Everyone once in a while I use a stock browser without AdBlock, with the crappy default popup blocking, and plugins like Flash enabled. The experience makes me want to smash my computer. I can't believe that normal people can even use the web with user experiences like that.

I have some mixed feelings about the acquisition. I'd hate to see the obnoxious Waze Taco Bell ads expand to popups from every adsense customer I drive anywhere near. But I guess I trust Google to incorporate advertising without wrecking the usability.
I am really excited about Waze getting access to the Google map data. I love using Waze but sometimes their map data sends me on long detours.

I have a feeling I'm going to really be wishing Apple had a way to let us put multiple IPAs in the App Store for a single app SKU - one for iOS 6 and lower and another for iOS 7 and up. I've wanted that for iPad, retina iPad, and retina iPhone to cut down on useless images in a multi-device package, but now it would solve even more problems. #iOS7

Not a big fan of the new iOS look. The icons look the worst and some apps look great, but it looks even less consistant now. Just look at a screen like this and try to understand that's all from one single device, with an Apple-controlled UI: http://t.co/N8t0wwHvNc

The transparent UI elements might be good in places, but that's something Microsoft already did in Vista and 7 but moved away from partially for performance and battery life. The parallax and a whole lot of other visual elements look very much like Windows Phone and Windows 8. 

I love multiple page support in Folders, especially since I keep a ton of apps on my phone. I hope that's a feature that make it onto the iPhone 4S, because other features like AirDrop won't. I hope there's some technical limitation I don't see that prevents that, but it just sounds like baiting 4S owners to upgrade sooner.T... more »

Really interesting look at what XPC on iOS could accomplish. I would so love to say goodbye to URL schemes and finally have something as good as (or better?) than Android intents and Windows contracts. Opening up the notification center would be great too and somewhat addresses the issue of not having widgets. But what if SpringBoard (the iOS launcher) had a way to load a remote view controller instead of an icon? Boom - widgets on the iOS home screen.

Kickstarter for a LEGO Mindstorms NXT interface board for the Raspberry Pi. It's a neat way to make robotics with the Pi simple and relatively cheap. There's even a stretch goal to get to 5 sensor ports and 4 motor ports.

It's 2013 - why does installing app updates in the background bring the Android UI to a halt? It doesn't on any other platform I use.

That's an amazing piece of hardware for the price. Remember that it's not subsidized by a cell phone carrier, ebook store, music store, or app store and they still managed to undercut competitors by $50 or more.

My team's Red Bull Creation 2013 video is now live and submitted. It's been a challenging couple of weeks, but we're pretty happy with the end result. We're already looking at dates to do another demo and just play with our creation. 

We're also moving forward with efforts to open a real hackerspace in Tampa.

For those of you who play tech support for friends and family, there’s now a Hangouts app to make things easier -- powered by the same technology behind Chrome Remote Desktop. 

Hangouts Remote Desktop lets you help others by controlling their computer remotely (with their permission, of course). And because you’re both in a Hangout, you can talk with and see each other during the session.

To get started, just start a Hangout and click View More Apps > Add Apps > Hangouts Remote Desktop.

This is pretty interesting. The project itself is a great use of the Raspberry Pi, but it's great viral marketing. I don't think I've even heard of doctape before this article, but now I'm checking them out. If startups want to build and showcase neat Raspberry Pi projects to draw attention, I'm all for it.

Got my PiFace Digital board today. Still installing the software tools and trying it out. These will really simplify hardware hacking with the Raspberry Pi. I'll have to raid the kids' pile of broken toys.

Sequestration grounds famous US Navy Blue Angels

+NBC News : The remainder of the 2013 US Navy Blue Angels season has been canceled due to budget constraints caused by sequestration.

The Blue Angels were scheduled to perform their famous acrobatic maneuvers and high-flying formations at dozens of festivals and air shows across the country. 

“The squadron will continue to train to maintain flying proficiency until further notice at its home station in Pensacola, Fla.,” the Navy said.

Today is the first day of Camp NaNoWriMo, a way to do the National Novel Writing Month in a month that doesn't include the Thanksgiving holiday. I think I'll sit this one out, but my wife and daughter are doing it. (Pro tip: if you have kids younger than teenagers, it's very hard for both parents to attempt NaNoWriMo at the same time.)
