Am I the only one?

So far this new G+ layout seems to be broken in pretty much in all aspects...

There seems to be no new posts, stream does not update except 3-9 new posts every few hours. After I update it, most posts are from previous 3 to 19 hours...

Am I experiencing the "ghost town" syndrome here? It's pretty hard to discuss with people if there are no new topics. And I'm following roughly 2000 people here...

+Jaana Nyström You certainly know what has changed here, so is there something I should check out?

Short "commercial" about fast food that is advertised like hottest technology out there... ;) While I don't use products from either company, this was still pretty good.

Finally, after several years of thinking about getting more "old-school" tools for shaving my beard, I bought them. So if I suddenly turn into faceless monsterman, you know why...

Efficiency in action

Huge sinkhole got fixed in under a week... Can't understand how they planned this and implemented it in such tight schedule.

Five days of round-the-clock work to repair the huge sinkhole in Fukuoka. That's pretty quick by any standard. The machines are running round the clock; I guess they had rotating crews.

Watched Trading Places yesterday

Two ruthless millionaires place bet that they can ruin one man's life and make another man successful with some of their help. Soon these two find out how life is when you end up in poverty or have practically everything.

Good script, good acting and lots of comedy moments. Very entertaining movie. Not for smallest family members. Recommended.

Watched also Mama

After stock market crash, father kills colleagues and his ex-wife. Then he kidnaps his small children and droves off to remote cabin and tries to kill them all. Before completing his action, "Mama" appears and takes care of the children. Years later kid's uncle finds them and tries to raise them back in civilization, but "Mama" has followed them...

Good plot (some plot holes), decent acting, good suspense feeling through movie and decent effects. Very dark-themed movie and some sad moments. Recommended for all horror/suspense fans.

Watched also Zombie Hunter...

After zombie invasion, lone avenger travels the earth and kills zombies. Eventually he stumbles upon small group of survivors and together they try to survive...

Non-existent plot, crappy acting, horrible affects and bad movie overall. I can't figure out anything good from this... Danny Trejo was only poster boy for this movie. Avoid at all costs.

You've to be kidding me...

When I get notified about new posts (roughly 3-9 posts and few hours between notifications) I get this... Seriously 3 new posts and right after I click to see them, they are 5h old???

How this is possible? I follow plenty of people but I see only 20 to 50 "new posts" per day. If I change back into classic G+ I see more posts and from people I know better (as their posts get more screentime in old version).

No wonder I've been hanging in Twitter lately...

Watched 300: Rise of an Empire last night

While King Leonidas was struggling with 300 brave Spartan warriors against mighty Persian army led by Xerxes, there was great naval battles going on elsewhere. Greek general Themistokles is trying to repel 100 times greater fleet which is under the command of Artemisia, one of the closest generals of Xerxes.

Nice effects and really nice screen colors. Story limps forward like Ephialtes, acting is blunt and rigid and historical facts are nowhere to be seen. Otherwise this is quite enjoyable action film, despite the fact that it was filmed entirely in the green room and water wasn't near the set.

Recommended for action/gore fans. Watch once and forget.

Watched Scanners last night

Small group of people have psychic abilities, some weaker and some far beyond comprehension. One of the strongest ones of them has plans for humankind and people who are studying these people known as 'scanners' are trying to stop him. Soon they have their own agent trying to infiltrate underground psychic movement...

Decent plot, great effects (for the time), acting is below average and some events are far from plausible. But this is pretty entertaining movie and recommended for all sci-fi fans.

First watch that I sold

I just managed to sell this watch that I bought at the start of the summer. Really excellent timekeeper, withstands bit rougher activities and is really good-looking... ;)

If you're looking for watch that is bit bulky, but does it's job perfectly I can recommend Seiko SRP309 (aka Orange Monster 2nd generation).

Smörgåstårta

This time I made this pretty quick smörgåstårta, I filled it with metworst, ginger/lemongrass cheese spread and tzatziki cheese spread. Some cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices for toppings and I was done.

Everyone said it was delicious (like always when I do these) and it disappeared quite fast. So another success story for me! ;)

Watched Interstellar last night.

Earth is failing and crops are dying. Probably last generation of humans will die from starvation and suffocation as oxygen levels drop. However there are mission to save humankind with bold plan to travel through wormhole. Soon former pilot finds himself in spaceship's cockpit.

