This is the best episode of Adventure Time, and it doesn't involve any of the main characters. Amazing writing in this show.

There is a special place in hell for authors of websites that tack on extra information to what you copy from the page.

I've been trying to give the new sci-fi show _Defiance_ a fair shake, but it's rough. There's a lot of issues with the show though:
- There's a half-dozen alien races, which all just happen to look human but whiter or more orange, etc. Sure Star Trek and Star Wars got away with that, but at least there was some variation across races. In Defiance, even the alien teenagers are full of human teen angst.
- Julie Benz just doesn't seem a good fit for her role. I feel like I'm watching her old character from Dexter.
- Half the supporting cast seems to have trouble acting.
I keep hoping it'll get better by the end of the season..

"They were harvested by hand along the shoreline and served to prisoners and indentured servants who exchanged their passage to America for seven years of service to their sponsors. In Massachusetts, some of the servants finally rebelled. They had their contracts state that they would not be forced to eat lobster more than three times a week."

I have a tremendous number of thoughts about the various revelations about the NSA's domestic espionage programs revealed this week. But first and foremost, I wanted to share this message from +Larry Page and our Chief Legal Officer +David Drummond. Google had no involvement in the PRISM program and the first we heard of it was when Greenwald's article hit the press.
I'm not sure what the details of this PRISM program are, but I can tell you that the only way in which Google reveals information about users are when we receive lawful, specific orders about individuals -- things like search warrants. And we continue to stand firm against any attempts to do so broadly or without genuine, individualized suspicion, and publicize the results as much as possible in our Transparency Report. Having seen much of the internals of how we do this, I can tell you that it is a point of pride, both ... more »

NEW PRODUCT – RGB 7-Segment Digit – 1″ Tall Digit

NEW PRODUCT – RGB 7-Segment Digit – 1″ Tall Digit – That photo isn’t a Photoshop-job, it really is a 7-segment display with a RGB LED in every single segment! Now you can have a large 7-segment digit in your project with a full color display.
Inside each segment is 3 red/green/blue LEDs, for 21 LEDs total. The anodes are all connected together and then there are 21 cathodes to control. Unfortunately that means you’ll need 21 pins to fully control the display, and we do not have a backpack or easy solution at this time. We suggest 3 75HC595′s (or similar) chained together so you can control 24 pins with a 3-pin SPI interface. That will let you light up each segment’s LED separately. The decimal point is not connected (does not light up) on this display, only the seven segments.

"His abortion campaign brought on conservative Christianity's last great charge to the ramparts, and it failed. By comparison, the subsequent campaign against same-sex marriage was a mere shadow.
"To reference this is not to ridicule or belittle the church, merely to note Canadians' journey into a European-style spiritual cool zone, and the long, building resistance to clericalism on both sides of the language divide."

I think I'm finally understanding the difference between the Mercurial and Git camps: Mercurial prefers to maintain history at the expense of your revision tree looking like tangled spaghetti, while Git prefers to maintain a clean revision tree, at the expense of losing some of the details of history.

I had a dream last night that Google's Satellite view went real-time, and I could watch myself walking around the street as a little pixel blob. I'm pretty sure my dream self thought this was cool rather than scary.

Even though I've been doing the self corporation / contracting / non-standard employment for a long time, I still have only scratched the surface of all the myriad ways that corporations work.
Regular employment does have its perks: you can ignore all this crap and just do what you love.

Discovered that in the last two years, Gson has upped its performance game a bit. It was actually the fastest parser out of the three I tested just recently. I've caught nanojson up in terms of performance, however.
