Supercelle, tempeste in rotazione: uno dei fenomeni che più mi affascinano! Queste tempeste si formano in condizioni di elevata instabilità e forti venti, che possono occupare diversi chilometri. Nelle supercelle è normale che compaiano correnti interne rotatorie. La polvere portata dal vento e la pioggia dominano il centro dell'immagine e sulla destra si vede un albero solitario. Uno stupefacente iceberg a strisce colorate !!
La fotografia è stata scattata nella regione antartica, a circa 2.700 chilometri a sud di Città del Capo, Sud Africa. A prima vista, questa immagine potrebbe sembrare non genuina e alcuni commentatori hanno suggerito che è stata ritoccata come Photoshop. Tuttavia, tali iceberg effettivamente esistono e la fotografia è autentiche. Nel marzo 2008 questa foto ( insieme ad altre) è stata riportata anche dal “Times” di Londra.
Ma come si formano questo strisce multicolori? Secondo il governo australiano Antarctic Division:

Ecco una delle vere ricchezze dell'Italia!
Qui vediamo Vernazza che si trova nel parco nazionale delle Cinque Terre , un'area naturale protetta resa parco nazionale nel 1999 e che si trova in Liguria, in provincia della Spezia. Il parco comprende, oltre al territorio dei tre comuni delle Cinque Terre (Riomaggiore, Vernazza e Monterosso), una porzione dei comuni di Levanto (Punta Mesco) e della Spezia (Campiglia Tramonti . Si può suddividere in due parti: la zona costiera, il vero e proprio parco nazionale, e la zona marina, l'area naturale marina protetta. Caratteristico il tratto costiero delle Cinque Terre con i monti che giungono a picco sul mare creando una costa unica nel suo genere.

In questa foto scattata in Florida (USA) da Ken Rotberg si può vedere un fenomeno meteorologico raro. Si chiama fuoco arcobaleno, anche se non ha nulla a che fare con l'arcobaleno tradizionale. I colori in questi casi sono causati dalla rifrazione della luce nei cristalli di ghiaccio formata sopra i cirri . Il fenomeno è abbastanza raro, perché i cristalli di ghiaccio devono essere allineati orizzontalmente per rifrangere il sole, che dovrebbe essere in alto nel cielo, almeno 58 ° sopra l'orizzonte

Galoppa sfrenato e senza meta
focoso sauro sulla verde prateria,
poi di colpo si ferma ed annusa l'aria,
come avesse percepito un richiamo.
Nitrisce, ascolta, scuote la testa

L'Ushiku Daibutsu è una grande statua dell'Amitabha Buddha che si trova in Giappone nella città di Ushiku, prefettura di Ibaraki. Daibutsu significa "grande Buddha" in giapponese, per cui il nome significa "Grande Buddha di Ushiku". Completata nel 1995, ha un'altezza di 110 metri, ed è la terza statua più alta del mondo. Si tratta di un evento raro in calanchi dello Utah che si verifica ogni 5/6 anni, quando le condizioni sono perfette, le terre aride si ricoprono di questo tappeto viola che dopo pochi giorno diventa giallo e dopo 2 settimane è tutto finito! Il calanchi è un tipo di terreno a secco dove le rocce sedimentarie più morbide e terreni ricchi di argilla sono state ampiamente erose dal vento e dall'acqua. Canyon, gole, burroni, hoodoos e altre forme simili geologiche sono comuni nei calanchi.

Nella foto sopra, la lava incandescente illumina i fianchi di questo vulcano di 5000 metri di altezza. Attorno alla cima si notano delle leggiadre nuvole bianche e sullo sfondo il cielo stellato. Congratulazioni al coraggioso fotografo, Patrick Taschler!

Gullfoss (dall'islandese: gull "dorato" e foss "cascata") è una delle più note cascate dell'Islanda sud-occidentale, lungo il percorso del fiume Hvítá nel Haukadalur. Le acque tumultuose del fiume Hvítá compiono due salti di 11m e 21m di altezza e proseguono poi in una stretta e profonda gola che si apre nell'altipiano. Questo affascinante fenomeno è stato recentemente catturato dal fotografo Bertrand Kulik a Parigi, Francia. Secondo Robert Nemiroff e Jerry Bonnell di Astronomy Picture NASA del giorno (APOD):
"Ciò che è nella foto sopra è in realtà solo un arcobaleno comune. Il suo aspetto non comune è causato dal Sole insolitamente alto nel cielo durante la creazione dell'arcobaleno.Dal momento che ogni arcobaleno deve essere esattamente opposto al sole, un sole alto che si riflette su una pioggia lontana produrrà un arcobaleno basso in cui solo la parte superiore è visibile molto - perché il resto del l'arcobaleno è sotto l'orizzonte."

Essere al posto giusto nel momento giusto!
Il fotografo Bruno Gerber si trovava su una terrazza sul tetto a una festa di un amico a Berna in Svizzera quando ha visto la luna con le Alpi svizzere in background. Lui ha notato subito la gru in primo piano, ha cercato il giusto allineamento e..questo è il risultato!

Isola di Wight
In questa isola si svolge un famosissimo festival di musica rock che si tiene ogni anno . Dopo le prime tre edizioni degli anni dal 1968 al 1970, il festival è rinato nel 2002. L'edizione più nota fu sicuramente quella del 1970.Seguita da 600.000 persone e documentata dal film di Murray Lerner Message To Love: The Isle Of Wight . L'edizione del 1970 è rimasta famosa per essere stata l'ultima grande esibizione pubblica di Jimi Hendrix prima della sua morte, ma anche quale ultima apparizione del gruppo dei Doors con Jim Morrison in Europa, nonché per quelle degli Who, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Jethro Tull, Free, Ten Years After, Joan Baez, Moody Blues, Donovan, ELP, Leonard Cohen, e molti altri. Glicini, un magico mondo di colori in primavera
Questo genere di piante comprende una decina di specie di viti rampicanti. Il glicine è originario del Nord America e dellì Asia orientale. Questi arbusti legnosi rampicanti sono coltivati per la decorazione per gli abbondanti fiori (viola, blu e bianco in particolare) e il gran numero di foglie. I maestri nel loro uso nel giardinaggio sono i giapponesi, che chiamano queste piante fuji. I tunnel creati da queste piante sono usati per creare zone d'ombra da oltre cento anni. Guardate che meraviglia!
Questa fotografia ci mostra una grotta di ghiaccio all'interno del ghiacciaio Svmnafellsjvkull in Islanda, Parco Nazionale di Skaftafell. Questa grotta si è formata nel corso di centinaia di anni e fa parte di un ghiacciaio situato sulle pendici del vulcano Vrffajvkull.
La pressione ha compresso il ghiaccio, spingendo l'aria, e creando questi colori intensi
