A recent shot from Iceland. I have been busy for a long period now...shooting a bunch of stuff so i now have a shitload of photos to share the coming months. Starting off with this little snap from Jokulsarlon, Iceland. My landscapes are leaning more and more to a dramatic atmosphere. I tend to be more and more intrigued by moody and threatening landscapes. So i loved it when i had great drama to work with at this beach...

I put on my skiis and set a new intergalactic record in order to get to this spot... Just in time...since 5 minutes later it was all over..

Pungdalstinden Mountain
Pungdalstinden mountain (1262m) is one of the highest mountains in my region. It is also one of the most impressive. It rises about 900 meters up from where i shot this. This mountain in HUGE.. I hiked a total of 25 kilometers in demanding terrain to capture this shot. A shot i had visioned for a long time. The gloomy weather and fallcoulors created just the atmosphere i was after..

Norwegian Midnight
I shot this right before midnight last week. This is the peak of one of the highest mountains in the area, Lilletinden (1134m / 3720`)
The light was absolutely incredible, the view was stunning and well worth 5 hours of pain. No sign of summer though...
This is a single shot. No filters used... Canon 5d & 16-35
Take care!

4 minutes
Shot s few days ago. Feels so good to be able to shoot without having to freeze my ass off in the dark, or using 6000 calories climbing up a snowy mountain. This one was taken right next to the road...comfy and good :-)

Night by the Lake
This one was taken during the magnificent solar storm on january 22nd. I was followed by a reporter doing a feature on me and my auroroadventures...we camped out by this gorgeous lake. The temperature was freezing cold this night, but lots of whisky kept us both warm and comfortable. I decided to work mostly with this area that had really thin ice...i mean REALLY thin ice. I laid down on my belly and moved like a penguin to get to the best angles.
The reporter got his story..and i got the shot i was after. You cant ask for more...
Hope u like it!

Winter Snake
Taken after a long and tiring climb to the top of one of the many mountains in my area. This is right after sunset...i stayed up there until darkness fell. Quite challenging to ski down the mountain in darkness..

In the Deep
A shot from a few nights ago. I finally managed to get the shot i have been chasing for the last 3 years. (this shot isn`t it...) I will post that one later.. Anyway, this is also one that i liked quite a bit. I had been standing for over an hour just waiting for the aurora to pick up again. The whole evening was like that..wait for an hour...BAM the sky explodes for a few minutes...and then wait for another eternity. At least it feels like an eternity when youre freezing your butt off and staring into a more or less black wall.
Hope you like this one...pay attention to the lovely iceicles hanging down towards the river...

Tjeldsund Bridge
One of the few shots i was able to capture when the clouds broke for a minutes on jan 24th. This is the impressive Tjeldsund Bridge in Northern Norway. It connects Norways largest island Hinnøya with the mainland.
Have a great saturday!

Winter Dream
A few days ago i finally managed to produce some shots that i have planned for quite some time. The last 2 years the conditions have never been the way i wanted it to be. Either the aurora was in the wrong place or it was missing completely. This location is also a full moon place. Normally i dislike shooting under a full moon, but this particular shot needed a bright and defined landscape. Finally i can put "check" next to this previsualized shot.
I also did a big fat panorama that turned out interesting...posting that later..
Take care!

Late For Work
Shot last week when the sky exploded on my way to work. Normally i never carry my gear with me...i`m more of a "plan-everything-down-to-the-smallest-detail"- kinda guy...But im glad the gear was in the car on this particular morning...

A River Runs Through it...
This is a shot with a low "wow-factor" i think... Its good to post those shots as well.
I remember this shot quite well. It was taken on a scouting trip where i was trying to find suitable locations for Aurorashots. Didnt find anything good, but at one point the whole mountain in the background caught fire.
Take care!

Holy Light
I love exploring alpine mountains, looking for shapes, lines and other things i can use to catch the viewers interest. This one is shot under the "Holy Mountain". This type of light only happens for a short period every year. Finally i got the timing right.. The snow had exactly the textures i look for. So many lines and shapes to shoot...
And on the sky the moon and jupiter lines up nicely. A fond memory for sure...

Frozen Flow
This was the goal for the expedition on sunday. I had calculated with a freeflowing waterfall so i was kinda bummed when i realized that the entire waterfall was frozen. There was however this section with crystal clear ice that did exactly what i had planned. Here i am positioned really low, on my stomach on the ice to get the perspective i was after.
On this trip i had the pleasure of being followed by a journalist doing a feature on me in a local newspaper. He couldnt have timed it better...
Hope you like it...

Into Space
I`m almost too tired to post this. Since saturday i have been more or less constantly chasing the aurora borealis. For those of you that didnt know....there was quite a lightshow going on...
Anyway, this is last night when the lights were exploding like crazy. I hiked for almost 2 hours through the snow to get to this spot. Its located under a mountainrange, deep into the wilderness. Lightpollution doesnt exist in this place. I know some disagrees, but putting some effort behind the shots makes them a lot more special...imho...
Techspecs: canon 5d, 16mm, f3.2, iso 1600, 12 secs
Take care friends! I have too many shots from these nights, so you will probably see lots over the coming months..

