Me: He was beheaded.
Other 3rd grader: I can name all the saints that were beheaded!
Me: Really? Go ahead.
Other 3rd grader: Sure, there's John, Paul, George and...
Me: Ringo?
:) Only the teacher caught the joke.

I just finished my first Book Club meeting for Dante's Inferno. It went really well. Everyone seemed to be into the book and there was a lot more discussion than I thought there would be.

After spending the day using Windows after a couple months of solely running Linux it feels like everything just runs more slowly for no good reason. Even webpages seem to load more slowly.

The priesthood can be so random at times. Yesterday, I went from blessing a dead body of a man with no family members to paperwork to visiting the homebound to dancing a traditional costa rican dance at a charity dinner.

Awesome thoughts from our Holy Father this morning:
“We priests tend to clericalize the laity. We do not realize it, but it is as if we infect them with our own disease. And the laity — not all, but many — ask us on their knees to clericalize them, because it is more comfortable to be an altar server than the protagonist of a lay path. We cannot fall into that trap — it is a sinful complicity.”
Clericalization means focusing fundamentally on the things on the things of the clergy and, more specifically, the sanctuary, rather than bringing the Gospel to the world.

Me: So, what did you guys do for your Easter break?
7th grader: I went to South Carolina.
Me: What did you do there?
7th grader: I went to the beach and board walk.
Me: But, we have those here in New Jersey.
7th grader: Not any more.
And then I was sad.

I successfully made it to Virginia. I hung out with friends, celebrated mass and now it's time to rest. I feel slightly left out of the April fools antics, though, since Netflix didn't try to trick me.

2nd grader: My drawing is hanging up over there.
Me: Oh, which one is it?
2nd Grader: This one.
Me: Oh, it's the Mona Lisa. Why is she holding a candle?
2nd grader: It's a pencil.
And then the conversation abruptly ended and I still have no idea why the Mona Lisa would be holding a pencil. :)

7th Grader: What would you do if you were Pope?
Me: Well, first I'd cry and then I'd have to pick a new name.
7th Grader: Why don't you go by your own name. You could be Pope Carter.
Other 7th Grader: It needs to be a first name.
7th Grader: "Carter" isn't his first name?
:)

My school took a trip to the Our Lady of Czestochowa shrine in Doylestown, PA today. The Father giving us the tour asked them if the children knew the name of the Holy Father. A 2nd grader replied that the the Holy Father was, "Father Carter." I don't know if I should be proud that they think so highly of me or mortified that I've failed to teach them who the Pope is! :)

I don't know why people are so fixated with the smoke coming out of the Sistine Chapel. If a Pope is elected, they'll ring the bells too so that there will be no doubt.

I thought I had a funeral today. But, I was mistaking and because of circumstances I won't be able to say mass till this afternoon. I just realized that yesterday was the last time I would ever pray for Benedict our Pope during the Eucharistic Prayer. :(
