I'm hearing that some of the Steubenville students are complaining that no one explained to them that the behavior could be considered rape or that there could be legal consequences for what they do.

* This is what happens when we constantly tell women how they are responsible for not getting raped.

* This is what happens when much of sex and sexuality is learned through the fiction of tv shows, movies, books, pornography, and the like.

* This is what happens when those media predominately show cases of people taking advantage of those who are unconscious and frame it as "good fun" or "just a joke."

Sure, watching a single movie about robbing a bank might not lead one to rob a bank. But having much of the media we consume portray sexual assault and/or rape as "good fun" or something that women secret want does lead people to... more »

I know the following will get me unfollowed by a lot of people here on Google+ because that is the kind of community that it is.

Now I was going to just let this one go by and not comment, but then I kept seeing the debate out there amongst my fellow bloggers and advocates and thought I would say a little something. First let me start off with a little hard truth.

There are a lot of people, both men and women, that woke up today and realized that they have been guilty of rape in their lives. Statistics indicate that more than a few of them are right here on Google+.
Now let that sink in for a moment.

Apparently very few people care about underage drinking. I am guessing because most are guilty of it themselves. How many people here started drinking heavily at 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, or younger? Let that sink in for a bit.

"There's No Market For Girl Stuff."

Okay, for the record?  The "there's no market for woman/feminist-favoring products" line of thinking is OFFICIALLY HORSECRAP.  And it's pissing me off.

I hold up as a very specific counter-argument... the American manga industry.

For decades, Comics has been the bastion of the White Man.  Most of the heroes are white men, most of the female characters are primarily there to serve as sex objects for male hetero readers (look, I love comics, but we HAVE to be honest with ourselves about this), and most of the plotlines are firmly along Manly Adventure lines.  Both in terms of their hiring practices and marketing strategy, American Comics did everything short of put up a "NO ICKEY GIRLS WANTED HERE" sign.  There were always exceptions to that rule, but those were quite rare.

Samsung is hurting Android - Motorola can save it

I agree. Samsung has from the beginning used Android as base platform for it's low cost and completely ignored the Google ecosystem and failed to be a team player. They have redundant services and apps that only serve to confuse consumers and hurt the Android brand. They also use their customizations to delay updates and drive new sales. This is IMO Google's largest failure with Android. That being not retaining more control over how OEM's use the platform. Samsung cares no more about Android than a chef cares about the flour in his cake.
Google has to turn Motorola into the mobile company they once were. They must to build truly great Pure Android products that not only attract consumers, but set the standard by which other Android platforms will be judged. If they fail to do this, Android will die of fragmentation... more »

Women that are strippers, porn stars, and prostitutes those are upstanding professions that empower women.

When you see stuff like this maybe some people do need to be taught some behavior. Not only the boys in question but all the children around when I believe included many girls.

And that is why that conversation is so stupid. More than just boys do things wrong, plenty of girls are right along with them. Too many people are still holding on to the belief that only boys do bad things and girls are sweet and innocent. 

The fact that so many stood by and did nothing to help this girl should make all of us feel ashamed and make us as the question what are we teaching our children not only in those parent talks but with our actions, because there are more than a few people here on Google+ that post the same kind of pictures every single day that are just like this of real people making fun of them.

What is with all the white men attacking my African American sisters?

Michelle Obama, Condi Rice, Susan Rice, Zerlina Maxwell, and Goldie Taylor just to name a few; have all been attacked for no good reason as if they are too uppity. I guess they still think of them as a bunch of mammies that need to sit down, be quiet, and no there role.  

I am going to need some of my Black brothers and sisters to step out of the fantasy world and stand up against this nonsense. If we don't stand for up for ourselves we really have no room to complain when others disregard and disrespect us.
