Oh Internet 

This photo (originally posted via my instagram feed) was taken behind the scenes, at one of my work-flow environments.  Displaying the network switch and post-switch bundle of a medium size intranet (50+ host on-site, 500-1000 hosts in total on intranet) . The eyes of a non-geeks may view this merely as an entanglement of wires. The eyes of a Geek/Technology enthusiast could view this as a working piece of art. While an Networking IT may view this simply a bundle of work. Next to this Network switch and bundle of LAN cables, sat a simple analog telephony switch. A piece of hardware that looked completely obsolete and resembled something from the dark ages. Non the less the Internet has grown at a tremendous velocity and its mind blowing to imagine a few decades from know this networking setup will be clunky and obsolete piece of hardware. Home-Brew Custom LED Enclosure From Junk Parts

Hands down I am a mad scientist at heart. The internet has only fueled my desire to tinker, experiment and mod. Somewhere along the way, most likely during an all nighter, in where I get stuck reading in search to learn something new. I discovered LED's. LED's have been around a long time and have been integrated into our daily lives. So deeply Integrated that you probably do not even notice that your consumer product it lit from these diodes. 

Even though LED's have been out for more then a decade, premade setups are still pretty expensive. I learned that you can buy a bag of 100 LED's off ebay for the same price that a 20 diode premade strip would cost you. Discovering Google's Account Activity beta

I have always been a huge fan of Google's service of personal data statistics. I think my turning point, in which I completely jumped on board with their personal data tracking, was with Google's Latitude. I had just acquired my first Android Smart-phone and took a cross country road trip from Baltimore, MD to Seattle, Washington. Google and its latitude service followed me the entire way and back to Baltimore, MD! It was awesome to recap the journey! After that I enabled every history function they offered (more on my thoughts on tracking in my conclusion of this post).

Youtube Goes Down and Comes Back Up

#youtube  threw a HTTP 500 Server Error for about 5 to 7 minutes. Quickly lighting up Twitter and Google+ of questions and comments on the situation. At the time of this post,Youtube has not commented on the matter but was able to quickly resolve the situation. 

I am curious in how much traffic was lost during this small window of downtime. So to spare myself any flaming, it probaly is just a #google  search away!

Finally updated the blog! I am sure it will take Google Bot some time to index this granted its 2 month stale condition. None the less check it out!

Samsung Pays Apple $1 Billion Sending 30 Trucks Full of 5 Cents Coins

This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially,  the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that  they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.

the funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best. 

This dirty but genius geek troll play is a new headache to Apple executives as they will need to put in long hours counting all that money, to check if it is all there and to try to deposit it crossing fingers tohope... more »

Piecon: Pie charts in your favicon

This neat little javascript library allows for dynamically generating progress pie charts in your favicons. It is fairly plug & play and easy to implement. It could make a nice compliment to a website that was suited.

Fake Twitter Follower Check

This clever tool by the Social Media company #statuspeople   enables you to check any #twitter  username to view the authenticity of the follower base. 

Not only is the tool a great idea, but it definitely will give some insight on those people that do not really tweet out anything substantial but some how have 20K+ followers. Before I write those people off as "those people" that purchase #spam  followers. Well give them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps they are followed by a niche group of folks that think the same way. A map of American state stereotypes, generated by Google auto-complete

I found this article to be fairly interesting as the author +Renee DiResta played around with Google's #autocomplete  search function and related the auto-complete results to be stereotypes of the states. One could presume that she was spot on. She starts by entering "Why is States Name So" and displays the results in a nice map/chart API. She also mentions that she began focusing on variables such as cultural, cost of living and negative/positive connotations and compiled them into categories. The categories are displayed by neat little graphics
and the charts API were complements of +Justin Hileman
