All the triumphs, mistakes, failures, and regrets we experience in our life has purpose. It's so we can understand it, create meaning from it, grow from it, and evolve into the people we want to become. When we wallow in self loathing and punish ourselves believing that those acts are retributions for not being perfect, we become more distant from the person we must aspire to be.

In general, there are so many limitations and dangers that are presented in pharmaceutical testing. Efficacy trials on medication should take up to decades to fully study the effects. However, that isn't quite cost effective. Pharmaceutical companies want to get these meds on the shelves as soon as they can so they can rake in the profit. What that means is that meds are only tested and trialed for a few years and long term effects are unknown.

Now, here is this article that highlights how pharmaceutical companies are recruiting homeless people as volunteers. There are so many ethical, moral, and scientific reasons why this is far from acceptable. The horribly scary thing about this is that practically all of America is on some kind of drug.

I honestly don't think people care about such things ... mainly because they don't know what to do about it. I'm not sure that's a fair excuse. The Therapeutic Relationship

I’ve heard one too many times the complaints from those who have sought mental health treatment that therapy hasn’t worked for them. When I inquire further about the issue, they tell me that the therapists and psychologists that they have seen just sit back and listen to them talk while offering no guidance, forget what their stories are and ask to repeat it, present to them some prescription of thinking and feeling regurgitated right from a textbook, or believe that the ability to sit in silence is a huge part of the cure.

Whenever I hear such stories (and I’ve heard them from so many people) I get so angry and infuriated because 1) they don’t take other people’s lives seriously and 2) they have no idea how to understand people yet they sit in this position while getting paid good money for it. It ABSOLUTELY upsets and disgusts me.

Back then when Freud discovered psychoanalysis, he believed in free association and that people will come to their own insights the more they talk and talk. We have our present day version of this where therapists will ask the same questions in different ways as if the answers will be different the next time around. The reality is that people are stuck in their lives because they haven’t been able to find those answers and not because it wasn’t asked, but because they haven’t been shown the way to reach them. Therapists are wary of presenting new ideas and new ways of thinking because they are afraid of “manipulating” or “influencing” the clients into thinking something that may have adverse effects. They worry that if the clients don’t come up with their own solution or insights that the lesson won’t stick. So they sit back and get paid deflecting all responsibility while their clients run circles in their heads feeling so incredibly frustrated and NOT understood. Ah, not to mention those therapists who want to keep clients in sessions making them dependent on them because they are their source of income. Is that healthy? Is that helpful?

The therapeutic relationship is supposed to be a safe experience for both parties where there is trust, honesty, and a mutual alliance with the client’s best interest in mind. I am an active participant in this relationship and when the person sitting in front of me is stuck, I will lend a hand. Clients need to be ready for their lives because time keeps passing. Time doesn’t wait for anyone. The more they stay feeling stuck, they will keep missing the boat and sooner or later, there will be no more boats to take or the ones that are left aren’t the ones that could take them on the best journey that was meant for them in this life.

The psychiatric field was banned from conducting any studies using recreational drugs. Interestingly enough, mind altering drugs were not allowed to be studied and tested despite mind altering mental illnesses. The psychotropics that are being used today continue to be limited in it's effectiveness for various mental disorders. Not everyone benefits from them. So, this news is quite exciting.

Character vs. Personality

These words should never be used interchangeably to mean the other!

The origin of the word Character is defined as a “distinctive mark,” which describes a person’s distinguished qualities. Character is one’s moral standing, values, and beliefs that define the individual’s traits and features that do not waver easily. It is embedded in the person’s being and what they value at the core of who they are. For instance, if one values honesty, that person will always be honest regardless of the situation. One’s character is not always easy to determine by others. In fact, it is often during character-challenging situations that you can see who the real person is underneath the personality.

Character molds the personality.

Personality, on the other hand, is the visible aspect of one’s character that people impress on others. It is the demonstration of the way an individual thinks, behaves, and feels in various circumstances. From the Latin word “persona,” it is a theatrical mask worn by performers in order to play different roles or disguise their identity. Therefore, personality is what the person shows outwardly to others so that others can see them the way they want to be seen. Personality is not always true to the character. However, depending on how they wear that mask, you can determine their character.

