Became friends with him around '05, here in Chicago when I did a couple illustrations for ICE, International Contemporary Esamble, one of the projects he is part of, he is bloody hell talented, god he is good.
Very creative in his art undertakings.

This weekend he performs live with his New Millenium Orchestra an opera.

STAGED UPRISINGS

Oil On Canvas

This is the 6th & final installment of my ZONE5300 comic magazine interview posting series, so hereby the piece de la resistance.
This is from a theme I used a lot since day one, I must have painted like 10 versions in oil and a couple in acrylic.
The rockstar.
The painting has little symbolic references left and right, but the main ingredient could be the audience left bottom, without them he could fall pretty deep.

So thank you for being my audience for this posting series,
This Dutch comic magazine interview was pretty important for me, not only because I did their very first cover all those years ago, which became a semi legendary one,
but also from that little package of interviews I had throughout my life, this... more »

Harry the Intergalactic Milkman
Chris Berg
ink on paper CHICAGO

This comic's main theme deals with the genetic engineered Bio-industry
How we keep fucking with good old mama earth, for the good and bad.
Creating square tomatoes for easier distribution, the Hormone question.
MONSANTO screwing farmers over. Pesticide that takes on a horror movie ambiance. etc etc etc.

Scene from the comic.
Aliens arrive at an earth that's blocking their trading route, and if we cannot offer one thing that's pure and use-full, earth is going to get it.
The American government chooses MILK, after the aliens refused the initial offered OIL, what is more innocent than milk, babies grow up on that shit.

For all my DUTCH speaking fellow Googelurs, if you click on the link you can read the FULL UNCUT UNCENSORED version of my interview with comic magazine ZONE 5300, some cool pictures, photo's and even included some of my G+ illustrations.

The interview was done by my good friend +Robin Schouten who published in the 90s his own comic magazine 'INCOGNITO' which was my very first platform to experiment with the comic medium, one of the comics I published in that mag was my comic 'HARRY THE INTERGALACTIC MILKMAN' co written by my buddy Bram Spits.

Small extract from interview;
Nederland begon een beetje te klein te worden voor mij. Gevangen in dat kleine, natte kut-kikkerlandje was ik klaar om verder te 'vluchten'.
Het deed Van Gogh ook heel... more »

This is the photo they used in the Zone 5300 100th issue interview.
Customized RISK board games.

I repaint these boards, for clients, at the end nothing on the board is original anymore, these are boards no 5 and 6.
This all is a long story with a little semi cool past, why and how.
Skull, cannons, explosions, all sort of small illustration work,
the water is over the top in a organic flow, hand-lettered country names, even the border is painted over.
If i do a board for someone they can have their own choice of country names, it becomes more personal for the player.
I even adjust the theme on the board itself, like if someone loves WW2 or the Napoleon era, or even Lord Of The Rings, whatever, nothing is too crazy.
When finished it's a real painting, super 3D and... more »

Cover 1994
The very first cover of that magazine, I did, yours truly..
I know I shared this before, but to make an awesome story fuller.

This cover was made in clay placed in a cardboard box turned up-side down, hanged with wallpaper from an puppet-house shop, the floor is done out of ice lolly sticks and the carpet is a piece from a old trouser. All by hand!

Cheers my fellow GOOGELONIERS!

Rotterdam Holland Comic magazine
Just to show you got a SEMI rock-star in your midst;

I did the cover for their very first issue many, many years ago,
and in this issue I have been interviewed, with questions like;
*Why did I exchange beautiful cozy Holland for Hellish America?
*Are Americans evil?
*Did those weird Americans screw me over?
*And some questions about my work here.

Not only I'm proud that they featured me in that issue but the interview came out pretty good, pictures of my work and a nice photo of me.
Their anniversary issue just appeared in the book-shops & magazine stands, I know I shared a couple postings involving this subject,

I finally accepted the Computer world, the Internet, you tube and FaceBook etc etc, like an year ago, I did not want to, but people around kept pushing me....
Last summer my little brother in Holland requested via my Gmail an G+ friendship which I accepted, comunicating via the digital platform could save me minutes on the phone I thought, funny enough he never posted or commented anywhere.
Gee plus?, never heard off, he told me during an very long telephone-call we had just after Christmas, I called him to thank him for that awesome package full of cool dutch yummy treats he posted over the real mail to me:-)

Most of you out there will remember this G+junky series,  good times.

