Google Keep's lock screen widgets are the most useful. You don't need to unlock the phone to capture a note, voice clip or snap.

This is PRISM

This is a photo of a secret room (1) in AT&T central office on Folsom Street in San Francisco, room 641A.

High speed fiber optic circuits come in on the 8th floor and run down to the 7th floor where they connect to routers for AT&T's WorldNet service, part of the latter's vital “Common Backbone.” In order to snoop on these circuits, a special cabinet was installed and cabled to the “secret room” on the 6th floor to monitor the information going through the circuits. (The location code of the cabinet is 070177.04, which denotes the 7th floor, aisle 177 and bay 04.) The “secret room” itself is roughly 24-by-48 feet,  containing perhaps a dozen cabinets including such equipment as Sun servers and two Juniper routers, plus an industrial-size air conditioner.

A PRISM is used to 'split' the light travelling through thefiber optic c... more »

Easy privacy, coming soon.

I'm working on a new feature that will hopefully make it's way into CM. It's called "Run in Incognito Mode". It's a simple privacy feature designed to help you keep your personal data under control.

I've added a per-application flag which is exposed via a simple API. This flag can be used by content providers to decide if they should return a full or limited dataset. In the implementation I'm working on, I am using the flag to provide these privacy features in the base system:

 * Return empty lists for contacts, calendar, browser history, and messages.
 * GPS will appear to always be disabled to the running application.
 * When an app is running incognito, a quick panel item is displayed in order to turn it off easily.
 * No fine-grained permissions controls as you saw in CM7. It's asin... more »

We've just released Android Studio 0.1.3 with a number of fixes around Gradle project support, editor support, and user reported crashes.

There is a new toolbar action for syncing Gradle file state with the IDE; source and layout editors now properly handle Gradle flavors and build types, and lint warns and can fix hardcoded packages in custom attribute namespaces.

My new tab page in Chrome looks sexy thanks to Awesome New Tab Page. Try it out.

It has personally customized tiles for each of the open-source projects, apps and pages I visit regularly. Those tiles at the bottom for Twitter, Facebook and the Chrome Web Store? Each of them displays a search box on hover so that I can easily look up content with minimal effort. I really like this extension.

Want something similar? Check out Awesome New Tab Page on the Chrome Web Store:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/awesome-new-tab-page/mgmiemnjjchgkmgbeljfocdjjnpjnmcg

Any link or Chrome app can be a tile and you can easily install more widgets from the project site. You can also easily import or export configurations so the community can share themes.

PS: In case your first thought when looking at this was 'Metro!', I feel you. ... more »

New Sensor a Thousand Times More Sensitive Than Current Camera Sensors

Cameras fitted with a new revolutionary sensor will soon be able to take clear and sharp photos in dim conditions, thanks to a new image sensor invented at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

The new sensor made from graphene, is believed to be the first to be able to detect broad spectrum light, from the visible to mid-infrared, with high photoresponse or sensitivity. This means it is suitable for use in all types of cameras, including infrared cameras, traffic speed cameras, satellite imaging and more. Not only is the graphene sensor 1,000 times more sensitive to light than current imaging sensors found in today’s cameras, it also uses 10 times less energy as it operates at lower voltages. When mass produced, graphene sensors are estimated to cost at least five times cheaper.