People have often interchanged these two words to mean the same thing. Even in psychology, they often discuss the two as if they are synonymous. When I observe an individual, I look at their personality and then I determine their character. I see personality as a branch of the character whereas character is the root of the person. If you only treat the personality of an individual without ever fully determining, uncovering, and understanding the character, then you are only treating the symptom of the problem and not the actual problem.

The Lesson of Happiness from a 3 Year Old

As I was watching this video, I thought about how much adults have learned to be so fearful of what is supposed to feel so raw and real. We're afraid to show ourselves. We've learned to hide behind pain and anger. We then carry that negativity around like a badge of honor because we did in fact survive. We are still breathing. But the question is, are we living? One of my own challenges in my life is differentiating the two and liberating both parts of myself. I've wondered what I would look like if I looked for the child in me. I think it would look like Zhang Junhao. =D  Amazing and Epic isn't enough to describe him!

Evidence Based Practices vs. Empirically Supported Treatments in Clinical Psychology

The field of psychology has been ever changing since Freud. It traveled from looking at sexual impulses/aggression to behavioralism to empirically supported treatments (EST) such as cognitive behavioral therapy and Linehan's Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. The culture has been focused on developing short term treatment to look desirable to insurance companies as well as clients who do not want to dedicate the time to a lengthy process.

Unfortunately, there are significant downfalls.

Empirically supported treatments for the most part are manuallized treatments that are symptom focused. They are developed by collecting a supposed "random" sample of participants, which are typically white females on college campuses because they are the easiest subjects to get. (This is a bit of an exaggeration, but not too far from the truth.) They then collect the data and mold it into a treatment manual the researchers then insist is that it is effective for most people. In actuality, it neglects to recognize one of the biggest elements that makes up one's identity, which are cultural factors. In addition, the therapist providing such a manualized treatment have no idea how to understand people. They hide behind theoretical orientations and recite treatments from a book while never having even a remote grasp of the human psyche. This is a tragedy that will continue to add to the downfall of humanity. Dramatic? No... this is our reality. For those of you who have had to "shop" around for therapists I'm sure understands this.

Hayao Miyazaki understands this concept very well. He stated  that anime suffers because the industry staff is made up of otaku who "don't spend time watching real people" and are "humans who can't stand looking at other humans." It's the same in psychology. Many therapists have read books to understand people. Rarely have they examined their own self and developed a full understanding in order to then take those realizations to deeply understand others. Psychology is supposed to be the study of the "psyche" = soul and not just the treatment of symptoms.

The image that women have of themselves is so tragically broken. These women were desperate enough to stick on a patch without even questioning or asking what is actually in the patch. This is what society has done to us... this is what culture has done to us... this is what our own parents have done to us. And that price is high. It's your life.

When the older woman cried struggling to hold back her tears, it was evident that there was so much regret in her life. All those years she could have just been her, but was too afraid to be. Can you live with that kind of regret? I have, but I certainly don't want to, especially when I'm older looking back at the past 60 years of my life. We can be stronger than this. The beauty you have on the inside will make you glow. Nothing else. =)

Dove : Women Are So Fraked Campaign

There is nothing in the "Beauty Patch" ladies and the fact that you think there is something in them is really, really fucked up. The fact that your minds are so broken by society that you would even BELIEVE a patch could make you feel better about yourself ... that this experiment actually WORKED on you ... is NOT A GOOD THING. One woman says at the end "that's awesome" ... no. no it's not awesome. Because it's a demonstration of how fraked women are. That's not awesome. That's sad. That's depressing. That's a nightmare.  Yes beauty is a state of mind and it's so fraked up that so many women are out of theirs ....

Believe In Good

They've done it again.

Thai Life Insurance has unveiled another masterful mini-film by Ogilvy & Mather Bangkok, the latest in a string of tear-jerking, wait-to-watch-it-at-home-so-you-don't-openly-bawl-in-your-cubicle ads that make you think about what's important in life and why your own life is important.

