Vietnam always seems to be very busy. I got up quite early every morning during my travels. I never slept longer than 6am. But i always seem to be late. 
I couldn´t remember the motorbikes ever stopped hooting, the kitchens were always steaming and everyone had to sell something....anytime.
Hanoi is picked of temples and pagodas of all kinda religions and worldviews . And very soon i found out why....they are an oasis of silence and peace within all the trouble. At least it was for me :-)

I made this photo in the Quán Thánh Temple, a taoist temple in Hanoi, Vietnam.
I watched this monk carrying some joss sticks from the oven to the shrine. I admired the serene and tranquil way of doing it.
We didn´t talk.

Asian countries are known for drinking tea....I'm more likely a coffee fan....and i wasn't disappointed. It has a strong and sweet taste. "Black" coffee is black (!!!), not brown like the stuff we usually drink here in Europe.
And if you order Ca Phe Sua Nong (coffee with milk), it's served with thick condensed milk. Since warming up in such a country isn't urgently neccessary...i also forgot about all the warnings of consuming ice cubes and had the very popular iced coffee too!! (and i still feel healthy :-))

"the heroic". 
I think this rickshaw driver deserves his name. We just started a little tour through the old quarter of Hanoi when it started to pour down...I mean...in one moment you get grilled by the sun and all of a sudden the sky opens its gates. As quick as the weather changed my driver found his "rain cape" and an additional one to protect me and my camera equipment.
Being a rickshaw driver is a hard job. I tried to talk a bit with him....just got to know that he's got a wife and 2 kids he has to feed. 1 hour rickshaw in Hanoi costs about 10.000 to 30.000 dong. Well, if you fight for a fair price. I've heard a lot of tourists get ripped off and pay about 60.000....damn!!....that's about 2€!!! :-)

motorbikes.

I'm back :-))

After a 11h flight to HCMC, some waiting for my visa....and then trying to catch another 2 hours flight to Hanoi where my journey at least started. The first impression i got was the feeling to be surrounded by millions of motorbikes that all drive like nuts without any kind of system. There are about 92 million habitants in Vietnam....and about 1/3 owns a motorbike.
Before i left i watched some youTube Videos with instructions how to cross a street in Vietnam. I laughed about them silly tourists....just until i was standing in front of a street and wondered how to get over it. "Don't wait for them to stop for you. You're the weakest animal in the city jungle....just go over the street....slowly, don't stop, don't change the speed and just have a look that no bus or car is near....go....just go....and hope that everyone finds a... more »

This is my submission to #PlusOneCollection2012  
It´s not a picture i published before. I didn´t picked out one that was most popular last year counted by numbers/clicks/comments/shares because to me this doesn´t urgently mean that this has to be my best shot in 2012.

I went out to shoot it after a big photographic depression. I was doubting in what I´m doing, didn´t do one shot within a couple of weeks.
I found me back in the thought the next picture i shoot will be the best i will take. That´s one of the best motivations for being a photographer i think.
I finished the year 2012 with this shot (30/12/2012). I took a ride on the swing again....and it will be a reminder for the next crisis i will go through. And a reminder to go out and take the best picture i´ve ever taken.

falling heaven.

Zero 7 - Look Up

St. Helena....is a  pre-Romanesque style church and only rest of a medieval town close to the monastery of Sant Pere de Rhodes.
This is not very far from where i live since about 9 years now. So i went there a couple of times. Going reguarly to places i know with a camera shows very obvious how i tend to photograph things at different stages of life and my own development of photographic skills.
I think i should put some more "well-known" places on my list to re-visit. 
And i´ll visit this place again next year :-)

John Taylor

I´d like to introduce you to John Taylor.
I met him during a walk in a wonderful autumnal park. Or shall i better say he met me? He saw me shooting the Pantheon you can see in the back of this picture Immediately he came up to me and said by seeing me ,he was reminded him when he took photos. I asked him why he doesn´t do that anymore. He said he has had a hard life. He was travelling around the world, saw wars, wrote for newspapers and had many ups and downs. And all this is now in a couple of boxes in a garage of his family. In the last couple of years he had 6 heart attacks. Now he´s happy about every day he has....and the longer he thought about it...he got the idea to find his old cam and take it for the next walk...."if no other heart attack will disturb me" :-)
I smiled and asked him for a portrait of him. He smiled back.