That cute sexy purple panda bear with an cowboy hat and dressed in a blue bikini

I said NO to a joint once.
Must have been at my monthly 'three and a half week long drink party' I had 2 days ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
I was flipping on some LSD, at least, I hoped it was just LSD, which I just bought from my sister an hour ago, and could barely distinguish reality from fantasy.
I kinda expected it had to be my fantasy because an purple panda bear in bikini and cowboy hat in front of me offered me a joint and last night I dreamed of that very same cute sexy purple panda bear giving me a great blow-job.

Just for the fun, sometimes here in the states I will add my native Dutch words into my work, often it gives that loving feeling of obscurity and semi weirdness.
Besides it's fun to see Americans struggle with the pronunciation of that weird language.

This Illustration I made especially for my FaceBook page when I entered that joyful magical world of digital sharemania, springtime last year.
When the summer rolled by I 'accidentally' entered G+.
As digital platform it couldn't be worse I thought, yes, FB connected me with my Dutch family and friends who are on that platform.

"Little orange royal EDDIE kitten"
Chris Berg 2009 Chicago
Acrylic in watercolor sketchbook

I thought it was time for an different G+page-opener, the illustration I used so far was a little too 'aggressive', besides it was an commissioned piece so it was not really me-me.

This came out of my 'water color sketchbook' originally an photo-book which was given by an friend who thought that that little pile of photo's of mine should be pasted down.
I just started painting in it, paper is horrible, thin, full of little holes etc. totally not made to smear paint in it, but I kept going.

homage to contemporary comic artist nr.1
Next to Brueghel, Bosch and Crumb the biggest influence on my life.
He died last year, normally I'm not that shocked when old people go, we all die one day, sure I'm devastated but life goes on, but......

The man was producing high quality masterpieces 'till the very end, which reminds us of other masters in the past, painters like Goya or Rembrandt, there was nothing else for them then their expression of creativity, sure there are other things to consider like family but at same time they were married to their work.
God, I can talk about him for hours, I know his story better than mine, we all know him as one of the original artists who started 'HEAVY METAL' magazine, 'Metal hurlant', if not then you have read his... more »

I know it's not Caturday, but I wanna share one of mine cat-stories

Cafe au lait, a ragdoll breed, I loved that cat, a real buddy, he was my roommate's cat but he loved me more, maybe because i worked from home all the time so we bounded like maniacs, I could do anything with him.

My roommate ordered him from a professional breeder and payed a lot of money for it, when he in the middle of winter arrived at O'hare airport here in Chicago, he was sick as a dog, first i thought he just had a cold but was in fact heavy sick and nearly died, after a stay at a vet-hospital i nursed him back to life, took months and it was pretty scary.
He eventually grew big and strong, thanks to him i experienced a feeling of that real comrade feeling many pet-owners talk about. Cafe au lait died last year on feline leukemia, I so miss that little guy.

Mijn ODE aan de grootste hededaagse poet +Tom Voute
Een extract uit zijn bestselling novel; .....WAKKER......

I was awake when Tom did it, it was like a nightmare, like a tape that got stuck, relentless, i was worried and just could not shake him out of it, I tried...........
and reached out with little comments,,,,,,
Every-time I think about it, chills run down my back, cold sweat I tell you.....
I close my eyes and see that word over and over again,,,,
,,,,wakker, wakker, wakker, wakker, wakker, wakker, wakker,,,,,,,,,,
Notification after notification, and the same comments would pop up,
I could not sleep last night, being worried about him,,,,,felt like I was trapped in a remake of  'the shining' and Tom was transferred into jack Nicholson, sitting there behind his old rusty typewriter, drinking Australian beer,typi... more »

In my very first week in America, more than 13 years ago, did not know Chicago, did not knew anybody here, had no idea, no real plans.
Arrived two weeks before Christmas, 500 bucks on the pocket, weather was freezing bitter, felt like a Charles Dickens chapter, good times.

I did not knew I got photographed, totally not posed.