"Unsung Hero," which clocks in at just over three minutes, will make you want to give of yourself to reap the rewards of the soul. <--- #youshouldbedoingthisANYWAY

Dissertation Day

My dissertation is the bane of my existence, but it needs to be done. Andreas is giving me company and support. What a nice kitty though I'm sneezing my head off because I'm allergic to him. Lol! I got him this pet house/couch and he loves it! I'm really happy he feels comfortable on it. Now back to work for me as he lounges. :)

Kyoukai no Kanata - Episode 1

I have been blindly guided to this anime. I don't ask questions when I'm given a media therapy assignment to watch. I simply eagerly anticipate the journey I'll be going on. In preparation for that, I pack my back and get myself emotionally in the right place (open and vulnerable) because I've learned from the media I have watched thus far, there are so many lessons to take in. If you're closed off and guarded, you could possibly miss the most important lesson yet. Most have touched the inner workings of my mind while others questioned whether I even had a heart. I can say confidently that the more I've explored the stories in media as my own personal journey, my soul burns brighter. I have always gotten lost, fallen, loved, died, and still come back. Now, that's an epic journey.

Kyoukai no Kanata, I don't know where you guys are going with this, but I like it. So far, everything I thought was going to happen didn't and I feel like a bit of a fool for making such inaccurate judgments. That even makes me more curious and intrigued. Mirai and Akihito, just who are you guys and where are you taking me? Am I ready? Do I even have a choice? Even if I did, I would still go. I've been stuck in my mundane existence for far too long. Teach me something I don't know even if you end up stabbing me. I've been so stubborn all these years.

I have a tinge of envy of your character Mirai and Akihito. Both of you guys know who you are at the core of you. Mirai, despite the fear of your own strengths, you persevere and are determined to harness it. I envy your courage because I have been a coward in the face of fear for so many years. The same goes for you Akihito. How simple you made it look to choose and change your path. Despite my feelings of envy, I will eagerly follow... for now.

Self Punishment

I was thinking about the downs people experience (myself included) and how we get to a point we punish ourselves. For some people, punishment is taken as far as self-loathing and believing they don't deserve to be happy. They begin to tell themselves, "I'm not good enough. I'm worthless. I'm a bad person. I don't deserve anything good." That's a very difficult place to be and some people stay trapped there for a very long time.

Behaviors are generally shaped and change occurs through the conditioning process of positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment. I thought about the process of punishment and self-loathing. When we decide to punish ourselves and deny the self of any sense of value and worth, there are important questions to ask. What exactly are you punishing yourself for? Did you do anything wrong?... more »

What exactly are you punishing yourself for? Did you do anything wrong? What is the purpose and goal of the punishment? Was there a lesson to be learned?

A punishment is a way to elicit change. When a child is punished for any wrongdoing, the parent enforces the punishment in order to make sure that behavior isn't repeated. For example, if the child hasn't gotten good grades, they may have their cell phone taken from them. When adults punish themselves, I've noticed that they are not realistic about their punishment. They deny themselves of anything that is positive and allow guilt (whatever that may be) to take over their life. The point of a punishment is to change and become better, not to wallow is self loathing and misery.

Media Therapy: Projects, Learning, and Commitment

I have decided to commit to doing #mediatherapy with anime again! I have done some media therapy in the past with media chosen for me by Elaine and I gained so much from the experience.

Media Therapy loosely defined is the process of watching a piece of media as if it was written for you and pulling from it themes, messages, and meaning that is then used to analyze one's own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The goal is to learn lessons, think deeply about issues, and come to gain a more reality focused perspective. The process involves thinking, allowing yourself to become open, and doing homework assignments to get you to a new level of understanding of yourself and the world around you.

When I did this on and off for a short period of time, I noticed how positively I was affected. My thinking ability improved (which I am thankful for), I've become more emotionally aware, and there were some significant areas of my life I was able to resolve. Hard to believe, but it really happened. It definitely is a fun, yet intensive process. Elaine will be posting about my process and my homework assignments on mediapsyche.info.

