German Publishers Demand License Fee For Snippets

Do you blog? It's likely, then, that you occasionally quote other people's work — with the proper attributions, of course. Laws are now being proposed that would demand a license fee be paid for them if you have ads on your blog.

They went after Google, and this is what happened

German publishers have realised that Google would probably rather close down its Google News site in Germany than pay for each snippet, and so they have decided to go after an Internet group who make up in numbers what they lack in revenue: German users of blogs, Facebook and Twitter.

Employment is not a priority: The policies and practice standards of the public mental health system, vocational rehabilitation and workforce services do not recognize the harmful effects of long-term unemployment. Therefore, supporting employment has not been a priority. 

Charity for the unfortunate is a noble practice, but condemning vast segments of the eligible work force to government reliance only produces subsistent survival. Note the concept "psychiatric disabilities" that breeds the acceptance that permanent unemployment is thenew normal. N... more »