At a little diner next to the artist building 'Flat Iron Building' in Wicker Park, Chicago, the little diner was pushed out of buisniss by the hardcore gentrification, the poor starving artist have to live in cheap neighborhoods, flairs up corners with murals, art-shows and festivals, sketching in the coffee-shops and turns the hood in a arty ambiance.. and then the yuppies come,,,,sundayartists,,,,,the local artist can't afford the suddenly exploded rent,,,Starbucks replaces the local coffee-joint where the walls were yours,,,,,,,, and it all... more »

By our friendly Roman Mademoiselle +Ajda Boksic Filipovic 2012

I have seen them around on the platform, you have seen them around, some of you actually took the time yourself, jolly good ol' folk dressing up their avatar in the seasonal festivities ambiance, I don't know if I would ever do something like that, as a matter of fact; I love it when my fellow Googelonier takes the time to do this kind of fun thing, I myself, never! Lazy I am.
But I loooooooove these, love it!

If I notified you, sorry to have bothered you, my (mutual with ajda) friend, but I wanna make sure some of you out there saw this, Ajda really really worked hard on this!
She did these while she was cooking (ovenstuff), hanging on the phone with an good friend from Belgium and watching... more »

STRAWBERRYQUEENWARRIOR
Three Floyds Beer Brewery - Munster Indiana
chris berg 2006 acrylic on paper

If you visited my homepage you have seen my cover-photo.
This was one of the first jobs I did for 3 Floyds, they like to experiment and they told me; 'in belgium there are different berry beers, but no strawberrybeers has been done, we are gonna try to make one for the fun'
They wanted it in an 'Frank Frazetta' style, fantasy themed.
That painter has been and still is in my top 10, so no problemo!

I don't think they ever used it, I guess the beer came out pretty bad, most probably there is an reason why the belgiums never made one.
They did paid me of-course and framed it, it's in their brewery pub which is covered with my work.
I love going there, getting drunk and 'lekker geilen' on my own work

Chris Berg watercolour on paper 2012

BANG!
I think it's a cutie, a little jewel, I'm proud of it if I may say so.
The pageopener especially for my 'xtra' page here on G+ painted with a lot of love while my stream floated by.

Hashishpiece
Chris Berg 2012
Acrylic and ink on paper + little photo collage, my own lettering

'Wenn Man Von Einem Unertraglichen Druck Loskommen Will,
So Hat Man Haschisch Notig'

It's an actuall quote by NIETZSCHE, a man who brought us incredible wisdom but also 100s of quotes like; 'If you stare into the abyss long enough the abyss stares back at you', etc.
I made this piece for an friends birthday last year.

Freely translated; 'When life becomes unbearable, Hash is necessary'.

Sometimes I come across on google+ posted stuff that inspires me to make an colorstudy of it, something unexpectedly which is one of the reasons why I joined this platform, you don't have to look it up, it just comes at ya, and would I look this up?
Could be just a photo of some silly little furry creature.

LORD NELSON bitter ale
This is an illustration I can show and share with my G+ buddies.
Beerlable illustration for THREE FLOYDS brewery and pub in Munster Ind. Acrylic on paper. 2009

I take pride in that I do also all lettering by hand, no computer, all painted!
They give me as illustrator full freedom, even their logo I transformed into my own choice, where I show one of my own characters; 'Harry the orange mutated octopus'. Even the trademark-logos I did myself, hah!
No use of black anywhere in this piece, all dark colors created.
Done some more for them like their anniversary beer.
B.t.w. the boat in the background is based on a painting by Van de Velde the Younger, 'cannon shot' 1670.

My real passion is oilpainting. cheers, talk to you later!     Groetjes!

GOOGELONIA anounchementione momento 2
acrylic on paper
Chris Berg 2012

WAUW, Holy shit! Kankerjantje! Jezusmekriebel! Goddamnit, Geezus!

I did it, posted 10 pages in a row, and two 2 color logo's.
8 totally new pages, and I discovered the G+ edit your own photo possebility. colored all pages, even went into the old stuff.
I was Illustrating and was edeting like a maniac, skipped a couple nights, was crumpy because of that, fucking up real jobs, fights with my girlfriend, etc. but I gave my GOOGELONIA profile a real soul.
I even hoped that some of you see the consistancy in the illustrations.

So here I will continue my G+junky series, an awesome dark humorfull comic about accepting something I was pretty judgemental about untill I tried it for the fun and fell in love with, the 'being cozy on the internationale digitale chat platform'!... more »