I will also continue to commit to the Babylon 5 Revisited and Rethought project (b5revisited.com). While the process of media therapy is the same, various media evoke different emotions and thoughts. Babylon 5 has it's own unique perspectives to explore through my own lens. I hope you find my process and experience interesting, educational, and even possibly insight provoking.

Partial Hospitalization Program

I just called a Partial Hospitalization Program in the Boston area to refer a client. They told me that the wait for the program is 9 weeks. That's a long time! It makes me think about how help is limited and more and more people are getting sicker and sicker psychologically.

There are a number of factors that are contributing to the decline of mental wellness in people. It includes everything from personal stress, increased demands, unhealthy foods, environmental pollution, insurance company limitations, and therapists that are doing more harm than good to their clients (just to name a few). We have so many challenges to face in our day to day lives and it keeps getting harder and harder to live. Hence, programs are being flooded with people who are having a hard time living life. Mental Health Therapy

A few people recently contacted me to ask about mental health therapy. It turned out they never talked about these issues with anyone before. They took a huge step in trusting me enough to tell me their personal information so I can offer them some direction and various options. Then I wondered how much others knew about therapy/counseling.

It seems that people who have never had therapy before have questions and concerns regarding the process. First off, therapy is a relationship. When you look for a therapist, you have to look for someone that is compatible with you and you feel comfortable with. The therapist should also be someone who challenges you, gives you different perspectives to consider, and makes you think about who you are while providing you a safe environment to do that exploration. Stay away from therapists that coddle you, asks a million times "how does that make you feel?", and you feel like you're sitting with a drinking buddy. Unless you want that kind of a relationship with your therapist, it's a waste of time with no real gains.

Most people who enter into therapy should expect to be in it for the long haul (unless you want a quick "patch me up). It's a time for personal exploration and with sessions typically at 45 minutes a week, it will be a while before you get to the place you need/want to get to. Expect it to be a journey: sometimes smooth and sometimes bumpy.

There continues to be stigma associated with mental health therapy. Concerns like: "If I get counseling, does that mean I'm crazy?" "Does that mean I'm weak?" "Will having a mental health diagnosis affect me negatively?" The bottom line to consider is whether or not you feel like you're living. Therapy is about life and wellness and not just surviving doing the best you can to get through each day. Ask yourself, "What's more important to me?" There will always be stigma along with all the other kinds of oppression we experience each day. Learning about yourself and improving your quality of life is a gift, not a curse.

Lastly, many people are afraid of being told to take psychotropic medications and some only want medication. Medication is your choice. Depending on what you are suffering from, it surely can help alleviate symptoms. Either way, you still have to do the work.

Acupuncture and Herbals

For the past three and a half years, I have been suffering from stomach issues. The evening after my swimsuit photo shoot, I came home, ate dinner, and I've been chronically bloated since. (We can throw in some nausea and vomiting as well.) I've chased doctors during that whole time. I've been seen by my primary care physician, 3 gastroenterologists, a naturopath, and now a Chinese Herbalist/Acupuncturist Wei Dong Lu at the New England School of Acupuncture. I have learned so much along the way though my symptoms haven't completely resolved.

Every doctor had their place in my treatment. Every doctor found something the other didn't and they did the best they could until they hit a wall. Herbals and acupuncture is my final step in my wellness. At this point, Dr. Lu is treating all of the stress I've accumulated over the years and getting my stomach to function properly again. I have been seeing him since September and I have to say that my stomach has calmed down quite a bit. I haven't been as bloated or nauseous as I used to be. I really hope this year, I will feel better.

On a side note, I saw Dr. Lu today. I told him how his name is really nice because it just rolls off your tongue. I went on to tell him how my friends like his name as well and at this point, when they remind me to take my herbals, they ask "Have you drank your Wei Dong Lu yet? Have you had your Life of Wei Dong Lu?" He laughed so hard! =)

By the way, the Chicken Gizzard Lining is just so awesome :/

If anyone has any questions about alternative medicine, feel free to ask. I may know the answer.