Good effects, plausible story, decent acting and pretty faithful physics in this one. Geek in me was very pleased after watching this. While there were some minor details that annoyed me (including orange tan of McConaughey) I enjoyed this very much. Recommended for sci-fi fans or physic enthusiasts.

Just watched Nemesis

Alex Rain, LAPD cop who has some cyborg parts in him stands between order and terrorist forces. Soon he finds out that cyborgs are having plans for humanity and he doesn't know who to trust.

Lots of action. Lots of shooting and explosions. Some nudity and foul language. For early 90's action/sci-fi silm this is pretty good. Some crude effects and tacky dialog, but they come with movie's age. Recommended for all cyberpunks!

Month of disc golf madness

Whew! During July, I have visited 21 totally new ranges for me all the way from Naantali to Joutseno. Some of these were really great and I do want to go there back again. Some were just insults towards all sport-related things and should be avoided like a plague.

And while I was touring new ranges, I also visited old familiar ones too. That makes 26 different ranges total. I probably will never, ever again be able to top this record of mine.

Good ranges:
Söderkulla, short but excellent forest surroundings.
Myllymäki, probably best range I've ever visited?
Veikkola, good one with lots of different courses.
Mukkula, especially those courses in woods...
Mäntsälä, decent range with sand and woods.
Orimattila, pretty good range with height differences.
Ruissalo, nice courses in forest areas, fields bitbori... more »

Not so good ranges:
Jaala, short and crappy range, avoid at all costs!
Luumäki, short and simple range, but some weird courses.
Pajulahti, 18 holes averaging 40 meters. No challenge.

My step counter has been going insane as I've walked roughly 3x as much as in normal month. And I've enjoyed every one of those steps.___

Those Latitude64 stamps are really challenging as they either won't come off or then they're so deep stamped that new image spreads into unwanted direction.

Watched Gravity last night.

During simple maintenance flight of Hubble Space Telescope, astronauts end up in debris cloud that breaks their flight back home. Soon they find out that they're adrift in space and must find they way back home...

Great effects, nothing more. Story doesn't hold (if you don't know physics then this doesn't matter) and acting is mediocre. This might be entertaining for sake of space effects and some thrilling moments. Only for people who want to see mainstream sci-fi.

Watched Terminator Genisys last night.

Skynet, the AI responsible for Judgment day that killed most of people and started long war between humans and machines does last offense before falling. Humans try to stop Terminator sent into past by sending human to stop it. After Kyle Reese arrives into 1984 he finds out that history has already changed from what he had been told...

Ok effects, decent story and decent acting. Practically this is reboot for Terminator franchise by adding several other timelines into known universe. Some stuff is left unexplained and possible sequels are left open. Rather weak movie as Terminator, but decent sci-fi otherwise.

I've been lucky

Couple weeks ago, new summer sausages started to roll onto store shelves. I usually test most of them to find out if there are any really good ones that are invited into my grill during summer.

I found out about one brand new cheese-jalapeno sausage that is collaboration between one traditional meat company and one record label. It was pretty good and contained a competition where you could win cap, t-shirt, cd or festival tickets. I got two shirts and one cap from first three packages. Pretty lucky. Now I have 1/250 of all those shirts...

And for those who don't speak/read Finnish... 'Iso lerssi' translates quite directly into 'big wiener'... ;)

Classic paintings named with programming twist

Haha, I laughed at some of these... How well do they fit into modern times.

If McDonald's Advertised Like Apple

Short "commercial" about fast food that is advertised like hottest technology out there... ;) While I don't use products from either company, this was still pretty good.

New watch

Got new watch to play with. I've been pondering to move into automatic watches and I got this monster to start with. Cheap, but nice looking skeleton watch. This is huge one, I can feel the weight on my arm...

Don't know if this is true story or not, but at least it's entertaining short story with some sci-fi spin in it...

I’m typing this on February 27, 2016. Today was my last day at Facebook. I turned in my badge and my laptop and I walked onto Willow Road with a flash drive containing the images you’ll see below.___Julie Rubicon

U.S. Elections seen by Finns

As here is more and more posts about on-going political struggle in U.S., I thought that I should share some of it too. Here's pretty funny report about those election campaigns.

Funny in Finnish, luckily it's subtitled (actual translation!) for English-speaking audiences. And yes, our news reports are like these. ;)

New shaving equipment

Finally, after several years of thinking about getting more "old-school" tools for shaving my beard, I bought them. So if I suddenly turn into faceless monsterman, you know why...
