And it is not only Google that has a limited view of what consists a user identity. The language problem, for instance, has not been addressed properly by anyone. A user can have a mother tongue and speak fluently a couple of others. Naturally, he would like to build his network connections in a way that segregates languages. Posting in a language should automatically be visible only to those that have opted in for this language. Not to mention the inability to merge and/or migrate accounts, which is a universal plague.

Leave a flower for a deceased Google product on this virtual graveyard

From the website:
It’s hard to lose a loved one, especially if that loved one is a Google service. That’s why we’re opening the gates of the Google Graveyard, a virtual space for grieving. Buried in these hallowed grounds are some of Google’s ill-fated services.

Some, like Google Reader, lived long, prosperous lives, full of admiration and glory. Most, like Google Wave and Google Buzz, struggled to carve out a place in this harsh, unforgiving world where technologies continuously clash and innovation reigns king. But whether these services transformed our productivity or only polluted our inboxes, they all touched our world in some way.

Head over to http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/map_of_the_week/2013/03/google_reader_joins_graveyard_of_dead_google_products.html and clickon a grav... more »

Does anyone else find that each successive release of Mac OS X gets worse, more Windows-like in its obscurity, its tendency to hide affordances that were once a joy to the advanced user, more buggy, more user-hostile, with more attempts to lock you into Apple's own apps. I'm starting to hate Mac OS X, and thinking there's starting to be an opportunity for a new, simple, clean OS to come along.

Right now, since I've switched to Gmail, I'm trying to back up and remove from my machine years of accumulated mail storage from mail.app. First obstacle: a user's library files are now hidden. Finally find them (thanks Matt Silver), back up the files to an external disk, and then delete them. But then when I empty the trash, an ungodly number of files--going back years--claim they are "in use" and can't be deleted. So here I am having to click "continue"... more »

Guilt Through Algorithmic Association

You're a 16-year-old Muslim kid in America. Say your name is Mohammad Abdullah. Your schoolmates are convinced that you're a terrorist. They keep typing in Google queries likes "is Mohammad Abdullah a terrorist?" and "Mohammad Abdullah al Qaeda." Google's search engine learns. All of a sudden, auto-complete starts suggesting terms like "Al Qaeda" as the next term in relation to your name. You know that colleges are looking up your name and you're afraid of the impression that they might get based on that auto-complete. You are already getting hostile comments in your hometown, a decidedly anti-Muslim environment. You know that you have nothing to do with Al Qaeda, but Google gives the impression that you do. And people are drawing that conclusion. You write to Google but nothing comes of it.... more »

How to find out who has you in a circle but you don't:

Go to Circles, click People who have added you and then short by Not yet in circles.
Mind that this sorting is misleading: it actually sorts all the people who have added you by the number of circles you have them in. So, in case you do not have them in any circles they surface on the top. Then come those in 1 circle, those in 2 etc.

(this is a summary from a previously asked and answered question)

From the G+ content policies:
*8. Ranking Manipulation

Do not manipulate ranking or relevancy using techniques like repetitive or misleading keywords or metadata.*

I bet this will work more like a suggestion.

Considering how many times blogging has been declared dead, it is a surprise that ppl even bother to consider a new mean as ideal for blogging. I am talking about Kevin Rose's idea of forwarding his personal blog to G+ of course.