With so much change that has happened in the world and continues to unfold, it's interesting how both the Japanese culture and Korean culture remain so antiquated in certain domains. They are one of the first to embrace change in the physical sense (technology, plastic surgery, etc), but when it comes to hierarchy of families and relationships, they continue to believe that certain milestones remain the only way to live and be happy.

Many Korean people whose value system is strongly based on traditional views continue to believe that one needs to get married, have children, and secure a job regardless of whether they like it or not. That's why they always ask questions and make statements like, "You should get married soon and have a family. When will you have your next child?" There is pretty much no regard for our own individual happiness. I'm not quite sure if they can even conceive of such a concept since the culture is very much intertwined with interpersonal harmony even if it is at your own individual expense.

I can understand Rika's point of view, which is the point of view of the grandparents who anticipate seeing their kid's family and grandchildren after a long hiatus. They really do anticipate and wait for that time to get together. But in the same breath, they don't realize that they make the experience so negative and unpleasant by placing demands and asking questions that cross the boundaries. They truly believe that they are being helpful though such behaviors indicate extreme selfishness. It would be cool to see your Asian parents/grandparents if their happiness weren't so dependent on their expectations of you.

I went to see her the other evening. I was her only appointment and she brought this booklet in to show me. She said her son (11 years old) made this book for her for Christmas to help her understand Minecraft. Since our last conversation, she committed to playing Minecraft and is now officially hooked! She has been asking her son questions about Minecraft and their connection has gotten stronger because she understands another part of his world. When his friends come over, they all sit around and talk about Minecraft together. Her son and his friends are so excited that an adult actually understands them. They think she's really cool. She thanked me for opening up the door to Minecraft and told me that she was determined to know something she didn't understand before.

I was first introduced to Minecraft as part of   #mediatherapy  by +Elaine Barlow . I remember not wanting to commit to playing this game and feeling overwhelmed with the learning process since I haven't played many games. Elaine has told me that I couldn't judge something I didn't know. I was happy that I was able to pass that same message along and it resonated. I have learned many lessons through Minecraft. I also use it as part of psychotherapy. It has helped me understand my clients worlds, but more importantly helped me clarify their own worlds to them.

My favorite line in the book is section 4. Killing Animals. It might be sad but if you kill an animal you get stuff. He's quite the compassionate kid. =)

This woman said to her 9 month old child (estimated age) innocently sitting in the cart, "I'm going to get stocking stuffers for MYSELF because you know daddy won't do it."

It was very clear that the woman wanted an audience. She wanted me to hear it. I was the only one around at that time. Most people want validation, reassurance, and empathy because 1) they have miserable lives 2) the seek comfort in the words of others despite how shallow it is 3) they have no sense of self strength. One who demonstrates such a display is someone who is incredibly insecure and needs to hear that her whole existence isn't a mistake. This message and the reality of her whole life is coming through from a stocking stuffer. She, of course, has no idea HOW MUCH of herself she has shared in that one snippet in such an inappropriate context.

The bottom line is that her comment had an affect... more »

Spreading Mundanity Via Toxic Communication

Everyone on G+ knows I hate mundanes. I think they are pretty much responsible for the destruction of the world through how they spread their madness (or mundanity) to others. One of the ways they do this - both directly and indirectly - is communication. This morning while I was on the phone with +Jennie Song, she relayed a situation to me that happened while she was in a store ...

A lot of people who read my posts about communication think I spend way too much time analyzing communication. Well that's my field and my focus and what I teach. I see it differently. What may seem like "innocent" or "innocuous" communication to you I'm actually trying to tell you is anything BUT. The problem with the world is mostly communication oriented issues between people. If you're not going to understand the complexity of communication and how it relates to everyday psychological functioning, then you're just contributing to the problems in the world. If you want to live in denial that's your right ... but you're only making things worse in the world by doing so.