Cracking Morning
This one is from a couple of weeks back. This morning was particularly nice. The clouds hanging over the horizon was so-called nacreous clouds or "mother of pearls" as they are also called. Really something to see... On this shot however, they are so far away that they dont do anything for the shot. This one is all about the close foreground and the magical arctic light.
I used a Lee 0.9 grad to try to balance the light. No polarizer..
The next couple of weeks will be interesting. Have some pretty cool plans...Hope to have something postable to show you along the way...
Take care folks!

Helligtinden
The norwegian name of this mountain means "The Holy Mountain"...not quite sure why, but i think it has something to do with sami traditions or something.
Anyway, on the last day of 2011 i explored this mountain quite a bit. Snowy mountainscenes remains my favourite subject. Shooting sastrugi high up in the mountains..nothing really beats it.
The sun is below the horizon constantly this time of year, but the light is just breathtaking. I was treated to 5-6 hours of wonderful light this day. My most productive and amazing session to date...
This is a single exposure. I used a Lee Soft 0.9 Grad to balance the light. Shot at 16mm with the 16-35mm...
Have a wonderful weekend!

Last Light
This one is shot just a few hours ago. Literally the last light of 2011. I had an amazing day exploring a mountain called Helligtinden. In plain english, The Holy Mountain. I think i set a new record in keepers today...the light was crazy magical. I managed to pull off some shots that i have had in mind for a very long time.
This shot was the first random shot i processed from today. Not the best from today, but not the worst either..
I wish each and every one of you a happy new year!

Loud Whisper
This was a pretty cool evening, literally. I put the climbing skins on my skis and started the long climb towards the peak. As i left the forest i quickly became aware of the wind. It was furious! It came right down the mountain with full force...straight in my face. I struggled for about an hour climbing with a damn hurricane in my face.
I reached the area i had in mind. Despite a clear blue sky, snow was everywhere. The whole mountain was a white monster. Finally!! I knew that i had the chance...finally i had the chance to get the wintershot of my dreams. I spent a few hours on the mountain looking for compositions and openings with regards to the wind. I promise you..this was NOT an easy shot.
This is my favourite from the trip. I managed to get the sweeping snow just as i wanted it. The location is stunning, with a fantastic view and the light was magical.... more »

Nightshooter
The night before i shot this we finally got snow. And i dont mean 5 cm...we got 50-60cm in one big portion. While i was shuffling snow like an idiot in the morning, all i could think of was where i was gonna shoot in the evening. It`s dark when i leave for work and it`s just as dark when i get home from work. This means i`m stuck with nightshooting at the moment.
I spend large portions of the day trying to figure out where to shoot. I decided to visit a remote spruceforest. I wanted to shoot large sprucetrees covered in snow...When i put on my skis in the evening i was feeling quite confident. My fear of the dark was not gonna ruin this evening. When i turned on my headlamp my confidence got bruised... The headlamp had been turned on in my pocket for god knows how long. The light was so weak it was like i had a candlelight attached to my forehead...
I tried to... more »

The Pool
This an old one...and one of my own favourites. The story behind it is kinda funny:
On this night i had been wandering around in complete darkness for a couple of hours...My headlamp was weak, the batteries to my camera were slowly fading away, the temperatures were around -20°C and i was quite nervous because of some weird noises. Me and my skiis went down to this spot. This is the place were i really had planned to take an awardwinning, groundbreaking and crazy shot of the aurora. Not really....but at least i had a clever plan...You see that black pool? Well...my not so clever plan was to jump into that pool with my waders. I was actually wearing my waders this whole night. Glad i didnt run into someone in the dark...Jumping into that pool...the thing is...i have no idea how deep that pool is. On the right side there is a massive waterfall coming directly down into this ... more »

Midnight Greens
This is Eggum in Lofoten. A really good spot to see the midnight sun. Still, this is not one of my favourite places in Lofoten. Not much to work with in terms of foregrounds...
I had to be really careful when i shot this. It was so slippery..took me 5 minutes to walk 20 meters on this slippery green stuff...

Electric Mist
Last night i processed the ones i liked most from yesterdays amazing foggy conditions. This whole scene was glowing. Mist was filling the air and fogging up the lens as well, but it did add to the mood i think... This is just minutes before the sun went down..
Curious to know your feelings about this one..

Lofoten Rocks
Lofoten surely rocks... This is one of the best spots on the islands. Utakleiv Beach...
This was a wet and wild afternoon. The rain was pouring down, but for a few moments the sun would peek through and throw some colour over the scene. Crushed my polarizer right before this one (still blaming Antony Spencer for that one)..
Used a borrowed polarizer and Lee 0.9 grad for this one.
Cheers!

So what is your preferred way to display your work? Framed with matte and glass? Acrylic board? Canvas? Aluminium with no frame? Foamboard with or without framing?
On friday i opened an exhibition displaying 12 pretty large images. All printed on aluminiumplates. Personally i think it looks stunning when displayed like that, with no frames. But it had me thinking, what does others feel about this?
btw, i found this image of the opening...crappy quality though...im the guy with the shirt :-) Small place, but still...
