+Google+ API please, it's been a while... the one thing that's really preventing any kind of mass adoption is the ability to transition out of the social media accounts people already use, which is perfectly do-able with an API posting to multiple locations from one app.

Much better JPEG compression

His team has done something quite remarkable. It makes JPEGs at about 1/5th the size of JPEG's compressed with other techniques. Go there and try it. Hey, +Thomas Hawk and +Trey Ratcliff you should check this out.

How does it do it?

It compresses each piece of the image using different quality levels with no degradation in image quality. I just tried it and it's quite remarkable. I'll get an interview up with Dror soon where we talk more about this company.

Wikipedia blacks out, but not as we expected. All that has been implemented is an extra overlay div and some CSS display="none;" options (hence the site appearing for a brief moment before it goes dark).
Luckily, someone has already created a Chrome extension to get around it!

Lossy image compression is gaining in popularity. Good thing too! We love our photos, but we also value fast load times.

github.com/rflynn/imgmin is a very interesting project at automating lossy compression. Read through the readme; my favorite part is what JPEG quality large sites target:

Google Images thumbnails: 74-76
Facebook full-size images: 85
Yahoo frontpage JPEGs: 69-91
Youtube frontpage JPEGs: 70-82
Wikipedia images: 80
Windows live background: 82