A woman in the same aisle as Jennie was "talking to" her baby while shopping. Jennie heard her say something similar to, "Mommy's going to get some stocking stuffers since you know Daddy isn't going to do it."

There are two main issues here (for me) :

1. This woman isn't actually talking to her baby. She's talking "out loud" because she WANTS other people to hear her and validate or empathize  and/or sympathize with her.

2. If this woman was actually using her baby to passively-aggressively voice her gripes about her husband you already know what kind of life this kid is going to have with this kind of woman who communicates in such a way.

Let's talk about the first problem I have with mundanes which is described in issue 1. Stop vomiting your SHIT and your ISSUES into the world and onto innocent people. If your husband sucks or is lazy or forgetful or selfish or whatever is at the root of that OVERSHARE it's on you. Throwing it into a crowd hoping to catch an ear of empathy or another like-minded victim is really obnoxious and selfish. What's to gain from this kind of communication? Are you helping others with it? No. You're helping yourself.

The world isn't your therapist and roping strangers into your holiday or marital depression is disgusting. Keep your issues to yourself. If you want to treat the outside world like a social network, you might want to rethink that. A lot of mundane communication isn't about helping others but in fact dragging them down or into something else ... that's a huge issue. (And if you think this post is an example of that then you clearly have no idea why I'm writing it and you have a brain like a brick - go away).

Think about communication like second-hand smoke. You're standing in a store having your own issues and own emotionally motivated communication with yourself and you start saying these things out loud to whomever is in earshot. What does this "smoke" do to other people who are minding their own business, shopping, or whatever? For most mundanes it's an ear worm - other peoples issues - they gravitate towards people's misery or expressions like moths to a flame - so you'll probably get peoples attention. Other people don't give two shits and will just ignore you but the smoke of your shit is still on them and why should they have to be subjected to it?

The second issue is really the worst one. Why are you talking to your baby like this? Why are you using your child as a sounding board for your issues? Talk to your husband, talk to a therapist, talk to your adult friends but for God's sake leave your CHILD out of it. One imagines that this woman will do this all the time as the child gets older. This kid is going to become this wall that its mother pukes her shit all over and as it gets older. I wonder if both parents will do it. Let's say the father takes the kid out and says things like "I better remember to pick up the dry cleaning, you know how irritated your mom gets when I forget" ... and more of this on top of more of this ...  Do you really think this kind of communication is innocuous?

It's easy to say the baby can't understand her so what does it matter? Do you really think that that justifies her doing it in the first place? And do you think that she'll stop as the kid gets older and starts developing the ability to understand? This woman probably does this quite a bit in which case it's probably a personality trait so she probably doesn't even know she does it (or doesn't care). So no, she probably won't stop, unless someone like me tells her to stop using her child as a puke pail.

Communication is complex and it's more complex than people care to think about especially when you couple it with an understanding of psychology and sociology. Just because you learn words and you learn to string those words together does NOT mean that you know how to communicate. That is one of the FIRST things I teach in my class. If you don't think about the hows and the whys of communication between yourself and others then how will communication between people ever get better?

If this kind of post interests you - for most people I know it's just TL;DR nonsense - you can read text versions of my first 3 #Comm333  lectures here :

I am especially interested in what +Jennie Song has to say about her own experience once she gets out of her psych seminar ...

#thewebrecluse   #communication  ___This woman said to her 9 month old child (estimated age) innocently sitting in the cart, "I'm going to get stocking stuffers for MYSELF because you know daddy won't do it."

The bottom line is that her comment had an affect on me. For that moment, I had to hear her baggage and carry that. It tainted my shopping experience and I felt incredibly bad for the child who will soon replace the father. This woman's child is going to become the woman's way of satiating her emotional needs since her husband is "absent" in her life. That will be the unspoken responsibility that will fall on that kid. How selfish! And then that kid will grow up with the same insecurities in addition to mommy issues. That is the cycle of mental disorder.

