Empty Nest

3 weeks ago still giant eggs.  Hatched less than 2 weeks ago.  This Saturday the 2 Mourning Dove chicks are about the business of being independent!  Still slightly smaller than the mating pair we hope to spot them for a few more times.

True Talent Must be Supported

It takes a remarkable talent to create a new way of doing something that millions of others strive to do. Every child who picks up a guitar (myself included) dreams of being a rockstar, but most of us learn to mimic those who have gone before.

But every now and then, someone comes along and decides to be different.

Many of them fade away, because their version of "different" inspires nobody.

But once in a lifetime, if we're lucky, there comes along someone like +Preston Reed.

Mourning Dove Eggs

Over a week ago, a Mourning Dove settled into the hanging basket about a foot outside my office window.  The eggs are quite large relative to the size of the Dove.  Mama Dove sits serenely with one eye on me but when she took a short break, I caught this photo with my new Nikon D7100.

No cats allowed in the office until further notice.

Help get the bad guys out of my body

Reportedly none of the Silicon Valley VCs who saw the 5 year old Rhett's pitch turned it down.   

Rhett's video recruited more than 20 of the top VCs to offer themselves in auctions for lunch dates to benefit the Bay Area Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. 

About Rhett: Diagnosed with acute leukemia after suddenly falling ill watching the San Francisco Giants win the 2010 pennant on their way to becoming World Series Champions.  After many treatments since then his prognosis is good. His biggest dream, besides beating cancer, is to meet the Giants.

Beltain - Brilliant Fire - on May 1st - is a celebration of fertility, and the festival of Bel - Bright One - and his tain (Welsh tan) fire. May Day is still celebrated in many cultures around the world, a festival of the green-budding, brightly blossoming new life that arrives each year with such beauty and vitality.

Hooded Orioles

My day is made! +George Cohn spotted our pair of Hooded Orioles sipping nectar from the bright red pineapple sage blossoms on our patio.  They are very shy nesting high in our palm trees.  They have a charming distinctive whistling call.