Being Stuck

Most people feel stuck and unable to move forward at some point in their life. You reach a place where you face a wall and your path is blocked. Much like the anime #attackontitan  , you live in your safe zone behind walls. You live safe lives (existences)... But there comes a time when safe isn't good enough. Your demons remind you why you can't move forward, especially when they come invading full force. Safe becomes filled with regret because during that whole time you felt "safe, " you were insecure, you let time pass you by, and you never did the things you wanted to do.

The key to not feeling stuck is the acceptance of reality, which includes the acceptance of who you are (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and that people are all humans (we all make mistakes). From that point on, you make a decision on the path you want to walk. Then, you... more »

Then, you take a courageous step outside the wall and keep moving forward as you take down your own personal Titans on your journey.

It took me years to understand this. I was very much afraid to step into the world, but once I put everything into a reality-based perspective, (not seeing things only through my filters) there was a whole new world out there.

Korean 90s Dance Hitsongs

Listening to this brought back so many memories of my high school years. That's when I first started listening to Korean music. I stayed up late sometimes listening to these songs on the radio. I never knew the titles of the songs. Thanks Musiknara (aka Music Country) for putting up the list.

I have been playing #ffxiv for almost two months. As I was playing I realized something. There is a very close parallel to the reality of our lives. In #ffxiv you start off by choosing a class and that leads you to the "school" that will teach you your "profession." Then you have story quests that takes you from one destination to another. In our lives, we make a decision as to what we want to do. I chose to be a psychologist and this endeavor has led me from NJ to CT and now to MA to complete the final "class" quest before I take on higher level achievements. The story quest is my life. It involves the people I meet along the way, the friendships and loyalty I keep, the milestones I reach, and the new places I see.

As long as you keep progressing, you continue to level up. Just like in reality, you develop new skills, you become smarter, you become stronger granted you actually learn along the way. You can also pick up hobbies as you progress through your class and life story, which is much like picking up hobbies in the game (i.e., botany, weaving, mining.) As long as you continue along your real life personal quests, you will become stronger and reach your achievements. You just have to continue to follow that path no matter how challenging and difficult your personal "dungeons" are.

This was an amazing 10 minute experience. It evoked so many emotions without a single word. Be warned. You will cry. =D

Tekken's Latest Tear Jerker

Remember Tekken, the balding comedian with makeup reminiscent of KISS and a talent for turning out some truly tear-wrenching flipbook animations? Well, he’s done it again, with a ten-minute piece titled A Story about Family.

As with Tekken’s previous works, the story uses absolutely no dialog, but still manages to convey a message of familial piety which transcends cultural borders and is almost certain to evoke some tears. It’ll have you scrambling for the phone to call home and show thanks to those who have supported you throughout the years.

Tekken created A Story about Family for the 140 year anniversary of Japan’s Shinano Daily Newspaper. The clip lasts almost ten minutes long and contains a total of 1,918 pages, every last one of them hand-drawn by Tekken, himself!

The story follows a family of apple farmers: a mom, a dad, and their adoring son. The young boy idolizes his father and hopes to take part in the family business once he grows up. However, as he grows older and more rebellious, he begins to drift apart from his parents, trying to make it big in Tokyo as a musician. Meanwhile, his parents support him every step of the way, even when their son is absent, even when he is ungrateful, and especially when he begins to falter, all in spite of the struggles they are facing at the farm.

You may start to wonder if any of them will be able to stick it out and pursue their chosen lifestyles. But in the end, you’ll be struck by the awesome power of familial love, always there and always supportive. You’ll reach the end and think to yourself, “This is what a family is meant to embody.”___This was an amazing 10 minute experience. It evoked so many emotions without a single word. Be warned. You will cry. =D

I am a huge fan of minecraft because if it's simplicity and "innocence." It brought about other creative parts to me. Now in my spare time, I think about structures I want to build next and it excites me. I'm so happy to see how successful this game has been and that people are acknowledging it and loving it.

A little late to the game when it comes to #Minecraft  but it's a nice article in it's own way :) +Jennie Song will enjoy this ... ___I am a huge fan of minecraft because if it's simplicity and "innocence."
